  • Yea,,,,, The Corsair was a real hot rod of an airplane.

    Power, Speed, Handling, Firepower,,,

    It Had It All.!!!!!

  • @1969captainron

I dont agree. Its from the TV series "Blacksheep Squadron".

  • no less than awesome

  • did the marines have b25s in ww2?

  • I believe its Dave Folks F4u-5

  • Black Sheeps theme song haha

  • Comment removed

  • Just to clarify a few things...this is an F4U-5 and it has 2,400 ponies under the cowl. A good buddy of mine is one of the owners of this beautiful piece of history and believe me, they treat it as such. The maneuvers shown in this video are not hard on the airframe. For more videos of flying with this Corsair check out my library

  • That WASP radial sounds beautiful. When i was a kid in the 70s I had 6 of them fly over my house in tampa ,where they were going I have no clue.

  • does anyone know how many of these planes still exist ? i thought there were about 20 of them that were static but i wasnt for sure how many were flying.

  • @aquatodabone 18 are still in flying condition possibly 19 since vought in stratford connecticut is trying restore an original vought corsair back to flying condition and it will be the only chance vought made corsair flying

  • @ztwan19 According to a list I found on Wikipedia (however accurate that is) there are at least 30 still flying & many more under restoration with a goal of returning them to flying status.

  • @4thstooge well i just hope all of them continue flying and those under restoration are able to make it to flying condition

  • @ztwan19 Me too, I saw one of the earliest F4U's @ the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locke's Ct (between Hartford & Springfield, Ma.) It was a non flyer on display.

  • @4thstooge that is a great museum i have been going there every year since i as about ten years old that musueum is the best kept secret in the state they have everything you can imagine i even got to sit in the f4u-4 corsair they have!!

  • @ztwan19 That must have been a great experience. I live in Rochester, NH Less then a mile from my house is our local airport, where a fully restored F4U (a later model Korean war vintage) is hangered. I have seen it fly over my house on it's way to air shows during the warmer months. I have also seen it up close.

  • @4thstooge You can see a video of this very plane here on YT look up " Corsair" (posted by propfan2k) The Corsair has a radar pod on it's right wing.

  • @4thstooge man thats solid im very lucky where i live Fairfield, CT and two towns over is Stratford where the Vought factory is and where these planes were made and every year they have what they call Corsairs over Connecticut and they bring in a few flying corsairs ranging from f4u-1A models to f4u-4 no -5s have shown yet. They also bring in other warbirds like the b-25 Mitchell and so on. The best is when the 4 corsairs last year all lined up and flew formation over Sikorsky airport.

  • hes a great pilot-just wish he'd tone it down a touch those airframes are old now

  • They take good care of old planes obviously, and there meant to be in fighter maneuvers. So i dont think any harm is being done, plus who wants to see an old fighter doing the same maneuvers as a cessna.

  • FW-190's would use up their entire supply of ammunition trying to bring down P-47's... Different aircraft but you get my point.

  • F22RaptorSquadron, STILL sometimes that wasn't enough to shoot one down! I saw an animation based on a P-47 pilot who got his ass blasted, and, engine burning, went spinning down. But get this!!! He managed to pull out and the engine fire extinguished, then he got unloaded on by an FW-190 ace and STILL managed to make it home!!!!

  • @F22RaptorSquadron Are you sure your information is correct? The BF-109 had a hard time against the "Jug" but the FW-190 used four cannons, not machine guns. Chuck Yeager published the story about how he was shot down AND how formidable the FW-190's armament was. He said "A fighter pilot never want's to be in the position to have to decide when to bail out, for me I had no choice, there was no plane left to bail out of." This was in reference to taking on 4 FW-190's head on.

  • @SRTST51 Depends on which Fw-190 your talking about. The Fw-190D was armed with twin MG-17 machine guns in the cowling and an MG-151/20 cannon in each wing root.

  • @F22RaptorSquadron They didn't waste their whole supply but they did not have that much ammo hence only enough for maybe two to three aircraft kills. It all depended on the pilot that was doin the aiming.

  • Where was the video shot?

  • The "computer" on board this craft was powered by brains, blood and guts!

  • Why not post it without the freakin' music?

  • cuz its better to just hear that radial roar

  • Because the Black Sheep intro music made the video!

  • i could not find it on youtube

  • what is the name of the song in the back ground plz respond

  • TV show Called Black Sheep. was about a WW 2 Marine outfit that flew these planes

  • That was an *AWESOME* show. It was suppose to be based on the real Black Sheep squadron but of course it was all TV fantasy. Nontheless, it was a great show to watch. I loved how the 28 year old commander was called "paps" because he was so old.

  • what is the name of that song

  • One of he better videos and also most exciting flight I've seen an old war bird make. Most guys just treat them gently. This pilot actually got it on for the crowd. Pretty cool!

  • I'm impressed with the pilot, that dude has skill.

  • Yeah nice vid but one thing that I can't for the life of me figure out! Why the hell do people go out to film these birds and get immersed in all the surroundings including the sounds and then put some stupid background loop over the top of the sounds of the planes. Just blows me away how many people here have done that, what a waste!!!

  • Nice job keeping up with the F4U-1D Corsair. That can be vert difficult to do with being so close to the airplane and also the speed of the airplane!

  • I heard that during Operation Desert Storm, the air force used old fighters like Corsairs and Mustangs because the sand had no fan blades to get caught in and no combustion chambers to muck up. Al they did was put Hellfire Missiles on them and they were ready for action. Don't remember if this is true, heard it a really long time ago.

  • Yea, and the infantry was issued bows and arrows because the sand fouled their small arms! And tanks were abandoned for camels.

The U.S. Navy even pressed the USS Constitution back into combat as the only sailing vessel left in service.

  • Geez...

I said that i HEARD it somewhere and I didn't know if it was true. It's perfectly plausible. A major problem in The War is sand in the turbines.

  • Even if they had wanted Corsairs and Mustangs, how many do you think the Navy and Air Force have sitting around "ready for action" 46 years after the end of WWII? They both saw action in Korea but they were obsolete the instant the MiG-15s took off.

These old birds were great for their time but their time is past.

  • I wasn't thinking. I just thought that the military would probably have some replicas for trainers, something like the Texan.

  • @ohbrother99 May I remind you the Navy Lt. Ira Kepford flew his Corsair F-4 against North Korean Mig-15 fighter JETS, and killed FIVE of them in one day!!!! Look it up if you don't believe me.

  • @RUSeriousnow umm you better look it up fella Ike Kepford flew in the Pacific with VF-17 shot down a bunch of Japs....Guy Bordelon flew a F4U-5 in Korea as a Night fighter and got 5 kills against Prop planes making him the only Navy ace as well as the only US nightfigter ace of the Korean war

  • @usselliot76 The book I bought at the Pima Air Museum in Arizona, (I rechecked it to be sure) claims it was Navy LT. Ira Kepford, who flew his Corsair against the North Korean Mig 15 fighters, and killed 5 in one battle. So what I wrote is directly from that book, and possibly THEY, may have erroneously published the wrong information. However, no matter WHO it was, the Corsair F-4U, did indeed fight against Jet fighters, and Did indeed whup some butt! :)

  • The F4U4 can out turn anything with the exception of brewsters, A6Ms(Zero or zeek), I16s and IL2s to name a few. A Spitfire could out turn the F4U but if flown correctly by the F4U pilot, the spit can be overtaken as well. However, ALL OF THE AIRCARAFT that could out turn the F4U had something in common. They didn't have much power to work with and the F4U could do a quick chandel to get them off its six. F4U pilots didnt have to worry about fighting a spit as they were British allie aircraft.

  • not a 1D is it? looks like a C due to the 20mm cannon barrel housings. COuld be wrong tho

  • they named F4U ''the whistling death''

    not beaufighter

  • need sexy subscribers! plz

  • by the way, the japs named the bristol beaufighter whispering death. also a real tough and mean old thing in its day. twin engined, with guns firing through the nose. very nice piece of kit.

  • "Japs" is kinda offensive...

War ended sixty years ago man.

  • get over it hindenboom. i dont get offended being called a limey, like an american wouldn't mind being labelled a yank, or an australian being called an aussie. japs "OFFENSIVE"? dont be so petty. maybe if i said, yellow skinned, slitty eyed rice munchers, then maybe. just. get a life my poor little friend. if you can.

  • I was just saying that it was USED as an offensive term. "Limey" and "Aussie" were made under more joking circumstances. "Japs" are what we called the Japanese to be offensive. Were were pissed off. And apparently, you're pissed off, too. If you get so angry over someone trying to make a point on youtube, you need to spend a little less time at the computer and more time outside. If you can find your door.

  • damned right i need to get out more mr hindenboom. please accept my apologies, i didnt mean to be so offensive to you, ok?

  • ok, whatever.

  • absolutely awesome warbird. after the spitfire, this must be the next prettiest warbird ever. what do you think?

  • most beatiful thing ive ever seen OH SHit my wife heard that

  • This looks like the F4U-5 variant, veeeery nice sounding pratt and whitney engine, and by the way, its a 4-bladed prop.

  • best fighter ever it shot down an mig 15 in korea :)

  • Just a treat and thrill to see, and hear, even on the tube, sure whish more planes survived like this, or look like this nowa days, would pretty the skies right up, just Beautiful!!!

  • I gotta agree....those planes are beautiful...i but i love to run outside to get a glimpse of the jets fighters flying over....especially at night...then all you gotta do is locate the red dot.

  • jeeeeeaaah she is a beauty!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Most feared plane by the Japs.

  • "Whistling Death", one of my all-time favorite planes! :^D

  • Great job on the video Tiwow! Beautiful Split-S he flew near the end of the routine.

  • WTH???? Is that thing sporting a 5 blade prop???

  • Also 2000 hp.

  • My favorite plane ever!! even down here in Chile we love the Corsair!!!

  • Great plane.

  • My favorite plane <3

  • ditto.her&the a-26

  • VMF-214! :))

  • Thank you for sharing that!!! I love the Corsair!!!

  • Quite a show, nice F4U-5!

  • Look out riceball,Pappy's looking for you

  • They should allow it to land on the Nimitz!

  • The plane the Japanese called Whistling Death!

  • I can hear the whistle!

  • The "Baa Baa Black Sheep" theme makes It a perfect Video.

  • Beautiful. Up-close video, passes down low. Excellent footage! Where did this take place?

  • It is either an AU-1, F4U-5 or 7 from the Korean war with WW2 markings. You can tell by the duel chin intakes. The F$U1 series had no chin intakes, The F$U$ and F$U$B had one chin intake and the 5 and 7 had duel intakes

  • The AU1 was a special version for ground attack with extra armour bellow and the oil coolers in the wings were angled internally for protection.

  • This is a F4U-5 not a F4U-1D.

  • ah, to hear death whistling once again -

  • ...where was this video shot?

  • Nice video, the filming is good and the sound also.

  • please tell me that wasn't music from "baa baa black sheep."

  • man i would kill to get a chance to get behind the stick of a corsair

  • Thanks. Good steady shots & nice showcasing of this aircraft. I love a Corsair, and you couldn't have chosen better music. :)
