Good upload! Really wish I could find some video footage of this! I can just picture Steve performing while singing all of these, the audience reaction is priceless! Oh, if fate had created me a little earlier in life, so I could have seen him perform live. RIP Steve!
Luckily, got to see Steve once - w/John P! Prob'ly the shortest musical giant in history. For an actual picture of Steve's joy, watch "Souveniers". (Steve & John together) The beaming streaming from his face through the solo break says it all. Thx for the post.
I never got to see him. I wish I'd had the chance. My parents went and saw him often. He's one of the reasons I became a musician. And though I like some of his studio stuff, I love his live stuff. So much fun, so much energy, great artistry.
Just discovered Steve Goodman tonight. Have read many comments on different artist in their day. I lived in a very remote area while growing up. Thanks for sharing your memories. Although I wasn't there then I can certainly appreciate it now.
This really captures Steve Goodman's crazy spontaneity on stage and his TOTAL ease with his audience, as if we're all just good friends hanging out, but one of us just happens to be a brilliant singer-guitarist-songwriter. A remarkable guy!
Thanks for posting this!!! I really regret that I was just a bit too young to have seen Steve in person. This piece shows me just how much I missed out on seening him live. When I can afford it, I am getting the DVD from ACL. That should be full of fun stuff.
Great post! His studio albums never really captured the "real" Stevie. It's live, spontaneous creations like this that remind me of just how talented a performer he was and how much he is missed. There's just no telling how much joy this world has missed out on in the almost 25 years since he died. If he was still around, Stevie would have had a field day writing songs about Blagojevich and the rest of the Chicago Pols.
I saw Steve play at Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City in the 70s with Norman Blake on the same ticket.
He was so good live.
RIP Steve.

No regrets here, saw him many times and to this day he leaves a lasting impression. BTW, the ALC DVD is an incredible record of his love for life!

I regret that too, being born too late, when the 20th century was almost over :(
Just tell me if you want me to upload something else, I have two albums full of great stuff just waiting to hit Youtube ;)

You are so right. Even though his studio recordings are, in themselves, quite brilliant, they never really come close to what he did live on a stage.
