  • Correction.. "Federal Signal Model 7T"

  • Comment removed

  • It does sound like an STL-10. Federal Signal`s been making model 7s and 2001s for a long time. They just put up a federal signal 2001-130 by my neighborhood. Never heard it before. I`ll know when they test them in a few weeks. It is located 3 miles N of Canyon, about 50 yards north of the south entrence of Spring Lake. I wish they put up a modular

  • @goldcat202 They will be testing them tomorrow (5-26-2011) @ 11:30 AM. If the wind stays down a bit, we are going to go try to get another video of one. Don't know which one though.

  • @goldcat202 SD-10, sorry.

  • @goldcat202 SD 10, i meant

  • My town (Ballston Spa, NY) is full of model 5ts. There is one on top of the fire station then a few miles away there is another one on top of a police station. Those are the only 2 I spotted as this IS a small town.

  • its a 7T

  • Nice ALL CLEAR TONE/Noon Tone!!!!

  • This siren reminds me of a model 7T out in LaPorte IN. The siren in LaPorte looks exactly like this, but the paint on ours is a little more faded.

  • @mohkfry Don't know how old this one is. Really just found it by accident. Looks like it has a lot of life left in it.

  • @kdksiren It probably does have life still in it. Sounds really healthy. I would say about 40 years if fully maintained.

  • @mohkfry That's the one at Austenal, on the corner of Boyd and East Lincolnway (Hwy 2), right? That's the oldest one in LaPorte - installed circa 1982. The rest of them are various models of the Federal Signals (and the new T-128 sirens are starting to pop up, such as the ones by Craven Pond, and more recently, the one at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Indiana 39. 2T22 sirens once stood at both locations.

  • @ulij20 What 2T22's? Were there more than 2? I know of the 2 along US20. The one at SR 39 was replaced because of issues with the brushes. And the one by the Deli store is still there (to my knowledge). Yes, that is the 7T I was talking about.

  • @mohkfry There were once two 2T22 sirens within the city limits. One of them was at Craven Pond until 1996, when it was replaced by one a Federal 2001 model. That one was apparently defective, for it was replaced as well, by the new T-128 siren). As for the other 2T22 siren, it was at the McClung Road landfill. It petered out in the summer of 1997 and was replaced in December of the same year, by a Federal 2001 - as far as I know, that one is still there.

  • @ulij20 So the one that was replaced in '97 was is the one at the Deli store?

  • @mohkfry The siren at the landfill can't be seen very well from the road, since it's behind lots of trees, so I'm not sure if the Federal 2001 there has been replaced - I'm thinking probably not.

As for the two 2T22 sirens along US20, I'm wondering if they were the same sirens that used to be in the same locations I mentioned earlier, since I didn't think they still made that model in the late 1990s (which is when they were installed, I think).

  • @ulij20 Is the 2T22 at the deli store still there? The one at IN SR 39 was replaced only recently, around January 15, 2011, according to what amtrak3501 said. I pass through LaPorte county almost every weekend, so I see a lot of the older sirens there. And I was really surprised to see a T-128 there, but at the same time i knew that siren was going to call it quits sometime soon. The last test of that siren i was at, it couldnt even hold a steady pitch. Alert sounded just like the attack signal.

  • i have one of these half a block from my house.....very loud....scares the sh*t outta me

  • yeah this a model 7 at my FD we have a mod 5, sounds nothing like it

  • is possible that I hear an STL- 10 too and nice catch it's a 7t i think nice catch

  • @firepipernickb I don't think so. The nearest siren is several miles away. This one is kinda out by itself.

  • @kdksiren

When sirens like this sound in alert for 3+ minutes, you know there's either a tornado warning, severe thunderstorm warning, or an incoming tornado. After all, Texas is Tornado Alley, so this could be a tornado warning, or a severe thunderstorm warning. But judging by the tilt on the tree limbs on the small tree your dad was near for this video, this was most likely a tornado warning.

  • @kurtdog119 This was just a monthly test of the entire system. It is done the last Friday of the month at 11:30 AM. If it had been a real warning, the EMS would have sounded them for 5 minutes. There are almost 90 sirens connected to the Amarillo operations center.

  • I'm Sure It's A Federal Model 7 T I Agree

  • model 7t

  • Comment removed

  • Likely a 7T, it's got a faster windup.

  • doesnt sound to bad at all

  • Sounds like a model 7T you can see the two rows of ports.

  • I tihkn I found a model 2/5/7 in Hutchinson, Kansas, in Carey Park. Unfortunatley, im never around to hear it.

  • 5BT

  • I never really knew about this siren madel. Thanks for posting! It sounds just like an SD-10 or a Federal Model 2T.

  • That seems to be a FS Model 5T siren

  • nice 7T!!

  • That is a model 7T because of the buzzing sound in the tone it makes it a model 7T

  • hhhhmmm has to be a model 7 because looks taller than a model 5.

  • Nice video

  • Great video as always! 5 stars for you =)

  • Hey, awesome video. Video quality was real good and so was the sound. Don't see many 5/7Ts around there.

  • Great video guys. As far as I know, there was never a 5T. This is a 7T, which Federal later relabeled and branded the 5BT. Either name is correct. They are directly related to the SD-10.

  • Thanks for the info! It does sound like a SD-10 or even the Banshee that is here. Either way, It maybe old but it still work good.

  • You can tell it's a 7T - the windup is very fast for a 5 and the fact that it sounds like it's dual tone and you can see the chopper assembly is, means it's a T.

  • Very nice healthy sounding 5T/7T.

  • thats deff a 7T cuz the 5T at my firehall sounds alot lower pitched than that

  • Great sounding Model 5T/7T! :)

  • nice healthy sounding 5T/7T.

  • Great video! The wind up sounds a bit too fast for a 5T, so this might be a 7T.

  • The motor start up is faster. It might be a 7T.

Very good video, and great job zooming in on the chopper, as it starts up.

  • Wish there was an easy way to tell. It does start fast though. KDK

  • Only way to tell is to pop off the siren casing, and look at the motor tag, haha.

Whatever it is, it's still an awesome video.

  • We were wondering if they use the same housing? We went up and looked at the boxes and up and the siren and couldn't find a thing.

  • Yes, the 5 and the 7 (and their dual toned versions) use the same housing, usually. I've seen a 7, and a 5, in person. They both look the same, from a general viewpoint.

  • That's a Model 5T. Not a Model 5. Other then that, great recording!

  • Thanks Dan. Whats the difference? KDK

  • To explain for Dan:

A 5T is dual toned, a Model 5 is single toned. Archon2561 has a video of a "true" Model 5.

  • Thanks. It does sound dual tone. We were pretty close and that thing is loud. Great sounding siren. This is the first one we have seen in person.

  • Yeah, it sounds like a P-15. 9/12 port siren. Love the video :D
