I agree. If I die and go to heaven someday as a good boy, I hope to meet Mairead up there. But I have to wait, she is younger than I with more years left on this planet, ha ha.
If Mairead were there instead of Helen of Troy, there would have been more than 1,000 ships launched for the war -- and even Canada would have gotten involved. More men have fallen in love with this little nymph-of-a-woman than any other girl throughout history. I am certain of that.
@erikomertens the first time i tried to play violin, i felt the passion of playing. this is what happens with mairead, and so she's so into and passionate about what she's doing. ^^
@crazychica4383 She often performs this song barefoot. It might have something to do with a story in Irish folklore that has Granuaile meeting Queen Elizabeth I barefoot.
@IntoTheMystical or her feet might swell if she wears shoes while dancing like that. so her shoes wont blister her feet^^ but that's a clever inference, dear! ^^

i love how she never stays still when playing the violin. so refreshing to see her move around on stage and have fun and u can tell she is having fun by how she dances around
I have always wanted to play a Violin. But we dont have the money and the only other instrument we have is a saxaphone... its nice but Violins have always had a place in my heart!
@SuperBabybug You can actually pick up a violin on Ebay for well under $60 if you look. I got my nephew a student one last year for Christmas via Ebay.
@SuperBabybug ~I played the violin for many, many years and this woman makes it look easy!! I have to say, the violin is not nearly as easy as this and it takes many countless hours of many years to "master"- I wish you luck :)
@Leonhart666, The violin was given to her as a child, so she sort of "grew up" with it. She is comfortable with it and it has a good sound for concerts (she calls it "her baby"). She has used other violins from time to time, but this one appears to be her favorite.
I absolutely love her liveliness and pure joy while she plays this song! You can tell that she is having the time of her life with it! I also loved how they cut to that one old guy that was dancing in his seat. That was adorable! How can you not dance to this song?
To 1sorryham. My profound apology for my nasty comment about "yobbos" at musical performance Relying on my hearing aids to enjoy quality music can be frustrating when extraneous noise overpowers the music. Nonetheless my comment was not justified.
The second I tried to run and dance like that in high heels I'd fall and break my leg, arm, other let, wrist, neck... probably anything that can be broken. What she has is talent.
@704macleod it isn't a "Yobbo" audience, but an intelligent one that knows exactly what to do. The clapping is an integral part of the music and is not only expected but encouraged by Mairead herself on-stage. There are plenty of other songs in her live performances where there is no clapping and you can concentrate on Mairead's playing, but there are others where she deliberately "directs" the audience with her bow and her laser-beam looks into the crowd to get them involved with the music.
I can certainly see why she would go barefoot. You try flying around the stage in high heels and you'll probably find out why she refuses to wear them.
@squidoogeek She doesn't go barefoot in all her performances, though. Have you seen her in Mo Ghile Mear? After the interlude, she practically flew out onto the front of the stage in heels by making a grand leap.
She is dancing omn barefoot. I have the whole video from the concert. If you don not fall in love with this amazing and beautiful woman, you must be gay :)
It is amazing how the violin never leaves it`s place
@shadowflame31ify Well, actually I ask for more! I'm forever amazed by Mairead Nesbitt, trained as a classical violinist and still proficient in traditional fiddle tunes.
@heathersvan Actually, you don't exactly have more control, and it doesn't effect the sound, but it makes the bow much lighter, so it's easier to play faster, and you don't have to move your arm as much to change strings. A lot of fiddlers hold it up there, and a lot of other fiddlers hold at the frog, so it doesn't really matter, unless you're stay part with classical, then keep holding it at the frog.
Does anyone know why she holds her hand so high on the bow? Is this to influence her sound in some way? I'm trying to learn to play celtic violin (I only play classical right now), and I want to do everything right.. that's why I'm curious if holding the bow this way is somehow important to the celtic style..?
@heathersvan the higher up she holds it, the more control she has in the higher range when she's playing faster, there is more support. Most celtic fiddlers do this.
@DemonShuriken87 Okay, thank you. So it's just a support issue. I'll just keep holding the bow the way I do then since it doesn't influence the fluidity of the sound or anything. Thank you!
I think this one really shows her love of the music and her fiddle. You can see it in her movements and facial expressions. Just as she's really launching into this song, you can see the mischief in her eyes. This has to be my absolute favorite!!! In other songs, you see the classical violinist and the fiddle player, both are incredible talents.
Ohhhh My GOD ... She is Soooo Beautiful, I'm speechless, everything in her spells pure beauty...her face, her body, her movements, her talent OH my God.... I will die for her.
to the comment about her dancing in heels, She's actually barefoot in this video. I've seen them in concert and she is typically barefoot. She hates shoes, especially heels.
It amazes me how well she can play the violin and run so fast, jump so high, and dance on high heels at the same time!!! She makes it look so easy, but I know it's not.
OMG!!! She is so AWESOME!!! I really wish i could play like she can. Im trying to teach myself how to dance and play at the same time... I hope in the future i can be as good as her. (i doubt it. She is FANTASTIC!!!)
