Liberia doesn't need to have a large population to consume all she produces. If that was the case, than there'll be no need for export which is suppose to built our foreign reserves. Luxembourg of Europe is a perfect example. It has a populaion of only 500,000 with no natural resources but a GDP of US$40+billion dollars. How much of this does Luxembourg consumes? You might argue that it is an advance and educated economy which is true. But, that, Liberia can obtain aswell with the help of her..
at the end of this video, did you see the sign that says A NEW DAY FOR LIBERIA? AND DRILL FOR OIL? thats just one of the few companies currently in Liberia exploring our offshore reserves. Liberia might only be known to host massive iron ore, gold, diamonds, copper, cobalt, maganese, timber, rubber, etc, but not the oil that sits offshore! 50billion+ barrels of oil= oil wealth, so, Liberia might not need to touch her other mineral resources till she educates her people now that she has oil.
Liberia is on it's way to a major economy recovery that will propell the nation into a middle income country. Hang in there people, we'll be ok. All these new developments shown were archieved in the last four years. We haven't started to export oil, iron ore, gold, diamonds, copper, cobalt, nor have we process our oil palm, cocoa, coffee, rubber and timber for export. So, from all indications and with a country of just 3.4million population, it wont take us long to get there. President Ellen...
@marck224 Mark you keep talking about minerals my friend there is a global economic slowdown minerals are a lagging demand. You cant export and get paper in return it will never create wealth. You need a modern educated workforce not an extraction economy.Sirleaf has no clue about economics. Why do you think shes has to say 2030?If Liberia attracted skilled people across the diaspora it could achieve what Israel,Singapore,Hong Kong ect did in ten years.A stock exchange,a federal system and land RE
@makkool you're right, but one thing you have to understand is that no matter how bad the world economy is, one thing that's for sure is, nations will continue to look for oil and pay whatever cost for it. Capital goods will always be needed inorder for us to produce consumer goods especially food. Liberia don't only have the mineral resources to produce capital goods but also the firtle soil to produce consumer goods. Even if we suspend to export of minerals, we still have oil and the land....
@marck224 Liberia does not have domestic consumption of goods in any large number. No company is going to risk any long term investment in a unstable country.85% illiteracy and most of the country does not have roads or schools. Most schools and clinics are funded by NGO's.Liberia has to create a dynamic educated population to attract investment.
@makkool Liberia doesn't have to. The country GDP is what matters. Dubai population is 2.2million with no natural resources except the 4billion barrels of oil. Today, people are magriting from all over the would to go and live there becuase of the money that Emerit is swiming in. Liberia has 3.5million population. A number can't be placed on our natural resources. From gold, diamonds, copper cobalt, maganese, busite, timber, rubber, to areable land, for oil palm, cocoa, coffee, etc THAN OIL!!!
@marck224 Marck you do not seem to be educated about how an economy develops. You have to have a skilled educated workforce to justify industrialization Liberia is 20 years way off from that.Even Ghana cannot justify a mineral processing infrastructure because it does not have a domestic consumption base.Only Nigeria and South Africa have the size and economy to do this.Liberia would need rich immigrant and highly skilled people by the millions to draw investment
@makkool I agree, but whoe's fault is it? if the so called AA's has put Liberia first, we wont have had to go through this. Liberia is not Nigeria nor South Africa so we can't compare. Luxembourg in Europe has a population of 502,202, and an area size of 2586.4 km, it's GDP is US$40billion. No natural resources but processes steal, tires, chemicals, and agri products for export. Even though we don't have the human and physical capital in place, however, we're working with our partners in...
@marck224 Actually There are many Liberians in the USA bonding with the AA community, living in our cities, going to our colleges and joining our churches. They get it.The only people capable of helping Liberia are AA's.Liberians are building bridges and now competing with South Africa and Ghana as the number one country of bond for AA's.Now it is South Africa because it is modern and developed.People who like Liberia are the most sincere because Liberia has so little to offer and it is risky.
