i absolutely hate fil- am people or pure pinoy in US,who dont even know how to speak our native language na. they keep on slanging aahahahahaha.. and they come back as if they are acting like a shit americanized people trying hard to be an american! xt!
what?? people who love some part our filipino culture is also a pinoy?? you must be joking.
so should i claim that i am a kano because i love some part of american culture? or maybe i'm a mexican because i love tacos and buritos and i love the fiestas?
@grudger62896 Hmm, well if it's between those two choices, I have to go with the reported research, which states that very few are of Spanish descent.
@jokway@jokway I see I am filipino both of my parents have like a spanishlast names but i wsas born in a different country then moved back phil then moved here to vancity:) LOL
kamusta,,,kung totoong pilipno ka dapat marunong ka ring mag tagalog,,dahil fil am ka gusto ko rin kitang makita na nanag taglish or tagalog english ....but you cute honey
Well said...I am a Fil-am originally from NJ, and can say this describes my life as well. By the way Jokway... here's a list of Pinoy spots you might wanna check out if you're ever in that neck of the woods: Bamboo Grill (Washington ave, Bergenfield), Fil-am (Jersey City), Fiesta Grill (Jersey City), Manilla Bakery (Jersey City), Fil-am (Edison, Lincoln highway/27 I think)...lates!
I have been with a Fil-AM and he does great here in america he was born there and raised here. He has a job he loves and wants to be at. People are nice to him besides the few that think he is hispanic. We live in a small town in se iowa, so im not sure why you think it is hard for Fil-Am in America.
I like how u decide to not assimilate...i think it's important to embrace your culture and know your roots in order to know your future...it was hard in my family growing up cuz my dad lived in poverty in the PI and came here for the reason of making a better life for my family so he always tried to "Americanize" us growing up but my mom kept the culture and values instilled in us. Now that i'm in college, im constantly trying to rediscover my roots & embrace my culture as a Pilipina-American
One of the filipino characeristics is that you know how to speak its language. If ur pure filipino but born here it doesnt mean u dnt have to learb to speak ur lang. Ang tao di marunong magsalita ng kanyang sariling wika ay higit pa sa isang malansang isda. I wish you get to learn the lang. Ako ay pinoy or just say Im american and just american. Some american can even speak tagalog why not a pure filipino that was only difrence was raised in US. Just a comment!
i was born and raised in america for 8 years. then i came here. and damn it was hard for me to adapt without knowing how to speak tagalog. i just recently realized that i had cultural shock. but after 8 years staying here, i learned how to speak fluent tagalog and i adapted with the culture and the people.i still have my english accent which gives me a major advantage at my college. even though im pure filipino, i have light complexion. which gives me "pogi points" hahaha
Haha, yeah man I can relate to what you said. I'm not a Fil-Am but I grew up in Micronesia stayed there for 7.5 years then came here to Manila. I went through what you did, cultural shock, especially with tagalog. But all is well now, and I've adapted fully to the way of life. =)
Pure filipinos are actually really light :D I mean.. Filipinos from Metro manila They're even tall REALLY TALL.. And BTW.. here.. it's easier to bare a boy child white.. most girls are dark :) Remember.. Most impure filipinos, filipinos from provinces like cebu, ilo-ilo could mix with manila people.. thats why some most pinoys are dark.. but in some places like pampanga they're really white :D okay.. If you can't understand what i just said.. it's okay cause i don't understand it too (: PEACE~!!
Hey jokway kumusta ka?im a pinay living and working in HK for awhile now...I just wanna ask if u sometimes feel ashamed of being a PINOY.? Specially if ur hear bad stuff about filipino
nokarin kayu king pampanga? nang a stalk daka!lol just kidding! you don't have to answer that btw, I'm just showing-off(*wink *wink), nywayz, awesome videos-intellectually stimulating!Re:your 1st video, just want to share - Philippines is part of SOUTH EAST ASIA, we participate in SEAG (SOUTH EAST ASIAN GAMES) and a member of ASEAN (Assoc of Southeast Asian Nations). So I believe Filipinos are Asians. But who cares?I AM FILIPINA and Proud of it! Yun naman ang importante db?(Hope you understand lol)
dude, very awesome series of vlog you got, keep up the good work, tnx to you the most common ideas taken forgranted here in the philippines is now a way much better understood by the ones who saw your vlogs.
I read this book two months ago.. here's an excerpt from it..
What is a Filipino in America?
"Visually, he is too brown to be either white or black, a condition very much to his favor. In the everyday confrontation between the Black and the White, he becomes the object of a tug-of-war. But while avowedly brown, he is also consciously white, yellow, black and red. He is by adoption, religion, customs, education and living habits all races."
we just moved here in the US a couple of years ago, and all i can say is ang hirap! i was born and raised in the Phil. and i won't trade anything else para sa buhay-pinas, base on my length of stay here. but yes, we still gladly embrassed and learned the american way of living because it also offers so much! yes, as Filipinos, we can be wherever we wanna be and still be a true PINOY inside!!!
I know what you mean. I was born and raised in the PI, been in America for 5 years. I do have a higher level of English than some of my American friends. Sometimes when I'm with them, I feel a little self-conscious cause I'm afraid of being alienated, and so I ease up on the Filipino references and stuff. But with my Flip friends here, I can be like myself when I was in the PI. I'm lucky though to have found a girl who loves learning about my culture, also friends who enjoy Filipino comradery.
as interesting and challenging(for some) it is to grow up as fil-am,I really dont think we should glorify ourselves too much as some unique victim of cultural differences.I mean there are challenges,I am aware of that but at the end of the day, skin color doesnt define who or what you want to be,its all determined by your own doing(if you learn to allow yourself to)..I think you're getting close to the 'victim card'
How can you call yourself Filipino if you cannot speak the language? You're just an Americanized Filipino wannabe. My question to you is why your parents didn't raise you right and why you don't speak the mother tongue fluently? You should be ashamed to call yourself Filipino. You're just a white-washed American. that's it. Word of God!
That's a really horrible thing to say. It's not his fault, nor is it his parents. His family had a different life from most of our countryman. I, for one, am proud of this guy because he embraces his heritage. You should never judge other's for not living a life to your standards. Try to be more open minded and understanding, choose your words carefully because what you say can be really damaging and hurtful. It also shows the quality of your upbringing which right now looks very poor.
hustlapnoy...Wow! You have a major attitude problem... You are probably one of the Filipino who is an embarrassment to the Filipino cultural! I am also a Filipino-American and can totally relate to Jokway. Jokway is obviously a better person than you will ever be...I think you are just jealous of jokway's intellectual abilities compared to your pea size brain. Jokway...you are obviously a very bright individual. Ignore hustlapnoy...he is an idiot that does not know what he is talking about.
Your comments assume that there is an established definition of a Filipino American identity. Moreover, you presume to know about this vlogger's life experiences and history, leading you to unfairly question his identity.
