I wonder how much Tx power that little Linksys has, maybe 200mW? That's some great performance. That gives me great hope for my 3.2 mile WiFi bridge I am planning to get service out to my future home site that has no service. I was planning on using the Ubiquiti 800mW bullet bridgers, 24dBi grid dish antennas and keeping the bridgers within 10ft of the antennas using LMR-400, providing room for lightning protection of course, and running cat5 with PoE up to them. So no other wires to run.

You ever consider using a 3' satellite TV antenna and recalculating the focal point? Some of those antennas have something like 25 dBi, and I wouldn't be surprised if you could make a good connection at twice your current distance.
Also, ever consider putting that linksys on the ham band, putting an amp on the thing, and staying connected to fellow hams continuously? That should be a lot of fun :D.

I am wondering your thoughts on using a maybe 6' bit of 4" aluminum irrigation pipe for the tube of the cantenna. I suppose that the antenna must be added to the pipe and then a cap or plug added to the rear end of the pipe to facilitate easy construction. Just a thought, David in Oregon

I think that would be extremely directional. I'm not sure if you would pass the point of diminishing returns with a pipe that long though.

@gthomas if u used this strictly as a TX antenna And had a seperate omni for RX then perhaps but otherwise no go on a pipe that long. if you do this let us know how it werks out

you can get some crazy signal distance when you point 2 of em at eachother, or even try the proffesionally manufactured ones...

I'm glad you guys did this clip! I'm playing around with a plastic collander lined in tinfoil attached to a broomstick inside my apartment-- using the same, but unaltered, linksys component c-clamped to the collander.
