@dave32228 I paid less than £10'000 back in '99 but I would hate to add up how much I've lavished on it over the last decade, but I don't regret any of it, I love my DeLorean :-)
The car look, sounds, and appears to have the performance I imagined but one thing I noticed is that the steering wheel does not appear to be back perfectly straight. What I mean is that even though you going straight the steering wheel appears as if your turning.
Has you rebuilt the engine or considered replacing? What would you consider
a viable engine if you had to replace? I don't have a mechanics background but just figured that maybe a viable unit could be a flat 4 from Subaru or a Wankel from Mazda. I'm considering purchasing one (DMC) - just curious.
@ingreat888 No power steering in the DeLorean, but my steering efforts are mostly because the roads are rubbish where I live with a lot of cars parked on the road side. The steering is a really nice weight in the DeLorean as you have the weight of engine hanging right out of the back.
@ingreat888 I've seen some people fit cruise control over in the USA, but in the UK we don't seem to go in for CC that much probably because we don't travel such great distances in our small country.
As for parts, almost everything is available, and parts are not too pricy for a fairly low production car, there are a lot of cross over parts for mechanical stuff, brakes from Ford/Jaguar, engine from Renault etc...
how tall are u ? i'm a big guy a little over 6-1 i ask you becuse your legs so close to stering wheel and if ever get my hands on one i dont think ill fit i john z delorean was 6-3 but im nearly 300 pounds
I'm 6'3 and quite thin, but the steering wheel is telescopic and adjustable up and down and there is alot of adjustment on the seats, I fit fine and find it very comfortable on long drives, I think the video angle doesn't do any favours.
I know many owners who are considerably larger than me who have no trouble living with their DeLoreans.
Best thing is to get a long to a car show and find a friendly owner who will let you sit in one and try it for size.
Oh wanna restore PRV Power, most PRV with K-Jetronic suffer under much too less fuel pressure because the fuel pressure regulators have a badly tired pressure regulator spring...put some shims under that internal regulator spring so the internal fuel pressure is back to 5,4 bars and your 2,8 PRV willcrank out 178 Hp without mod....
most people never measured PRV performance if engine is good, with too lean mixture its slow, if well maintained its as fast as a citroen SM!
@alexishoule121 You don't even know my age you periodblooddrinker. When I said that the cars i've mentioned earlier being rival to muscle cars, I damn mean the recent muscle cars; its soooo obvious. You do have an intellectual capacity of a mongoose. Go and suck your mum's balls and give your mum a blowjob.
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Sports Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree
ha ha, fair point, I suppose I spend money on it because I love this car too much :-) I've had other fasters cars in the past, but there's just somthing about the DeLorean.
I want the 5sp. But damn your lucky to have the Del, hey hows the seating and room inside seems like your a TALL guy? your knees are like so close to the under dash is it compfy? Looks like a Go Cart or something. I hope I get one, because I am determine it to be the next car I buy After my 96 Honda Accord. LOL
@Joefjc : John DeLorean himself was a pretty tall guy (over 6 feet), and the DMC-12 was designed with this in mind. Unless you're extremely tall (6'6" or more) you can fit. I'm 6'3" and am pretty comfortable in one. :)
yeah it's in pretty good shape, still 101 things to do as with any classic.
I had the interior retrimmed inleather about 2 years ago and it looks pretty sharp (although not original to the purist) and fortunatly the outside is in good nick too, still tweeking the engintrying to get it to run a little smoother, but all in all not to shabby :-)
Pretty good, I think the auto gearbox gets a bit too much stick, it's a nice agressive shifter when driven hard but equally nice crusing on the motorway. I have driven Auto's and Manual DeLoreans and love both but I could never part with my auto I love it too much :-)
Updated to the Volvo 760 metering head, the volvo varient of this engine, which does not have the CAT and Lamda system pushes 170bhp as apposed to the 130 in the Cat'd delorean version.
The DeLorean engine is the B28F version (F=Federal - emmision controls installed) the Volvo version was the B28E version (E=European i.e. no emmisions control).
So the addition of the volvo metering head, dizzy and control pressure regulator allows for a little more power.
nice car but come on put the steering wheel on properly!!!

Never seen one in an automatic. Very cool.
Do you think it is possible to replace the engine with a much larger one? Though I probably wouldn't unless it was already an auto to my taste.

because it's not on right, I took it off while I was doing some work and this was the 1st test drive, I've re-fitted it now and it's straight.
