Brava ! Bravo ! One of my favourite films. I hope that there are DVDs available to purchase. At the time that I acquired my copy, I found none in music stores and only one on-line. I was so moved by the Mahler excerpt at the end that I posted a video with the complete van Dam recording + several images from the film.

I have never seen this film. It's a 1988 French film and in '88 I was only 8 and did not see foreign films LOL I'm 30 now and love opera. Obviously the actress is being dubbed by a soprano's pre-recorded voice, however I love the way the soprano is singing Sempre Libera. I thought that was a lovely scene and would love to see the movie. I'll see if I can order it on Netflix. Thanks for posting

Lame story, bad acting, bad dialogue, bad actor direction, etc.

Just like Farinelli, etc. Why are the girls so pretty and the guys soooo ugly in these movies???

I remember liking this movie when it came out. lol naïve.

singing >> Great light soprano. Good light tenor, but he can't hide his american Rs, he makes rhythm errors in his second set of replies. Some of his notes in the duel are pretty dry.

The actress's mouth position does not correspond to the sounds we are hearing, and the breath is much too late, we hear the sound as she is still breathing in.
