  • if you did'nt top it up with water the plants would die so it aint self watering realy unless the plants walk to a tap to top themselves up.

  • @fatturdburger Water moves by a hydraulic gradient replacing losses from evapotranspiration. As far as there is water in the deposit underneath the rooting compartiment gets recharge according to the demand. Technically it is self-watering as it can get water according to a demand replacing variable losses.

    I am not surprised by our doubts because even in the patenting system Hydrology is played by inventors, attorneys, and examiners as lay people not trained in Classical Hydrology.

  • Well, I got PhD in Soil Science and it gives a broad range of understanding on the subject. I have three US issued patents on the subject. Good luck.
