  • I remember them, aven;'t seen them since I left Boston in 1981

  • That's annoying...can't seem to post the link to the actual snowfall map from this storm.

It is on the National Weather Service Boston Office site if you are interested.

  • OK, I found it. This storm was March 5 thru 7, 2001. Still a very big storm, but it did not live up to the hype in southern New England

  • Very funny video. I'll have to find out when this was, but I remember this storm ended up being much, much less than advertised. About 12" maybe.

Comparing snow in the mountains of Utah with the snow in the cities of the Northeast US is silly. The impact difference is population. For information, google Northeast Snowfall Impact Scale.

  • This was great, would have liked an ending however like explaining just how wrong they were or at least providing the date I don't remember a storm in 2001.

  • As I recall, sometime after this disaster of a weather report, Schwoegler quit (most likely because of Mother Nature's refusal to cooperate and churn out the storms he kept claiming were coming, scaring the hell outta people with such reports).

Of course, he's also the one that said that the '78 blizzard wasn't going to be all that big a deal, too..

  • Mark Rosenthal working for channel 5? Was Dickie sick?

  • God I loved Bruce Schwoegler!

  • This makes weather disasters hilarious!

And I've lived my entire life in the Boston area! ;)

  • I'll start off, by saying that I did indeed live, through the Blizzard of '78. I was 7 years-old, the perfect age to enjoy all, of the snow; and all the while not really grasp how dangerous the storm was, at the time. The Blizzard of '78 is (and likely always will be) *the* benchmark, by which any New England snowstorm is measured. No single storm has ever even come close. The forecasts used, in this clip, ended up being recanted, as the severity they were calling for never matierialized.

  • 40 inches of snow HOLY HORSESHIT!!!!!

  • LOL it DOES seem we hear a lot of " The storm of the Century " these days yet Nothing rivals 78 in Boston eh

  • damn ppl are so full of jealousy and over weather? how pathetic

  • Very funny...living in Utah...I always laugh when the national news gets on to tell us about snow storms back East. I say: let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! We have the greastest snow on Earth here in Utah.

  • Snowstorms in Utah dont compare to MONSTER Nor Easters in the North East! Ya you get the heavy snow in Utah, but not only does the North East get the heavy snow, but the WIND!!! Try driving in zero visibility and 40 to 50 mph wind guests! Snowstorms in Utah are a JOKE compared to winters hurricane........a MONSTER NOR EASTER!!!!!! NO COMPARISON

  • Sorry...shows what you know about Utah snow. Utah has some of the driest snow on Earth. I worked at a ski resort here in Utah...not far from downtown Salt Lake City...sorry...I know exactly what it's like to drive up and down a canyon in a blizzard. Thank you very much! Sorry...been there, done that...made the t-shirt and gave it to you!

  • Im not talking about who has the driest snow. Im talking about more powerful and disruptive storms that bring cities at a stand still! Just look at the mid atlantic now! The heavy snow is only the half of it when you are dealing with winters hurricane ( Nor Easter) and the wind and the damage along the coastlines. You can have your boring snowstorms out in Utah, but dont try comparing your snowstorms to a powerful Nor Easter

  • By the way...speaking (writing) about wind gusts try experience a snow storm in Cheyenne, Wyoming. You think it's windy back east...or even Chicago for that matter? Cheyenne, Wyoming is the real windy city...eat your heart out Chicago...try driving in a snow storm there with 70 -100mph wind. Sorry...your snow storms are on the news because of population. There's not nearly as many people living in the Rocky Mountain states as there is back east. Get over yourself.

  • Your just flat out wrong! Next thing your going to tell me that Utah gets stronger storms than cat. 2 and 3 hurricanes, (lol) cause thats what Nor Easters pretty much are. Also its not uncommon for Nor Easters to have 80+ mph wind gusts. Now im not saying Utah doesn't get big snowstorms, which I know they do, but is whole different animal when you put the heavy snow and wind together. Nor Easters CRIPPLE cities and should be respected, which you dont!

  • It's not out of respect...we get as much snow...maybe not as much of wind but snow will stop a city if it's not removed. I am not going to tell you anything about wind. But why doesn't snow and wind cripple cities in the Rocky Mountain states? Again, get over yourself. Nothing looked very windy on all the major networks, the cable news stations or the weather channel today Try telling someone up in Alaska about your might storms and see how much they pay attention.

  • Now you want to talk about Alaska??? (lol) What hapened to comparing Utah? (lol) You know what is really funny, they give all thease powerful Nor Easters names, like Super Storm of 96, The Presidents day Storm of 2003 and now the MONSTER storm that just dumped 40+ inches in parts of the mid atlantic, the Snowmageddon of 2010. The funny thing is I never heard a name for a snowstorm in Utah?! lol. I think you better get over yourself! lol

  • Stop, just stop. Yeah, all those names are annoying. While the rest of the country deals with winter storms...back east gets all the attention. You act like you created the storm. You shoveled some snow like the rest of us. Get over yourself. You're not getting a medal.

  • Yeah, Utah doesn't need storms...our license plates exlain it all...Greatest Snow on Earth. We don't need dumb nicknames by dumb back east weatherman and weatherwomen to know we get a lot of snow.

  • Once again like a broken record, congratulations on having the greatest snow on earth, but thats not the issue right?

  • Yeah, and congratulations on your Nor'Easter. I hope you get to work on Monday. I hope they give you a medal when you get there too. Maybe a t-shirt that says, "I survived the 2010 Nor'Easter."

  • Who is the kid here? I think you cause with your lack of respect and knowledge about thease storms, I have to be talking to a child, cause you are just clueless! Thease storms we have get the attention, cause of all the DAMAGE and DISTRUCTION they do and you just dont understand this. So the main point of this nonsense conversation is, your poor little snowstorms in Utah dont get any respect and talked about like Nor Easters do and I DEFINITELY sense JEALOUSNESS, which I guess is understandable.

  • . Also can you please get me one of the shirts that say "Greatest Snow on Earth" I want to way it with my medal when I go to work on Monday.

  • Also just to educate on Nor Easters, cause it seems like you know nothing about thease type of storms, they ALL PACK WIND! They are coastal storms for goodness sake and have wind. It all just depends on the strength and deepening of the storm. Just show a little respect and if you wouldn't have made your original naive comment, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

  • Stop it with the "show some respect" B.S. Now I know I am talking to a kid and not an adult. We are talking (writing) about mother nature. Neither you nor I created the storm. Does that make any sense to you what-so-ever? Obviously not. This is not a sporting event, Kid. My problem is the entire country experiences snow and back east (every year) has all these stories like they are the only ones getting any snow. I understand 'it cripples cities.' Well, snow cripples cities out here too.

  • I was in college and living in Kenmore Square in Boston for the '78 blizzard, I wasn't impressed. The square only had 18-24" of snow, not exactly a big deal for someone from Up-State New York. Problem was it hit at rush hour and no one had the brains to head home early. Cars were snowed in bumper to bumper. No power or heat for a few days sucked but we had plenty of beer and other stuff stockpiled so it wasn't too bad. I forgot, no food for three days, that sucked too.

  • Be afraid... be very afraid!

Hahahahaha. I remember the 97 storm was nothing like the Blizzard of 78.

  • This was March 2001.

  • That was so funny. The people should get a emmy for this.

  • The dude on WBZ looks like Colin Quinn lol

I wasn't alive for the Blizzard of '78, but from what I understand, to say a storm would even come close to it is a bold statement.

  • lol. Ya gotta love local news. Think about it, the weatherperson during most parts of the year have nothing to get excited about. Usually it's hurricane season in the southeast, heatwaves in the midwest, forest fires in the west, and in the north blizzards. I guess it's all that pent-up energy during 'boring' parts of the year. lol

  • I really think it was the april fools day storm- it was a monday night/tuesday storm, which was the 97 storm 01 storm was sunday into monday, great video by the way, I saw this station for this storm I was 14 (I live in CT) They hyped this thing up huge!, it was a biggie

  • March 2001.

  • @bostonmediaguy I thought that the Boston area didn't get as much snow as projected, but I thought northern New England did get a historic snowstorm.

  • I've always loved blizzards...lol. Tides were a problem along the coast, but for me, it wasn't.

  • I'd like to know the date too... this obviously never happened... This wasn't the April Fools Day Blizzard, was it?

  • That was 1997, judging graphics, early 2000. Schwegoler retired late 2000.

  • Schwoegler retired in May 2001.

  • im pretty sure its the blizzard of 1996... Not 100% sure. :P

  • I love it! Do you have a date on this? I was thinking early 2001...
