@calimar28 Even though I don't approve of Nixon its kind of sad to think that people can be so easily led in their voting habits by a flashy campaign which does not really give them information on the candidate: "Old enough to know, and young enough to do" do what exactly?
He was a profoundly deep thinker/intellectual and he was a formidable statesman. But he was also a bit paranoid of his political enemies and too loyal to his subordinates for his own good. Watergate, which he had no real guilt over -- but which he probably tried to cover up -- weakened the Presidency, probably in a bad way.
This was sampled heavily at the start of the FGtH video for 'Two Tribes':
"Above everything else, the American people want leaders who will keep the peace, keep the peace, keep keep keep keep keep the peace.. Henry Cabot Lodge and I.. keep the peace.. 'no' (know) Mr Kruschev, no no Mr Kruschev, nononononono Mr Kruschev.. Lodge and I.. no.. firm diplomacy.. no Mr Kruschev, nononononono Mr Kruschev.. no no no.. peace for America and the world.. (kissing noises)" - "no apologies, no regrets" later
@SunsetGroove Shut up; look at the two most recent presidents: both disasters. Watergate was one thing you idiot. He was one of the best presidents we've ever had, especially better than that idiot peanut-farmer Jimmy Carter
Yeah this ran opposite the "Kenn-e-dy Kenn-e-dy Kenn-e-dy Kenn-e-dy" commercial.
No wonder Kennedy won.

I like when Don in Mad Men responded in 10 seconds, "shut it off" after watching the Kennedy song.

He should've just rode his Dialga, it would've won the whole nation.

he got robbed in that election.
coorsbabesrule 3 years ago 2
he actually probably did. there is proof that kennedy and johnson may have committed voting fraud in texas and georgia, among others.
planetmiketv 2 years ago
i've heard that they was voter fraud in illinois, texas, and maybe missouri, i've never heard of it in georgia.
coorsbabesrule 2 years ago
Boy, he certainly got much better at political commercials over time - the 1972 Nixon Now ad blows this one out of the water.
