Aside from the obvious visuals from Eastern Europe (see below, Estonia posing as Russia, or something like that), it is an homage/mash-up of specific topics PSB have hit on throughout their career:

(a) the setup is like a visual from inside that snow globe in "Numb" video, (b) the first part of the dance is staged like the rooftop scene in West Side Story, (c) the traditional and modern dance mixing seems to reference east meets west, (d) the disco sequence feels like ABBA via Madonna's "Hung up" video, and finally, (e) PSB barely appear in the video, referencing their partial desire to record as Pet Shop Boys but be replaced by younger pet shop boys.

I am sorry but you seem to be geographically challenged since ESTONIA IS NOT RUSSIA. Throughout our history we have been ''blessed'' with numerous conquerors: Danes, Germans, Swedes, Russians/Soviets. Yet Estonians are Finno-Ugric and their culture has very little relation to that of Russia. Try telling Greeks that Greece=Turkey.Point taken, I hope?

@muuke In this case, Estonia, only the location for shooting nature... as there are traces of Soviet identities... location filming the same could be any old buildings of the Soviet period in any country... and the fact that Estonia was chosen - just a pragmatic choice of financial directors crew or any other motive... such can be successfully done in London ... filmmakers are able to much:) suggest to watch video as it is, and not dilute the geopolitical debate ... To do this are other sites!

I don't particularly like the video, but not for (geo)political reasons. Just that's its weak artistically. Coreography was directed by Märt Agu, the partner of Mr Rebane, ie the guy who directed the video.They know Chris and Neil since these guys haev been rumoured to sometimes party incognito in Tallinn

Hallo! I also think it was the intention of the dirctor to bring Russia in one's mind, when you watch the video. I think both Russia and Estonia are much more beautiful than what you see in the video.

But it's very well done and I love to watch it all over and over and dream with the guy who works in the road and dances so passionately.

@talkedtoaflower They are trying so hard to please the bad taste of our time, with minimal effort. The song sounds like it was written in five minutes, including the lyrics. (The odd time-signature is a nice touch though, but that's about it.) This is so desperately aimed at a supposed target market - a teen audience - that it hurts. And that is embarrasing for an act that used to be subversive. As for the video, it is just clumsily executed.
