Better yet, don't use the bank at all for storing money. Unless you have a lot in a high interest account with a low yearly interest rate

@suracs Woah thank you very much for the comments! I agree with you on all of it actually! In NZ some banks do charge you fees if you're a student, which is annoying! My bank acount situation is a bit of a mess... yet again because I chose a silly bank! :)

@GuitarsRockandLife Wow, that sucks. Maybe time for a bank change! :) Or.... this could be a good opportunity to do some bargaining! Seriously, like contact other banks and find out the best deal they can do for you, then go back to your current bank and ask them if they can at least match it or you'll switch banks! You'll be surprised what benefits you can get; banks hate losing customers ;)

My other is a netbank saver account with high interest; that's my 'life savings' account and I rarely use it. I use it to save for bigger items; right now, it's my car money, once I've got that, It'll probably turn into epic holiday/house money! :)

And I agree, banks are very selfish and short-sighted. They're the ones who have screwed our economy over by lending money to people who simply can't afford it!

The multiple account thing is also a good idea. I've got 2 accounts. One is a low-interest, easy access account connected with my debit card. I don't leave much money in that account for security reasons; just what I need day to day.

You shouldn't have to pay account fees! You're a student! When I found our I was paying $6 a month for my account upkeep, I literally just went to the bank, said 'Hey, I'm a student. Why am I paying an account keeping fee?" and it got fixed straight away! :) and I don't pay money when I make a transaction either.

You are so right; real money ftw! I HATE it when I hear this stupid ad on the radio about some idiot who borrowed money with ease to take a holiday... worst.move.ever!!

@GuitarsRockandLife All good... there's a show over here called "Spicks and Specks" which is an homage to the Beegees song, and is like a game show filled with music trivia. If you can find it, online it's a good watch as he hosts the show :)
