  • The second one(Suvitunnelma-Summer sentiment) is composed by Viljami Niittykoski from Kaustinen. He was contemporary with Konsta Jylhä.

  • name of the songs ?

  • @TheBoza1234 Greetings from Tampere, Finland, Eu: first one is "Polka of (girl named) Elli". Second one is "Summer feelings"

Helena (ancient greek name)-> Elin (scandinavian form) or Elina (finnish form) -> Elli (kind of nickname)

  • Maria Kalaniemi has played this one in 90's and even later on. Please look at this link and its "associated" videos

  • Sure nice to here good old Finnish Music, being of Finnish heritage. Don't here enough of it.

  • yay finland!!! Suomi!!!!

  • Proud to be Finn! :) We have rich cultural heritage and history.

  • @peteliuz79 Yeah, this is very nice. This is one part of "Finnishness" that I can be happy about. (Too bad it's rather stagnant, but that's another story.) I saw this yesterday live in Järvenpää, where there was a dance revolution event, with dancers from a number of different local dance schools / activity groups present. I was there also, dancing Israeli folk dances (and also some dances from Yugoslavia, France, even Japan) with a small group led by dance teacher Jouni Pajunen.

  • can someone teach these dances to me

  • It looks great. It's a shame that young people "can't" like these dances. Nobody will believe them if they do.

I myself think it's beautiful. A hundred times better then the so called dancing you see in clubs these days.

  • hi do you know where I can find the music to the dances? or if you have them and if you could send them to me?

  • @km2941 I have them on my computer so I"ll send them to you

  • Kiitos, tack! There are few familys from Finland and Sweden, located in North eastern Ontario and North western Québec.

  • Very well done! I like the dansers and the nice music!

  • Very nice dance :), all nations should be proud of their traditions, 5+

  • I love how they weave around each other! :D

  • I enjoyed this so much. Both the music and the dancing are Beautiful. Thank you for sharing this video. Fran

  • The music sounds very close to Polish or Russian. I guess it is because they kind of share borders.

  • Finland and Russia share a border. Finland and Poland don't. =)

  • Also, the walz gives me a Godfather feeling :)

  • Hyvinhän tää menee!

Nice work, suvitunnelma really is a spot on Finnish traditional walz, and a very beautiful one too. Greetings from Finland, and thanks for posting.

  • Nice dances. Thank you. The polkka and also the some polkkas are in many ways similar to Czech an Moravian polka's but still the spirit is slihtly different. I'll try to persuade our Czech group in Paris to take Ellin polkka in our repertoir.

Two questions: 1) Do you have contact to anyone in Paris in Amsterdam or in Prague, who can dance these polkkas?

    2) Does anyone dance the famous Ievan polkka?

Anyway, habbeatle, thank you for posting.

  • What a beautiful dance and music, congratulations for the video. A greeting from Galicia, Noelia Fersan and Edelmiro007. 5*****

  • Suvitunnelma was played in the church at my wedding

  • What is the name of the song?

  • Which one?

Polka is "Ellin polkka" and the slow one is

    "Suvitunnelma"

  • What is the name of the song??

  • great music!

  • Too bad there's no video's on here of Kiikurit from the 80's and 90's...

  • I must say ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!!

  • Thanks for your compliment, very much appreciated!!

  • I really enjoyed these dances. My international dance group is learning several Finnish dances. Could you please tell me the names of these dances? Thank you.

  • Very glad you enjoyed these dances, the names of them are Ellin Polkka (Elli's Polkka) and Suvitunnelma (Summer Flair or Fling)

  • I am proud of the way you did everything.Nice sound and video. The way you moved with the music you were right on with each move. lookes so greaceful.

  • Your comments were much appreciated by the group when I relayed them at our practice, thank you!, though I usually prefer the more up tempo dances to me the second slower one really captures that sense of pathos and melancholy you could imagine existed around the time of Finland's independence after a number of years of bitter civil war, you still see it today in many older finns, gives me a nice connection to my maternal grandparents who came to Canada just after this time

  • interesting!

  • Very nice! Elegant!

  • thanks for the kind words, it was our first time performing them in public and we were a bit nervous as it was a full house but it seemed to go over well with everyone
