I had rather hear them doing this song now than half the crap of today's top 40 rock or country....long live the Doobies......speaking of doobies...anyone seen my papers?
I "liked" this video, just because I have ALWAYS loved the Doobie Brothers,. However, upon watching it, I was SO disappointed. I still love the Doobie Brothers, but, this was not them.
@carouselcorner how do you explain Kidd Rock & Hank jr. IMHO it is the "sound" of a tune that makes the tune. To me this sounds much more "country" than a lot of the so called "country" music of today. I believe 75% of todays country music is PURE SHIT! Trace Adkins - "Whoop A Man's Ass" is a perfect example of pure country SHIT!
CUPanacea...You are correct on most of what you say, but the problem is I doubt the Opry could pay their bills with only traditional country in the world we live in today
@CUPanacea I suppose my point is that Country music is losing what's left of it's soul. The traditional music has been blocked, while "new" country is being promoted. The Opry was a place where traditional music was promoted and respected. Now they promote Hootie and the blowfish and endless non Country types. I don't have anything against Jazz, Disco or Techno, but they are not country.
Western swing, and Texas two stepping bands are fun, but "Western" is not country either.
@Vaultcracker2 Yeah, I agree with that. But, Western is not just the Texas 2-Step. (I'm also a musician). It's a culture-based music that comes from a mix of Appalachia, Folk, Gospel Hymns, Old Spirituals and Campfire songs. And it's Western, not Southern. Let's face it the old Appalachian music may have the roots of Country, but it far differs from even Classical Country. Blue Grass fits it more.
@Vaultcracker2 - but Big & Rich or one of a million others are?? LOL At least John can play fiddle and steel guitar... 9999-times closer that most of what shows up on this stage...
Cripes, that Roland sounds terrible on this song

This is not country Music
Vaultcracker2 1 year ago
@Vaultcracker2 No, it's Western/Mid Western-Southern. (Actually, this particular song is New Orleans/Mississippi Blues/Folk.
Why did "Country" drop the "Western" side of music? Like literal "Cowboy" ballads; and Folk??
Besides, the Grand Ole Opry is not insecure of diversity! Some music and musicians are so original, they can't be labeled.
