@victorhbji If he sucked i dont think Roger Waters would have employed him..Waters is very demanding from what i have read..
And other people that the guitarist has worked with include Eric Clapton..so in my opinion the guitarist is extremely talented..actually both guitarists are..
The reason why Dark Side of the Moon is the masterpiece that it is is because all of the members of Pink Floyd worked together to write and record the music. I believe that Waters, Mason, Wright and Gilmour are equally talented in their own ways. I don't like the Wall as much as Dark Side because I feel like it is Waters' masterpiece, not Floyd's (don't get me wrong, it is still an amazing album). That's just my opinion, though.
Roger Waters was the musical genius, Gilmour the musician. Don't confuse the ability to play with the ability to create or compose music. Waters was the composer, the one with the ideas, Gilmour was the one that could play the hell out of them. Waters was always the better showman too, so of course his show will always be more entertaining, not necessarily better musically or more true to the studio version. And stop arguing over who is better, they're both far superior to any of you.
You guys are idiots. Gilmour's Gdansk live solo alone beats out this entire Roger Water's version version of "Time." I love Pink Floyd to death, but let's face it....Gilmour is a far more talented musician and sounds 10X better live. Water's voice is weak here.
@CitizenKANE2277 Maybe your right in some aspect Gilmour is a better musician. He's one of the best guitar players in the world, but Waters is a musical genius. Gilmour doesn't even come close..
"Pasé una gran parte de mi vida, hasta los 28 años, esperando que mi vida comenzara. Pensé que en cierto punto, me convertiría de un capullo en una mariposa, que mi verdadera vida podría empezar. Si tuviera que vivir de nuevo esa etapa de mi vida, preferiría vivir el lapso entre los 18 y 28 años sabiendo que sería así, que nada ocurriría repentinamente, que el tiempo pasa, que eres lo que eres, y que haces lo que haces."
@TrueWarrior1991 You did comment, and the fact that you said you didnt, and did, makes YOU a joke. BTW Doyles solo was mazing!! And that Was a comment.
@marcusdolby1 Have You got a problem to me man ? I mean that Doyles solo don't even compare to Gilmour's one. And yes, I didn't comment that in my previous post, because if I really want to do this, I had to use damnations but I didn't ... for example in 3:38-3:40 what tha fu** is that ? Pink Floyd Time or Yngwie Malmsteen ? I play guitar for 12 years man, don't even try to instruct me what is ok and what is not. Time is not a "place" for playing solo or whatever guitar this way...
@TrueWarrior1991 Well, I have been playing for 30 years but that means nothing. Gilmores solo was done in the studio and this was live. You just cant compare the 2. I think comparing Doyles solo to Malmsteen is a stretch. Roger hired great musicians and I saw this tour in Charlotte NC and then saw what Gilmore liked to call Pink Floyd......NO comparison Waters just put on a better show, get over it.
@marcusdolby1 If you are looking only for "show" in the music then... And I compare Gilmour's live version of Time (solo), not studio of course. Saying about Malmsteen I mean only the part in 3:38. Waters makes better lyrics, Gilmour makes better music and only both of them together are the best, they are Pink Floyd. And only the 4 of Pink Floyd should do their own music, no one other. This is my last word. Cheers.
I find it funny how you always here the negative complaints about the guitar player, and his vocals... "oh that's not david gilmour"... No one seems to complain that it's not Nick mason playing the rototom intro, or richard Wright singing the chorus and playing the keyboards.. Richard Wright has just as many song writing credits, and was just as important to the pink floyd sound as Gilmour... Give all the guitar player bashing a break... this is a great rendition!
Maybe he aspires to being Jimi Hendrix, he strings his guitar the same way. I think they are a great live act. Roger Waters is the Genius behing the music. If you want it to sound like the original album, listen to the original album!! Live music is open to interpritation and allows for artistic Freedom.
@babyjo21166 he spun it TOO much though. Nothing has to be the same, but at around the 3:36 mark where he does his little hendrix impersonation... I don't know, he just murdered it for me.
But whatever, he's still a great guitarist, and its still a great song.
@babyjo21166 I wouldnt say he sounds like Gilmour at all but I would say that he made that solo his own and did do it justice - especially that sweeeeet note at 3:35
that guitarrist sucks !!!! HORRIBLE !!!
