This film has been released in the states on DVD. It looks and sounds great, however the final 10 minutes are missing as on the VHS version. Be warned! Olive films is falsely advertising it as the full 104 minutes. It's only 94.
Went to see this film oh so many times when it came out and the good news today is that it comes out on BLU_RAY and DVD AUGUST 16th 2011. Amazon dot com have already listed it for pre order! YAY...............................
went to the cinema to see this i had two bottles of clan dew before, cant remember fuck all[i was 16] and never seen it to buy any where, strange nowadays.cant find clan dew either.
I downloaded it at freehdmovie - just enter it into the 'movie search' bit when you're on the site . Only took an hour or so to download and it's a brilliant copy - sat and watched it again after not having seen it for about twenty years , great stuff ! ( 'cos I didn't fancy paying 95 quid for it either...)
ebay has dvd copies in pal format from time to time.. they are out of print now and run about $75-150 bucks at least, but It was the uncut British version.. in the U.S. it was on vhs for a while, but they deleted the entire ending and really toned down her crack up so it ended up looking like she had "made it", which missed the entire point of the film.It was called Breaking Glass for a reason to show how dreams of fame can be shattered by evil "Big Brother" type record moguls, duh. . .
@tonyvaguely Yeh they did that with a few british films mainly a film called "silver dream racer" where they shot a whole new happy ending for the american release where david essex didnt die at the end but just won the race.
me and my mate baz went to the cinema to see it 1980 after 4 cans of colt 45 and a bottle of clan dew [ we were 16] so i cant remember it . never seen again is it available it would be nice to see it , see if it was as good as i forgot
The first half of the film is good. The second half when she finds fame is bleeding hopeless. I think they missed the point about following your dreams.
that is cool, he was lucky to have been in a such a ground breaking film. I was 15 when it came out and loved it, still do. Met Hazel she is a really nice lady.
this film was the best. hazel killed it, i wonder where she is now, this movie still effects me many years later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! better then the germs or the sexpistols ramones
she was in nottingham last night lol performing with the HERE AND NOW TOUR she was bloody amazing even tho she only sang 3 songs, they ere the best 3 DDAYS,WILL YOU and 8TH DAY,was lucky enough to meet her before the gig she was lovely had so much time to chat take photos and do autographsSTILL ROCKS AT 54! lol
still effects me too must of listened to it loads as no every song word for word still crimp my hair and wear loads of black eyeliner sad at 39 an embbarressment to my kidz
Where the hell was i and what was i doing when this film came out. Why didnt anyone tell me about this film back in the 80's i am so stuck in the 80's and never saw this film. Thanks for posting this looks like i am off to ebay as well to buy a copy of this. If it is half as good as quadrophenia it will be a great film.
Hello caseykay2008 as yet i have not found a copy of it on DVD but i am still looking. I wll have a look on Amazon some time. Can you recommend any other films staring Phil Daniels or a simalar film that you have watched thats as good. I have quadrophenia and love that film.
Scum is a good but bleak film staring Phil Daniels & Ray Winstone.
Other good punk films from that era are Ladies & Gentlemen The Fabulous Stains again starring Ray Winstone & also Derek Jarman's Jubilee starring Toyah Wilcox.
Ah Scum i remember that film well the pool balls in the sock. Had not heard of the other films you mentioned so looks like another ebay jaunt to try and find them. Thanks for your help.
I was so excited abiut this....I was 13 and was allowed to go to the pics with my friend and no parents...I loved this film, and the lp...I haven't heard it for literally years and i remember every word. Have just bought the lp from ebay...thanks so much for the upload xx
A brave film at the time, stylistically, as I seem to remember punk had dwindled even by that year pretty much to a handful of diehards and the occasional young person in tartan trousers, leather jacket and Mohican hair standing round King's Road waiting to be photographed.
First time I saw this movie was on USA channel's 'Night Flight' programme in '84. Taped it and was captivated. I own a VHS copy and the sound track on CD. Nice to see the trailer for the first time.
I first saw this on Israeli TV in 1994, and at that time it was pretty much forgotten, even in Britain. There are several films from the early 1980's that portray the Punk movement, but they're hard to come by.
I saw this at the Kilburn ABC aged 13. Became oddly obsessed with Phil Daniels after this. Still think he's quite cute. HA HA. Anyway, would love to see this film again, this trailer brought it all back.
True. But a few things I remember from seeing it in 1982 or so (tried to rent on vhs in '88 but tape broken: guy in one of the opening scenes wearing a Specials tshirt w/ cameo by Paul McCartney; "Cockfosters" on Piccadilly line tube train; and the line "these were all bought retail"
Hazel O'Connor is fucking scary with the white face. what's up with that?!
