i plan on rescoring this film for for my distinguished scholars project, how did you take the original score from this film and still keep the dialogue?
Wow!! I really like this, but somehow it wasn't quite...Narnian...
I agree that the original soundtrack on this moment could have been better, but on the whole Gregson-williams did a fantastic job of capturing the spirit of Narnia
Since I only saw the movie once, and didn't particularly remember this segment well, I went back and rewatched the original. Having done so, I have to say I agree with you. The original felt thin and relatively lackluster given the moment's importance. This is much more stirring.
Well, I'm flattered, but I'm afraid it's simply out of the question. I don't know that there is enough soundtrack music that would fit the whole film.
Actually, I thought Harry Gregson-Williams composed beautiful, enchanting music that was absolutely perfect for the movies. The music in this video was interesting, but not it didn't have a very Narnian feel. I give you credit for trying, but the movie's original score was far better.
I admit that was quite good, but I think the original score was just as good or even better. What complaints do you have against it? I thought it was just wonderful.
If you compare it, there is just no reflection of the glory and hope that Aslan's return indicates. It's the changing from very little hope to near-certainty. It's the victory of Aslan and free Narnia. Gregson-Williams' score didn't cut it. I'm afraid he didn't do much better with Prince Caspian. :-(
I used a program called Windows Movie Maker. The layering was tricky, and you can still hear portions of the old music coming through. Basically, I had to mute the ones where sound from the movie wasn't needed, and try to balance out the clips where sound (and thus, the soundtrack) was still coming through against the track I was pasting in.
I'm kind of a soundtrack connoisseur, and comparing this not just against other soundtracks, but against other soundtracks in the context of the film they were intended for, and the LWW score comes up short. His work on Shrek was pretty good, but he has a tendency to reuse his old themes, giving us few new tracks for the subsequent Shrek films.
Someone else posted a video of HGW's score for Kingdom of Heaven, VERY similar to the LWW battle score.
Now, I personally think that Harry did a great job on every song but for the resurrection scene. When I watched LWW on opening night, this was the only scene that didn't touch my emotions.
Your mix did the trick! This is the way the scene should have been. Good job.!! :)
I absolutely love the LWW soundtrack. But great job!!! The music gave me chills!

yeah, but the music kinda removes the awe-struck feeling, sometimes its better to be simple and quiet than grand

And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not:
Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
And cried with a loud voice, as when a Lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices.

The music fits perfectly with this scene. I don't know why they didn't use this one. National Treasure is sooooo old right now.
