I have a GTX 460 (PCIe 2.0) in a PCIe 1.0 slot. I get lag and poor picture quality when outputting from my video card's HDMI to my LCD TV's HDMI. Is this because of the 1.0 slot? I have checked and messed with all kinds of settings. I talked to another guy at Frys and he said that is likely the reason. Just wanted to get one more take on it before upgrading!

how do i determine my mobo with pci-e slots if its is pci-e 1 or 1.1 or 2.0? do they have difference in color? or in looks? or what? how do they differ and how can i identify?
would 2,1 work in 1.0, im talking about sapphire 5830 extreme (from overclockers) into M4N68T M LE V2 along with probs 4gig ripjaws or ocz 2/4 gig at 1333 ddr3, and phenom II x2 550(probs unlock to quad and oc to 3.6) will it work?
@MonakoBoy It is possible for some PCIe 2.1 cards (usually low-power ones) to work on a 1.0 slot. The main problem for those that don't work is probably because the motherboard simply cannot detect the 2.1 card. For most mobos, a simple BIOS update can fix this issue, but some older models that have not received an update in years will ultimately be unable detect PCIe 2.1 cards. Thus if anyone is considering upgrading to a 2.1 card into a 1.0 slot, check for BIOS updates for your mobo.

@VebSoulJa EXACTLY the same thing happened to me. Judging by this video I'm guessing it's not to do with the PCI Express version? But I'm still nervous about buying another one.
I'm Confused. I have an Abit IP43 Motherboard and on the box packaging it states and I quote: "New Generation PCI-E X16 (Express 2.0)" But the thing is, is that I downloaded Tech Power Up and it currently states that my ATI 4670 HD is on a PCI-Express x16 v1.1. Does this mean my PCI-E slot is not an actual PCI-E 2.0 slot and can't run the new 5800 series at all...?
hey guys can you help me? i am using a hd 5750 which is a pci 2.0 card, but my motherboard is 1.0a , it works, but am i getting lesser performance then i should get in pci e 2.0?
how does the HIS Radeon HD 5750 1GB do thru' tessellation? and performance in newer games (im not talking about crysis, every1 knows that game lags even on a REALLY power full card)
but the HIS Radeon HD 5750 1GB thu' DirectX 11 games? FPS?

Damn , I bought it already . I can play Crysis on HIGH 2xAA at 1280x1024 no prob at ~ 35 fps. Are you basing this on the fact that the PCI 2.0 is twice as fast as the 1.1, from what I know the HD 4850 wouldn't benefit that much from the 2.0 slot, you would barely notice an improvement.

if you need extra power and dont whant to buy a new psu. check for gxt dvd-rom bay sized vga booster psu. yes an extra psu of either 315-350 or 400 watts fully dedicated to your vga card.
and it use a single dvd-rom bay sized.
im planning a quad pcie im already at 2 cards. and 600 wats just not enough for 4 cards. but now i got a total of 1000 wats.
400 watts vga booster cost around 80$ so its pretty much worth it when you have over 450 watts psu's.instead of damping a 225$ for a 1000 wats.
This is about the only thing in a computer now thats forwards and backwards compatible. They need to do that to RAM and develop a way to run 2 types of RAM off same slot.
you ever thought about doing give aways of products you recieve to gain more comments views and subscribers by making them do certain things to get it? this could help bring in more ad revenue.

if you need extra power and dont whant to buy a new psu. check for gxt dvd-rom bay sized vga booster psu. yes an extra psu of either 315-350 or 400 watts fully dedicated to your vga card.
and it use a single dvd-rom bay sized.
im planning a quad pcie im already at 2 cards. and 600 wats just not enough for 4 cards. but now i got a total of 1000 wats.
400 watts vga booster cost around 80$ so its pretty much worth it when you have over 450 watts psu's.instead of damping a 225$ for a 1000 wats.

The 1.0 and 1.0a Are not compatible with 2.0 unless you have a proper bios update for it. Why didn't he mention that?

because if u r watching him u know this lol clearly you have proven this.

This is about the only thing in a computer now thats forwards and backwards compatible. They need to do that to RAM and develop a way to run 2 types of RAM off same slot.

Question: I have a kit of Crucial Ballistix Tracers 2gb 1066mhz and I just ordered a HD 4850 and there was a deal where I could get a Ballistix Tracer 800mhz kit for 20$ with it so I did it but now im wondering if they will run at 1066mhz with the same volts(2.2v) as my 1066kit..

Poor me and my PCIe 1.0a motherboard.
evildwarf 3 years ago
wrong, 1.0 isnt allways compatible with 2.0. i had a k9vgm-v motherboard which has pci-e 1.0 and it wasnt compatible with my 8800gt which is pci-e 2.0.

In some instances a PCI-E 2.0 video card will not work properly in a PCI-E 1.0a slot.
