Though the Benz had a slightly higher acceleration than the Lexus, it did not pull away much farther than the Lexus. Overall, the Lexus beats the Benz in technical sophistication (including more futuristic dashboard), reliability & cost/maintenance price.

We've never had a problem with our German car. And Lexus is still a fancier Toyota, and can't reach the quality of a BMW or Mercedes. Trust me, I've rode in all of them...

Lexus will NEVER catch up the Benz. Google the past few models of LS and S-Class and look how much Lexus mirrors and copies Mercedes. Its sad. The GS is just as bad. Than again if you can't beat them, copy'em. I'd rather have a purpose built car, rather than a masked Toyota and jacked up price. I think the LS has the same switches as a Toyota Avalon, rav4, FJ cruiser and such.

There is no difference between an S550 and S500. S550 is sold in USA and S500 is sold in Europe. Name is diffrent in USA and in Europe. S500 has the same 5,5 V8 engine as S550. S500 is erupoean version of S550. Everything else is the same.

LOL the Lexus can't compare with Mercedes. Mercedes is much better. Yes, performance is better for Mercedes. But it the same for the luxury safety too. Mercedes S-Class is one of the safest car in the world fyi. And it also the best selling luxury car. I not saying the Lexus is ugly or slow, but Mercedes S-Class is definitely better.

I have driven both cars The Lexus is quieter & smoother. The Benz is louder, more robust, like a traditional American luxury car. Precision is the Lexus' game. Command is the Benz forte They will appeal to different tastes, different drivers They are very different cars, in priorities, style, and focus No replacement for displacement 5.5L vs 4.6L Not a shock Benz 0-60 should be .5 faster than the LS While the LS will have the advantage in efficiency Now if that's worth another $20k........

Well explain that one to me. The only big advantage to additional displacement is torque. Torque won't win you a drag race as long as this one was, and the Mercedes never looked back. That's the only argument I could see a remotely educated (on engines and drag racing) person making, and it's an incorrect argument in scenarios such as this one.
