OMG! I got the Unicorn and then accidentally ran away.... And I checked my inventory and the game let me keep it. Thank goodness, too, because I worked at it for an hour to get it. *sigh*

Any summons requires the field effect to be all that color. Just an FYI. Even for the mothership.
