  • Thank you for posting your video for all to see.

  • can the firmware be updated, if so, how and which website?

  • This is a great unit!! Buy one, now.

  • Hey there :-)

It accept subtitles? And if yes what languishes? Cause I have another TV media player that accepts subs but the Greek subtitles it show with Chinese letters. @_@ LOL

    Thank you

  • no problem, very good device !!!!

  • Can this be used to record off a ps3?

  • I have one of these for over an year now !! And it is great !!

  • i love it best money i ever spend!

  • can u use this to record hd xbox gameplay?

  • Yea the deal is mkv is getting more pop MKV and MP4 with h264 codec are the 2 most popular, Avi is old and crumbling

  • Just bought this with a 1tb WD Mybook external harddrive and a Ps3 slim 250gb.. So now i got the ultimate home cinema system :P Work's excellent on my Full HD 42 inch tv

  • when i want to play a hd movie which requiers a 5.1 sound, doesnt play the sound (i dont have 5.1). any help so i can hear the sound from my tv? pleaseee? :)

  • when I play ( H264 & X264 ) Audio sync are not even with the video. the person talks but the sound comes out 3 seconds later. it played fine earlier but its doing it now and its doing it on all my (H264 & x264) another issue is wmv9 it supports but wont support wmv earlier codec . the Firmware Release 1.01.77 (12/3/09). a home made tweak might be needed to fix these issues

  • I heard that it cannot play right protected videos, so if I buy videos or movies on iTunes, for instance, it won't play them. Is that true ? If so, how/where can I get "non-right protected stuff" to store directly on my drive(s) instead of having to copy hundreds of DVDs ?

  • Boo. This thing doesn't support DVD menus. I have my DVDs just backed up to a USB drive in the original DVD folder structure (Video_TS / VOB files) because my pc didn't have the horsepower to convert the files. My other player (Seagate FAT+) plays these folders just like if you'd stuck a dvd in the drive. The WD ust lists a bunch of VOB files. Lame.

  • dont they look sweet and juicy

  • Can it play iso. files?

    thanks.

  • I recently bought the "Nbox" media player but was disappointed with it's performance. I really wanted the new Western Digital HD model but the price was floating up around $150.00 and then there was delivery. Finally I have a "REFURBISHED" unit coming at half the price and with free delivery. I love buying refurbished items as they work great because they get more attention put into them then your standard production line units. If money is always an issue , then try refurbished. It's great !!!.

  • gr8 vid. will get one

  • When using .AVI files, does this unit break the file up into chapters - so that it can be watched like a DVD using the FF function thru each chapter ??

  • I would really like to know if you can change the aspect ratio of and crop videos with this device. (I'd hate to see black bars so I often either crop or change the aspect ratio).

  • can it play .mkv files?

  • @fitch103

    yes, it can....

the wd media player mini can't do it.

the wd media player and the live version(this media player, with ethernet connection) can play the .mkv till fullhd versions. its one of the famous mediaplayer with poppcorn media player

  • @fitch103 yes

  • Can I copy my films to this media player or do I have to play through a usb device ?

  • can you put it in a dvd usb port? or one of those subwoofer things

  • i have this and its great

i could play all my high def anime files

i could play using my external harddrive and usb thumbdrives

i could play almost any types of media except rm's or rmvb's from real media

  • dont they look sweet and juicy

  • Are there any media players that can play .iso files?

  • @ThatGuyFromYouTueb there is no .iso files for media dude

  • @ThatGuyFromYouTueb Sitecom MD-270

    Supposedly a very good one

  • is it possible to use "reduction" USB to Ethernet and connect the WD Media Player to my ethernet port in my notebook? will it work? Thx

  • is it possible to use "reduction" from USB to Ethernet and connect the WD Media Player to my Ethernet port in my notebook? Thx

  • This is a neat device. If I can watch anime in HD using this, I'm def. gonna buy it.

  • LOL

  • so can i play vhs that are backed up by the ez grabber on this.

  • can i livestream with this?

  • No, to livestream you'll need the Western Digital TV HD Live Media Player version. Cost a little more...

  • sir, a great review

  • Hi ive got the 1.5TB my book essential hardrive is this compatible with the player

  • @ExTrEmEAsSaUlTSqUaD

they're all compatible as long as they have USB port.

  • Hi. Ive gt a 500gb Seagate ex-hard drive. its sed that any ex-hdd work....my ex-h also has a plug port (adapter)...will this work the same an a ex-h with just a usb port

  • Or If I wanted to hook up two 1TB IOMEGA External Hard Drives to this bad boy, What...?

That's 2TB of Movies, Photos, and Music, WOW !!!

Right now, you can get an Iomega 1TB External HD for about 129.99.

If you have nothing but AVI Video Files, at 700MB a piece, 931,000MB / 700MB is 1,330 Movies.

Or with two 1TB IOMEGA External Hard Drives, That's 2,660 Movies. Depends on how you encode the AVI Video Files... Maybe try MPEG-2 or MPEG-4, ect.

    Awesome Video Review, Thank You.

  • apple tv or this? well apple tv only plays 2 formats (w/e itunes recognizes) does this WD player plays RMVB?

  • another one in the series does but doesnt play as much as the other which doesnt play rmvb. bit dumb i reckon

  • this looks pretty good, but I personally don't need it since I have an xbox 360

  • 360 doesn't support alot of video and audio formats :(

  • @bzick1983 can i stream with this recorder and my xbox 360? thanks and hope to hear from someone

  • Xbox 360 as media center sucks. It dosn't play avi or mkv natively. Just suing the stream options which suck.

  • im so getting one of these!

  • love the sneaker net thing :))

  • This is a very cool device!

  • Thank you so much for this HD review.

I was looking to buy this itmes but the other videos are so fuzzy you cannot see the HD.

    Finally a serious review.

  • "don't they they look sweet and juicy?"

    lmao

  • Very powerful for such a small media player. But I'm in doubt if it's better to take this one home or to get more money and buy a Venice media player from Amex Digital. This one is more complete, even will BitTorrent support and slot for a SATA 2.3" 2tb HDD. The PS3's XMB like menu from WD media player is very beautiful and simple.

  • Great review, but the icing on the cake is this cool dude in beard...! I like him, there's something enigmatic about him.

  • LMAO sneaker net :) Why dont the sneakers come with the awesomness WD TV HD Media Player only flaw i can find hehehe this thing plays everything and if on the rare occasion it cant play it, it has the software so you can convert it sweetness I LOVE IT !!

  • does it have to be connected to "WD passport" or can it be any external harddrive?

  • I have WD TV, any other external HDD will work.

  • just get PS3...

  • this is better than a ps3 because it can play mkv. you don't need to convert most files. ;o

the ps3 supports very few formats, compared to a WD TV.

  • Can i record live tv on to this?

  • if you connect the media player to a monitor with the hdmi can you simultaneously play sound through the RCA or optical output?

  • i wonder the same...

  • im wondering about this too!!

  • i'm wondering about this too!!

  • lmao This guy is funny. I'm def gonna get this

  • sneaker net!!!!

  • These are great little units! If you connect an ipod classic to this by it's sync cable, it will read and play music files( if the files are not protected) diectly from the ipod. Also it is great for viewing photos stored on thumb drives, and it shows the dates & folder locations on the TV screen.

  • sneaker net... lol

  • Don't they look sweet and juicey! lol!

  • thanks this is helpful!!

  • I have 5TB of MKV blueray rips. Some are 720P and they play fine on my PS3 if i decode the files or use tsmuxer.

But huge movie files that are like 45GB big, if i try to mux them or convert them them from MKV they will just lag and with no sound on my PS3.

Will this thing solve my problem, or is it waste of money if i own a PS3

    ????????

    Can anyone please help me!!!

I give up soon, but i will not buy a single blueray! LONG LIVE THEPIRATEBAY

  • can any one tell me what I need to do to play my vob files In 5.1 surround sound

do I need to convert my vob files to xvid or some other format.

could some body help me with this and If

you do I''ll post nice things about you on you tube;)

  • yes u cant play vob on any media player. convert them.

  • I almost bought one today but put it back on the shelf and thinking back its a good thing. I think I'm rethinking the whole thing and I'm going to look for a device that can read the Media from my Network NAS Drives (1.5TB)

  • wish this thing supports blu ray pgs subtitles!!!!

  • it wont recognise copy protected content? does that mean it wont play things you pay for but will play things you download on the sly?

  • This is nice video99627340

  • can it play ogm files?

  • wont play DTS audio!

  • Even DTS embedded in the MKV file container?

  • Is it plugged on the optical audio port?

  • OldeSkool1..I have a 4 port usb hub attached to my WD to add more ports. It works well. Hook it up homie.

  • I have a External HD from Maxtor (Onetouch 4mini) wich uses one cable with 2 USB ports: one for data and the other for power. Does anybody know if the WDTV recognizes these type of drives? Reply directly to me, thank you

  • Hi dude, i have a maxtor ext hd as well with the 2 usb ports, was wondering if anyone did reply to your query above as im also interested to know if it will work or i need to get a new ext hd thanks in advance

  • This dude is good.. :) watch out david pogue !

  • loving the sneakernet

  • Thanks for the review, also in HD which is nice. Planning to get one as soon as I get some money.

  • I have one of these. Can I hook connect a usb hub to increase the number of usb inputs?

  • I have one of these. Can I hook a usb hub to increase the number usb inputs?

  • OldeSkool1... I have a 4 port usb hub attached to mine and it works well. Hook it up homie.

  • would this play rmvb? or can be converted quickly n easily???

  • This cool little device works perfectly almost too good to be true except.... when play a movies file .vob.. YOU CAN NOT SKIP TO THE NEXT CHAPTER or backward.... BUT you can fast forward and backward!!?? ......Yeeeaaaahh!!!????

  • love the end! haha

  • ordered one last week, coming this tuesday!

  • Zenon2006 posted: "ordered one last week, coming this tuesday!"

don't forget to go on WD's website to get the updates it has for it.

  • this thing is supposed to play h.264, but it doesn't say anything about avchd. I was wondering since avchd uses the h.264 compression, does that mean this thing can play avchd videos i plan on recording with my canon hf100?

  • anyone know, can this player supply power to an external usb hard drive?

  • If the hard drive is powered by usb then yes it does. If your hard drive uses an AC adaptor then nooooooo.

  • Yes. I have one. It does supply power through the USB port like any computer USB

  • awesome quality

  • how much can to hold?

  • It cant hold anything, you need external memory, and were are you from

  • I think it's an insult that it doesn't support the EXT3 file system. This media player is made possible by Linux, yet the makers purposely made it uncompatible with ext3 formatted harddrives.

I *hate* the windoze file systems because of its restrictions.

  • format it to NFTS that hasn't restrictions

  • Wow, you look really like George Lucas. Like really. O_O

  • hahahahha.. i laughed at the end...

    so random...yet so hiiiiiiiilllaaaaaarious

  • I can't log on to my sneakernet :(

  • I hope when there's another update that rvsmb & rm extensions are added.

  • whats the maximum storage capacity supported ?

  • it's unlimited... you plug in your USB mass storage devices. so it depends of your hard drives not the w. digital media hd tv

  • is this support 5.1 sound chanel

  • I have Panasonic sd9 HD video recorder. will play AVCHD when i down load to my WD passport I have to rename the file (AVCHD 1 or 2 and so on) i would like to play home video on LCD TV.

  • just buy a PS3... does everything this can plus a lot more

  • i just bought this because i have a ps3 lol!

i can't transfer hd files to the ps3 unless i stream it. the dark knight at 12 gbs took 3 hours to copy to the ps3. this is way better and faster, and plus it's cheap and i can easily move it among my 52" lcd, 50" plasma, and 40" lcd. i absolutely love my ps3 but this is the only problem i ran into with it. this is way better than copying large files wirelessly. obviously, you haven't tried transfering files over 4gbs. peace

  • mkv2vob - change to MPG but with the H.264 encoding works on 97% of bluray movies and allows you to stream directly to your PS3 live (LAN only cause wireless is crap) play straight away no need to wait. I'm thinkin bout getting one of these media players but i dont like the fact it has its own library - thats a real pain in the bum cause i organise my own files and have quite a lot...

  • Apart from costing serveral times as much, a PS3 also does not play videos in Matroska (.mkv) containers.

  • it sells for $140.00 buck's

  • Non-gamers aren't going to buy a pricey console.

  • Very Nice!!!

  • Very interesting,thanks

  • is this good for anime ? .mkv and ogm files like mkv or ogm have multiple audio tracks japanese/english can you switch it with this?

    or .sub subtitles?

planning on buying one so need to know

  • yes it supports mkv subs

  • Brilliant. I loved the end hahahaha

  • "Don't they look sweet and juicy".

  • I want one, load all your music in a lossless format (FLAC) on a terabyte drive (or two), and hook to your home theatre!

BETTER than hooking a 30 gig Ipod to your stereo!

  • i have problem with it, it can play my mkv files, but without sound, someone has idea, avi plays fine

  • Did you try to upgrade FW? I had the same problem so I upgraded it with new FW and it was OK

  • are you able to play the 1080p (x264) with DTS in a .mkv file?

  • i second that.

  • love the interface, cant wait till i get it!!

  • Great review, bough one for 100 EUR, will be delivered next week :)

  • The interface looks so nice! Most mediaplayers have such an ugly interface. Plus the device is really small. The only minor issue I have is the remote, it looks really old fashioned.

  • Do these have upconvert technology in them?

  • Excelent review

  • They do look Sweet a Juicy.....WAFF.

I going to get this instead of hacking a Apple TV or Buying a Mac Mini for a Media Center.

  • I just received a Mino HD video camera and couldn't even watch the HD videos on my HDTV until I bought the WD TV HD. Now I can actually see the quality the Mino records. Remember there is NO HDMI on the Mino.

  • Very funny!!!!!!!ahahahah i like that.

  • That's a fine piece of tech and it definitely has got some nice design. I own one since 3 weeks now and I love it. Syabas couldn't deliver the A-110 on time so I cancelled my order and purchased this device for the 1/3 of the A-110 price (Germany) instead.

  • I'm trying to setup a Universal Remote control for the WD HD TV. What is this device considered to be DVD, PVR, TV, or what?

  • "dont they looks sweet 'n juicy?" :D

  • Thanks for the great quality direct output menu clips....
