@toyota420xp I hear ya. Depreciation will be steep I bet. Honestly, you can't go wrong with getting a Lexus LS460. They are reliable, comfy, well engineered, well equipped cars, and check all three boxes as for interior quality: appropriate feeling materials such as plastic quality, a feeling of heft and substance, and build quality.
@PAPO9609 The haters used to rip on Lexus because it was Toyota, but now Lexus is one of the most respected names in quality and refinement on the luxury market. Give Hyundai a chance. Everybody starts out small and ignored.
@airtouch01 The S-class interior looks pretty good actually, and build quality is good. Lexus LS is more traditional with more buttons than controller knobs and a gated shifter instead of a column mounted shifter.
@1bentley4ever Yeah Mercs have very heavy and solid sounding doors.. Too bad S-class interior didn't get as much attention to it as the doors did from resource department Mercedes-Benz lol
@airtouch01 I have not sat in a new S-class, so I wouldn't know. The interior of the LS is definitely not skimping in the nice stitched leather and high quality cloth surfaces department.
@airtouch01 Yes, the LS460 still has the Equus on the refinement, but so does the S-class. But little touches like the thud the doors make when they open and close is undeniably a good trait taken from Mercedes-Benz.. This Equus feels very solid.
@markmarshall39 Not your style? It doesn't have enough presence in my opinion. Mercedes, Jaguar and Rolls are the only companies who can really pull off the hood ornament thing.
if it would have Mercedes sign on it and a little different interior , it would sell better than the actual S-class becouse looks better and most importantly is Imposing, massive "respectful appearance
@aaroxbeck That's exactly what I was thinking yesterday. It's a hark back to good old fashioned American and German luxury cars. I love the look of this car. More special than a Lexus LS460.
@fixdeluxe1 As eco-friendly goes, it uses a V8 instead of a V12, but if you want noticeably eco big car, get a BMW 7-series or Merc S-klasse. This car is DEFINITELY my style.
@biyorkman No design is original. All designs borrow from eachother, except for the Germans. This is a bit of Lexus LS, a bit of Merc S-Klasse, and a bit of Buick LaCrosse too.
@GrahamCrackers94 I hear you there, it's a bit blingy for an Asian luxury car. But I think it'll suit the American luxury car buyer. Americans become open minded about new luxury badges. Lexus was just Toyota back in 1989, but now Americans mention Lexus in rap songs like they do Mercedes; as the car of aspirations.
That car's gonna beat Lexux and Bmw as time goes on.. Cheaper price, Good quality, and the same luxury as well.. If only i had the money, i would go for it!!
An ultra-luxury saloon from Hyundai, who would have ever thought it back in the 90's?!! LoL....this car is among the most beautiful out there by far...it doesn't surpass my all time favorite "eye-candy" of a car, the LS 600, but it comes close!
O, and BTW, I've been trying to figure out what it looks like...to me, an Infiniti G37 sedan mixed with a little Lexus and some Buick...nonetheless, it's fabulous!
@Michael3752 I would have never thought so. But I bet you love the bug-eye style headlights on the LS600hl. I see it as a big Genesis with more chrome, wider, fancier lights, and a rear shoulder or hip line like a Buick Lacrosse. More luxurious than an LS. My favorite sedan is still the Bentley Flying Spur though; it is a lot like the Equus, but a bit less balloony. I dream and aspire to realistically one day own the Flying Spur.
@1bentley4ever Yep, that's one of the many things I love about the LS...it's particularly seducing with the right wheels to boot! Check your messages to find a link to a picture of the most gorgeous car in the world, lol
@corvette4554 Well they do have a more luxurious limo version in South Korea where the car is sold. The limo version of the Equus VS460 is called the VL500, but is still the same height, and unfortunately no suicide doors. But the Vl500 has a 5.0 V8, and a bullet proof version of the Equus us also offered, with a 5.5 V8. BTW, for all intensive purposes, suicide doors are considered a "coach doors"
@caddyman07 Because the North American version didn't exist in early January 2010 for show. It was early April when the N. American version was released.
I can agree with you, but it DOES give the car that Korean market feel to it, like many Asian-spec cars have, except for the Toyota Century. It looks too much like the hood ornaments on those Chinese knockoffs of Rolls-Royces.
They used to be the thing, here in America, of course. I would hope that the American model would come without it. I would bet many would not buy one because of it. But then, . . . . who knows. . . maybe people would, and the hood ornament would make a come back! :-)
I certainly hope the hood ornament makes a come back, but it has to be a distinctive hood ornament. I would have the hood ornament on this Equus, because it is a traditional luxury car in that it is big, fancy, lots of chrome, and cool lights, and a hood ornament takes this car back to the days of 1950s Cadillacs and Buicks. That's why, on a particular car like this, the hood ornament suits it well, it's not like an Audi A8 or BMW 7-series.
And I can't wait to do the same. LOL Might be awesome. I wish Hyundai the best luck. It's, indeed, a company which learned lessons and currently build quite fine automobiles. If Equus becomes a brand, Lexus might well watch it out... LOL
It WILL be awesome, well worth the wait. Lexus NEEDS to watch out, because of not just the Genesis, but other cars to come. But more importantly, Honda and Toyota BETTER watch out for the new 2011 Hyundai Sonata when it comes to selling 4 cylinder Accords and Camrys. People nowadays want good looking cars, but they also want value over the brand prestige that you pay for with Honda. Honda has become a elitist nowadays, and Acura is not doing well. Honda is starting to become a ripoff in price.
I am American and I will explain to you. Acura is marketed as the bold, sporty, yuppie (upper middle class people who play squash and tennis and have ski racks on their cars) car with an emphasis on refinement. Acura is like a Japanese Audi. Lexus is refinement, tech and comfort, like Mercedes. They are redesigned Hondas. The RDX is a luxury AWD CR-V, the TSX a Euro Honda Accord, and the flagship RL a rebadged Honda Legend. Most of them are rebadged Hondas. Their tech is outdated and crunchy.
Over engineered sounds more appropriate. Mercedes pays attention to the details on their smaller cheaper cars. Not everybody spends six years developing a compact model. Lexus never spent that much time developing the ES350. I hear about those features. Sounds like a little ingot. My sister is set on loving Bimmers after she got her 328i, and she actually likes the looks of the new C-class. I do too, but I also like the looks of the E. SLS AMG looks awesome. How high quality are Merc interiors?
I agree with you on Genesis customers, I can genuinely say that I would have a Genesis over any Buick, Cadillac, and Chrysler every day of the week. People who buy the German cars like badge prestige, and that's why they spend more than Lexus owners on their cars. I would have a Lexus ES350, a Genesis 4.6, a BMW 335i Convertible, a Merc S550 Sport and a Bentley Continental Flying Spur.
I admit it is Buick Lacrosse-like to a subjective perspective, but I love this car. The interior is beautiful and top notch. What I want is an S550, black on black, AMG sport pkg, and dual panorama sunroof, with all other options. The nice thing is that I may be able to buy a Genesis if it doesn't retain too much value a few years down the road. Options are so much for Mercs you are spending bucket loads buying new, better off going for a preowned model.
@jvjobi I guess it's then relative by a case-by-case basis. My sister had a Corolla, and it broke down and cut out all the time. Mercs are soooo expensive to fix. A guy I know took his 1999 ML320 into a Merc shop, and it was $2000 for an air con recharge. Mercs are coming back, and I do like the new E-class sedan and the refreshed S-class, especially the S400 Hybrid. 30mpg in a full size Merc sedan, doesn't get much better.
I'm glad you liked it. I TOTALLY agree with you. it makes the Lexus LS460 and the BMW 7-series look a bit frumpy. I would be in heaven if I owned one. It will probably be a little less than an LS460 when it comes out. This is my dream big sedan.
