  • I have cancer and I have gotten many surgeries- they are not bad.. As long as your asleep

  • @annaandhillary This was my first surgery so I wasn't sure what to expect. They had actually offered to have me awake for it but I turned that down. Now I've gotten to the point where I'm like "Oh ok it's winter. Time for me to hurt myself some stupid way so that I get another surgery over Spring Break." I guess like you I'm used to it now which is a bit sad because no one should have to be "used to" constant surgical procedures =\ Best of luck with all that you're going through

  • what was the surgery for?

  • A lateral release is pretty much the worst surgery you can get. You're pretty much cutting healthy ligaments and making the knee unstable. Why do you think most people need follow up surgery afterwards?

Immobilizers are also terrible. All they do is make scar tissue build up and make you lose range of motion. My first surgery was a disaster because of this. For the second (a much bigger surgery) I had no brace and full range of motion right away.

  • @x13supernova13x I had three surgeries (fortunately one was only day surgery) and I must say, you're very brave! I liked how you were laughing when getting your IV; I think laughter takes the pain away! Also, I don't think you look bad when you woke up; the last major surgery I had was when I was 17 and I didn't wake up until about four hours after I was brought to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.

  • My doc said I might need knee surgery. Not looking forward to it.

  • you're so cute, even in hospital, wow <3

  • You have amazing parents. They do love you very much. Anybody that watches this video can tell. Lucky girl!

  • i laugh when i get needles too..

  • I had an arthroscopy done and they also put a "staple" (which is 2 screws and a plate connected to the screws) into my growth plate on December 8th of last year. Im having the staple removed on the 13th of February.

  • heyy so how long were you on crutches afterwards? hows the pain now? like today? did you get an immobilizer? thanks(:

  • @synchrolilie I was on crutches for about 2 weeks after this surgery but my doctor had wanted me to move quickly and that was actually too slow for him. I did have an immobilizer after and then I was switched to a hinged knee brace which they sent me to a prosthesis center for. Because of the atrophy and loss of range of motion I still get a lot of pain. Some of which is the result of bone grinding on bone but I'm going to be getting something done for that. It really shouldn't be too bad.

  • @x13supernova13x Did ur orthopedic/doctor discuss like shot injections??????

  • What kind of surgery is this

  • @bigcloud950 It says in the description. It was a lateral release done on my left knee.

  • @x13supernova13x oh well i dident no what arthoscopic ment so i just asked thanks for replying

  • @bigcloud950 Sorry I didn't know what exactly you wanted to know from that. It's a minimally invasive surgery with cameras and tools inserted though smaller incisions rather than opening it all the way up. The biggest scar I got from this was maybe 2 inches or so whereas the scar from my second surgery where they had to open me up to get everything done is about 6 inches and spans my whole knee.

  • @x13supernova13x owwww that sounds painful lol ummmm how old are you again?

  • @bigcloud950 I'll be 17 soon. When this first surgery took place I was 15

  • @x13supernova13x oh thats cool im 16 2 :)

  • "Theres a kid screaming bloody murder, this is not funny or cute!" HAHA if that happens the day i have my knee surgery, i'm gonna be saying the same thing, lol

  • hahaha i made them put me to sleep first and then put the iv in when i tore my miniscus and had to get surgery..... i hate needles, i only accept getting blood taken cuz of my disease

  • Why didn't you keep up with the rehab?

  • how long wer eu in the hospital for ?

  • If I were them I would have allowed have allowed you to bring you favorite stuffed animal into the operating room .I've always been allowed to bring my stuffed animal into the operating room They took my stuffed animal away from me after I was put to sleep .I don't think it's right that they took your stuffed animal away from you anything that brings comfort to a child shouldn't be denied .I am sorry you had to go through that horrible operation.

  • ur brave to undergo surgery, I would do it too, but be scared

  • i had this surgery, and it hurt so bad! i hope i NEVER have to have it again. i just left therapy because my therapist said it wasnt helping, i gained the strength back but my pain is still very consistent.

  • @toriluvsmakeup04 This surgery didn't help me enough because I just got another one over spring break and then had to get a manipulation after that just last week. I've been in and out of physical therapy since 2008 and as of right now the most I can bend my knee is 95 degrees with extreme pain 3 months post op. My insurance won't cover any more pt so yesterday was my last day. I still have lots of pain and swelling and I severely lack muscle. Best of luck because I wouldn't wish this on anyone!

  • @danyelleh003

    (part 2)

I didn't work my butt off with the therapy and so I never gained back the muscle that I lost laying on the couch and because I'm incapable of supporting my own weight I got hurt again.

As long as you keep up with your PT religiously afterwards you should be back to normal much faster than me because here I am nearly a year later and with one leg significantly, visibly skinnier than the other. Learn from my experience please if you do choose to get the surgery.

  • @danyelleh003

Everything about the surgery went great. I opted to be knocked out rather than have an epidural. In post-op they gave me meds for the pain and I was prescribed painkillers for home (not the strong stuff unfortunately but enough to get by) After the surgery I spent a full week on the couch not wanting to move. In total I was on crutches for about two weeks after that. Then I did physical therapy. If you opt for surgery I HIGHLY recommend that you do ALL your exercises without ques.

  • @x13supernova13x I didn't even have the option of having an epidural, I was just knocked out. Sometimes I think if I'd had that option I might have taken it because it might have been cool to have been awake and watching, but on the other hand I'm pretty terrified of needles and probably would have just chosen to have a small needle in my hand for the IV than a large needle in my back for an epidural, haha.

  • How painful was your LR? My orthopedic surgeon and physical therapist are recommending this for me but I have heard so many horror stories. How long before you were back to normal?

  • I had surgery too... Hope you get better !!!!!!
