  • PEOPLE. doing this on a RROD xbox 360 will not fix the problem.

This is to prevent RROD in the first place.

A re-flow of the solder joints on cpu, gpu, or HANA may be needed.

If you want to try this method, buy a freakin heat gun. most in-expensive way to fix virtually any RROD Xbox 360.

Like this comment for others to read.

  • ok i just replaced the xclamps with the uniclamp and i still have rrod e74 what the hell

  • i put my xbox in a mini fridge and played it like that. is that healthy?

  • this is so complicated,,, when i first got the RROD, i hit like 1000 times and it worked, now it dosnt work period -.-

  • This will not permanantly fix any problems. It will, however, prevent many from happening. Install this properly onto a working Xbox 360, and you should never have any problems ever again... EVER!

  • i Tried this and it didnt work...

  • Thanks... i still got 0102...

  • Going to try this tomorrow, got a xbox for free to keep but i have to fix it, if it doesnt work oh well i stil have mine

  • Can't understand why everyone is saying "its the xclamp! Its the xclamp!". In my test it was not the xclamp at all. I have a first gen xbox 360 and it finally failed. After researching various methods I decided to test it myself with an infared/laster thermometer. I found out the GPU heatsink is actually the thing over heating the xbox, not the xclamps. I bought a second gen gpu heatsink off of ebay, installed it and its been working for a month non stop. I also replaced the thermal paste.

  • @fallenangelsd

nobody said anywhere that the x clamps are overheating there just little bits of alluminium

The bga connections under the gpu fail as the gpu cooling is useless and the motherboard is flexing in the case

  • @fallenangelsd I totally agree with you! Almost everyone thinks that the X-Clamps are the flaw! They most defenitly are not! If it was the flaw, Microsoft would have fixed that problem a LONG time ago!!!

  • Hi! bought this kit last week and followed the instructions..The 1st attempt failed. I went through the instructions again, and missed the step where you needed to back the screws off a half turn or so. So on my 2nd attempt, I used a little more thermal paste (used Arctic Silver 5 instead of what came with the kit), and back the screws off. Now I didn't back them off a half turn, I went a 1/4 turn. I noticed when I went a half turn, that I was able to hear the washers when I shook the unit.

  • Nice job on the video!

  • nice video and easy to follow. and all the idiots complaining about the music, wise up

  • do you think its better to do this before it gets rrod becuse mine xbox360 is made in 2006 and i think it gonna get rrod soon soo maby its good to do this noww so it dosent get it at all?? what do you think?

  • I got two Xbox, an HDMI version in black and an older white one where both turned on from a cold state and had RRoD, where as prior they were working fine, and putting in long hours of use. After 14 hours or so, the white, older one power back on but once off again the RROD is back. I did open the HDMI and try reseating the heat sinks with new thermal paste...same old RROD problem. And it's been tested after sitting for awhile now.

  • Cool but complicated lol nice

  • @AgAMuscles59 Too much DIY for the repair, I like a simple replacement method to using the bad X Clamps in the first place, like replacing the screw in posts so they'd attach to the mobo traditionally, if possible

  • i have team executer repair kit 2 .. it does not do some of these steps...does it matter?

some of th thigns here are a bit advanced for me.

  • @TheRogueMonk

That kit copies the old "penny fix" and does more long term damage than good. You must secure the motherboard in a level position, not flex it with rubber pads.

  • ok, can somebody explian me smthing, i've bought the uniclamp, so do I still have to remove the Xclamps?

  • yes

  • @TudyCoolboy

Yes you MUST remove the x-clamps, thats the only way to get the heatsinks off. Just carefully follow the tutorial on our site for help.

  • Team Hybrid??? Weren't you guys on Robot Wars???

What is this a wind up or what?

0.75-0.8 mm are you joking...do you think I carry a bloody micrometer in my toolbox????

This has got to be the most overblown repair I've seen.

Enjoyed the animation but will someone please kill that screaming bitch....

  • @mountainmickful

lol, thanks for the comments. the .75-.8mm thing is easy and u dont need any micrometer. either use the old x-clamps in the homemade version, or buy our backplate (uniclamp) which now comes with thermal pads. Both are the correct thickness. And sanding can be skipped by using a step drill bit to entirely remove the 2 taller standoffs if your in a hurry. I can do the entire fix in 5-10 minutes.

  • @mountainmickful its also the most permanent, i have repaired a xenon with this method that refused a reflowstation fix. now i leave it on for hours and no red ring.

  • well i got the 0011 error thanks to your tutorial. any help on the torque specifications for the screws you said to use? because in case you didn't know the 0011 eorror is a fastening error for the screws and i think a lot of people have got this error thanks to this tutorial.......

  • @aragon2235 0011 is cpu overheating, check your shims, remove them on your cpu, reinstall heatsink, and make sure you're using thermal paste, should be fine then

  • this song has nothing to do with this. Lame.

  • @cymaddux31 no songs ever do idiot its just a song they liked.. what do u expect "hi ho hi ho its off to work we go" sung by the 7dwarfs?

  • @JmeCamo

Speak English. The song in this clip is TERRIBLE for the video.

  • Can someone help me, i did the x clamp fix now my xbox shows 3 red rings and then immedietly 2, and the fans stop working after that, i have checked too see if the motherboard is bent which it obviously is not.. help?

  • Thumbs up if this song is overused!

  • That was a darn good animation!

  • God bless the mure button

  • @maphantom whats the mure button lol

  • @theking8701 mute* lol

  • Very nice tutorial,Thanks!:P

  • like this if you think this song is overused and should die already.

  • this isnt right if microsoft makes the new xbox360 the same problem we should be able to get one for free and with a 5 year warranty

  • this isnt even necessary, microsoft should be sued!!!

  • this video made me dizzy, helpful though.

  • thumbs down just for that ANNOYING MUSIC

  • this fix is the best fix out there

however things to do before hand:

sand off metal standoffs(ms is dumb),reball(with lead solder),reflow

  • @axelgear666 Why do you need to reflow after you reball?!?! Lol, or are you talking about reflowing the ram and chipsets...

  • cool video

  • does it need to be rubber washers ???????? somone help plzz

  • I can fix your xbox please go to xbox360repair-parts(dot)webs(dot)com/sendin(dot)htm

  • read up on wilhelm's ttorial on ovenbaking.

use lead free rosin core flux (use flux remover) or non clean rosin core flux

  • i like this song

  • texasprosxmods use this fix its the best all credit goes to humboldt and wilhelm thanks guys

  • nice job guys good cgi love it what song mix is that i love it ??????

  • yo what program did you use to make this??

  • The 3D animation and modeling part was done with Cinema 4D, what I used to cut the video etc I cant remember but think it was something by Ulead.

I still got the source files on my PC if you need em for a project or so drop me an email to wilhelm (ät) xboxexperts (döt) com

  • If it doesn't work for you, there is tons of free help including live chat to help get through it. If the problem is southbridge related, you may need the new s/b plate kit which also is an easy fix to some e74's. If the kits don't work for you, send it back and we will send a refund in first 30 days.

  • x clamp bend board so bad for xbox

    the best fix is refolw

  • Fitted the Hybrid kit a few days ago after doing an oven reflow and my XBOX is working great. With a standard x-clamp fix it would last about 10-20 hrs of gaming time before going back to the old fault(no video). Also mounted my DVD drive out of the case in a HDDVD enclosure and replaced it with a 120mm Coolink silent fan. Hopefully no more problems, so far so good. Great X-clamp kit though, highly recommended.

  • Will this work for e74 error?

  • yes

  • Gamestop rips us off easily, i went in 2 days after to sell the bioshock i bought from and it was 2 days old, how much did i get? $28.75, only got one good deal selling games to them and that was because the guy was getting fired anyhow.....

  • @andersen781: The last thing you want it to do is red ring when they test it to see if it will work! Lolz good idea though

  • @conorman13: why not? they gave me like 99 cents for one of my games they sold for 10 bucks.

  • is there ways to tell if this will work before opening it i ready 94% fixable so how to tell if mine is not other 6% , plus i was thinking of putting a ihs from a amd cpu on it also . its about the same size as a 754 amd cpu i think it would work

  • @uofm49426: Hold down the sync and the eject key and press the eject key 4 times. you should get a 4 digit error code.

  • will try it next time :))

  • Great vid, worked flawless for me and hasnt broken again since (5 months ago) xD. If you dont want to buy the supplies needed or dont know where to get them, you can get them for free from amazon from a site called p2s. I earnt enough points for the supplies in 2 and a half weeks. You earn points by playing games, completing free offers and more. Just search "xbox rrod" to find the supplies.

More info on my channel, you can also see my unboxing proof vid xD

  • Once I did this it was fine for 2 days than it started freezing again (rrod symptom). After I heatgunned my board it was fine for 1 month till now. It hasnt frozen once since I heatgunned it.

  • some people dont know that they have to flatten the board back.

  • i tryed this and got 0102 any body help im open to any sugestions (not just buy PS3)

  • Try Heatgunning your board before you put it in the metal chasis.

  • Now this is awesome.

  • This is the best X-clamp fix. I left my xbox 360 on for 10 hours and I didn't freeze once.

  • why do we have to shim the heat sinks.. will this not elevate them higher.. thought we had to have the heat sinks clamped tight against gpu/cpu

  • this is the nerdiest thing ive ever seen on utube, an exact 3d replica of the inside of an xbox360. bravo.

  • gonna try it ...

  • great vid but fuck the music killed it i just muted it but still good vid

  • Huh, I have finished this fix about three hours ago and after some screw adjusting it works perfectly and i hope it will work in future. Now this is not an easy quick fix to do it requires a lot of time, nerves and preparation especially for the homemade version but it is the only real permanent fix because i have fixed another xbox before mine broke about three months ago and it still works. I hope you ppl are smart and wont try those penny or towel fixes because they'll break you xbox 4ever.

  • thats the point man when yur xbox has a hardware error like e71 or e68 ... the towel tricks causes e74 in the older models so if u need xbox repair and dont wanna spend 100$ cuz itsnot a general hardware failure then make it a GHF and they repair it for free

  • is it still working???please reply

  • yes it got back once the rrod but after readjusting the screws it works again just fine

  • Il try it in my elite.

  • i tried a method simular to this and it works better then all other method. it hasent fail on me like those other ones.

  • This is a really good Idea I started using this method after re flowing the motherboard and haven't had one warranty return yet.

  • Right i removed the x-clamps and put everything back together and then it just sounds like a train is going past and i get the left hand side of the xbox ring red? :S

    can anyone help?

  • u removed the x clamps and put everything back together? why wats the point of that. im not sure what u did BUT the 2 red lights on the left side of the Ring of Light means that the 360 is overheating. u probably didnt put the heatsinks right or the thermal compound isnt touching heatsinks cause u dont have enough.

again im not sure what u did. did u install ur own machine head screws? with washers?

Read the full text tutorial, dont just watch the video

  • it means that your have not adjusted the heatsinks right meaning that the cpu or gpu or both are overheating so there is nothing to reduce the heat try readjusting the heatsinks make sure they connect to the PUs

  • whats the song name...?

  • dreamscape

  • i did xclamp fix and i got error 0102. can u help me

  • that was actaully pretty cool but i did mine differently
