They growl, because they think the meat is fresh and is prey like a caught animal. It doesn't mean that they're pissed. I'd rather have a cat that's eating as close as possible to its natural diet, in its natural habitat, than a cat who never growls and is merely satisfied by dried kibbles, which have very little real meat in them.
Cute kitty. My calico caught a bat once and ate it. I'm glad you posted this because now I know what a Savannah is but at least I can see one due to your video. :)
Lol. That's amusing, I rescued a kitten. and he did that for a few weeks when I first introduced solid foods. He did the same thing he is doing in this video.
He grew out of it with a little help from my uncle breaking him of it. I should have recorded it, we all thought it was funny because of the sound he was making.
Hehe, I can't tell you how many crazies have warned me about the "dangers" of raw feeding (I started my two dogs in March of this year). I hope I can get the cats on board, too, but they're proving to be difficult. I feed them higher-end cat food, but it's still crap compared to raw.
He looks like he is really enjoying his dinner! Do you buy your whole prey locally or do you order online? I want to get my cat switched over to whole prey.
At the 45 second mark, it's Chompers with a mean right hook!. Cool. Film him eating in your backyard with plants around him to make it look like a wildlife documentary. Find online some sounds of lions, tigers, or jaguars growling or hissing, and put those sounds on your video to make it sound like Chompers is a big cat. Nice video.
Well, I feed all of our cats either raw meaty bones and/or whole prey. While its not always the prettiest or most 'convenient' diet in the world, it is the most healthful. Just be wary of giving tuna, not only is it dreadfully high in mercury, but it tends to leech vit B, which, in the long run is deadly. No more then 2oz per week is advisable. Also, some cats whom are prone to urinary tract infection are sometimes irritated by fish.
If you have editing software, increase the bass on the audio track and it'll sound like a lion or a tiger. He is, after all, a small tiger his own self. Love the video. Cool.
Here is one more point that I feel is important... Cats and dogs are VERY easy to train to eat in crates, or other feeding "stations." This makes natural feeding easy to clean up after. Even apartment dwellers can feed a raw diet!! If you notice in my video of the cat eating the rat, as soon as he throws the rat off of the towel, he brings it right back. ANY cat can be trained to do this. After they are done eating, just pop the towel in the wash with a bit of bleach, and all is clean. ;-)
Hes a savannah. Generally I leave him alone and just let him eat in peace. I had someone ask me if raw feeding makes cats vicious(dangerous), so this video was to show him that cats CAN be possessive over their food, but they arent going to flat out attack you or your other cats if they are disturbed. A little warning growl and slap is about as "vicious" as your average cat will get.

LOL, that was too funny! I've heard other folks talk about how their cats make sounds when eating but my little boy, nor my girl, make a a sound.
