@80sfanfreak There was some pretty tough competition that year. Al Pacino won the oscar for Scent of a Woman, but Denzel Washington was also a favourite for Malcolm X. I can't say for sure who deserved to win, since these three performances were all brilliant.
I didn't really know anything about Robert, and I've just been looking at his interviews on Youtube because I've taken a liking to a lot of his roles. He's inspired me, just through his movies, and after watching parts of this, he now inspires me as a person. He truly is a great man, I hope someday I'll be able to meet him and learn from him first hand.
Perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect. The smile, the gestures, the look, the way to answer without hesitating, that natural, terrible and tireless sense of humor, PER-FEC-TO. Only one fault I find this man: it is not mine ... should put an immediate solution. Cris
I know exactly what he means about humor coming in handy in a prison situation. My dad works in a prison, and I don't think he could get through his day without using his sense of humor to keep things calm and cool between his coworkers and the inmates. Humor is perhaps the best anti-violence and anti-depression tool you can use in a prison.
I love RDJ, what an amazing man! So cute, sexy and funny too---his wife is a very, very lucky woman!
Do explain. I mean, I get the feeling I know EXACTLY what you are referring to, BUT I have the feeling you can put it better in words. :) (Just so you know, I'm not attacking you.)
I'm just saying that he tends to be very exuberant, tries hard to create a diversion away from himself...But when you come down to it, if you listen to his jokes, you can tell that there's a lot of pain and darkness inside of him and he's just trying to move on and keep his head up.
I guess it's because I am not a big fan of black humour, but I didn't find a lot of his joking funny, I found it kind of tragic. He's an interesting guy.
I find it insanely tragic too, but then I get all confused because he says it with this kind of ironic smile on his face, so I fee like he wants me to smile, but it's all sad... I kinda wish he made it sad since the beginning so that then I wouldn't be confused and could get over it lol but I know he would not want to look self-pityingly. Actually, I think he'd hate it lol
I know these kinds of jokes so well because my father had such a... shitty childhood, but when he tells about it, you just have to laugh because it seems so unreal. And he's always laughing himself. He says it's the only way to get over it. I think it's pretty much the same here.
I was wondering whether you can turn on embedding for this video? I am trying to save this video just in case it gets taken down, and I can't get it to work if the embedding is disabled.
@foxestacado I don't know if you got a response that helped with saving a video off of YouTube like the Actors Studio interview of Robert Downey Jr. The easiest free way is to use FireFox 3.x (the beta 4 won't work with this method). On FireFox, get an add-on called Download Helper, which downloads what's playing on FireFox. Download the free Format Factory, which will convert the flv format into win media, quicktime, etc.
@iEatHAPPYPEOPLE Exactly, I see almost all of these actors speaking in interviews and they seem fake, like they're playing another role. RDJ, on the other hand really is a free, open man.

Figgis's "One Night Stand" is more than worth seeing, and Downey is devastating in it.
