  • A life to give back what God has given, invested into me, not even possible...

  • Nickel Creek is...amazing. "When You Come Back Down" is another great one.

  • This is THE MOST beautiful song I have ever heard! I am ex Army MP and seen a lot of things...but this and the love God, has made me seen how much I love him and our heroes over seas...Me, and most of all, Jesus loves you!!!

  • Great

  • My mom introduced me to this group, they make such wonderful music!

  • @rawkstarr89 Yeah they really are amazing and have some really amazing songs, only three instruments make up their band which makes them even cooler.

  • hayekiller i can sing very well

  • 8 people in this world are jealous haters!

  • Makes me think of my mother and cry. I don't even know why, she's alive and healthy. I just guess its the great puzzle of love and why it makes us do and feel things, even for no reason.

  • Awesome song, 've learned it on the guitar but still missing the mandolin and someone who can sing xD

  • does anyone know where i could find a karaoke version of this song?

  • This is an amazingly beautiful song.

  • 6 people just hurt their hands...

  • Great song. By the way, I don't understand why men have to add "I'm straight" after they admit that they cry at this song. I'm gay and I DIDN'T cry at this. Who cares? Neither crying nor being gay make you less of a man. It is how you live your life that makes you a man. So, guys, cry if you want to. It's ok. And learn to relax about the gay thing. We really are just men, following our hearts to find the one we love to create more happiness and beauty in the world.

  • @rob111674 Aww! Beautifully said! :')

  • this sounds like allison krauss singing

  • how do you even press the dislike button for this song? i dont understand.

  • @Swimmerandskier someone who is nearly blind with tears and clicks it by accident, only way i can understand it happening.

  • Thanks^^

  • hands

  • And I love my momma, America, and Jesus, if you have a problem with any of those things then you can just get away from me and save your breath, you're not gonna gain any hypotheticical "ground" arguing with me.

  • love Nickel creek I came a cross them a few years a go lighthouse tale made me cry love there songs

  • I love Nickel Creek. This song is so touching

  • this song causes man tears

  • Love this song!

  • oh my god... nobody judge me for this cause im a guy ... but this song is really pretty

  • @chanchan40k I think so,too, so don't feel weird.

  • @chanchan40k If men can't see beauty, they better give up living. The strongest men show they are capable of great beauty. So, don't think you're weak because you appreciate something beautiful...just ask your wife, or girlfriend.

  • @chanchan40k theres nothing wrong with how you feel. im a male and straight and i cried at this.

  • @chanchan40k OMG YOU'RE GAY-just kidding, i'm just screwing with you

  • horses and cats and nickel creek....favorite combination :) <3

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • I had a debt I could not pay. Jesus paid the debt that He did not owe.

  • a beautiful song with a beatiful message

  • This just made me think of how I don't want someone else to suffer for my own sins. If I become Christian, is there any way for me to reject this offer from Christ? It seems morally irresponsible of me to let someone else be punished for my crimes. Any pastors out there who can help me with this quandary?

  • @chessmeister - the beauty of Christ is that he died so that we wouldn't have to (the fair punishment for sin is death). It seems that it would be morally irresponsible to deny the offer from Christ because it's his offer to you for eternal life and joy with Him. Does that help and/or make sense?

  • @caedmonrwk7

It does help a little bit. I'm a little confused that you say he died so that we wouldn't have to, because we all still die... He suffered s we wouldn't?

And I feel guilty allowing him to be punished for the sake of my selfish desire for eternal life and joy. I'd rather suffer for my own crimes than let someone else take the fall, even if that act would result in great fortune for me.

I'm really not very knowledgeable in regards to Christianity, so thank you for helping me out.

  • @chessmeister Sorry- I wasn't very clear with "death": I meant eternal death- essentially, hell. I believe that is the just (fair) punishment for sin but Jesus died so that we could have a chance for eternal life (with God).

  • @chessmeister (continued) The cross brings feelings of shame, guilt, sorrow... and hope- the knowledge that we have a Creator, a God who loves us and who wants us to love Him in return for who He is and what He has done for us- someone who promises eternal life for anyone who accepts His love for them.

Does that help at all? Thanks for your patience!

  • You are right in a sense that it is "morally irresponsible" to let someone else suffer for what you have done, but this is a debt that you can't pay off all by yourself. That's why you needed Christ to come and suffer for your sins, which He already did. I guess you could say that you are already in debt to Him, and should pay Him back.

  • @lyonsote I know you didn't intend to insult me, and I truly appreciate your help. But would you please tell me what exactly I have done that has put me in such debt to God? I apologize if i'm being ignorant of your particular brand of religion, but i've never hurt anyone. What have sin have I committed that is so terrible that God feels the need to torture himself on a cross to forgive me? However, it has begun to make a bit more sense to me, thank you.

  • Sorry about the confusion, and I'm sure that you aren't a bad person. However, no one is perfect, and even if we don't do terrible things, we still do some things that seperate us from God. We can't return to live with God if we are have sinned... and isn't that the goal? To return to live with Him? He made it possible for even the worst of sinners to repent and be forgiven. That's why He suffered such excruciating pain. I hope that that helps a little.

  • Love the picture of Christ suffering for us! Thanks guys.

  • I absolutely adore this song. It brings tears to my eyes, every time I hear it. But, I love it! :)

  • Nickel Creek should reform so I can see the boy Hurt His Hand in concert.

What happens at the end of the song?

I don't get why it says:

It wasn't that long till our hero was gone, he gave to a friend what he learned from the cross.

Did he go to war in another country (A foreign affair, but our young men are there) and get killed after preaching to a friend?

Thank you Jesus for hurting your hands so that we may survive.

  • @DrBrothas

That part of the song is taling about the Korea war were Americans were sent to help Northern Korea and then he died in order to save a friend probably talking about being shot

  • @ninacub Thank's!

After I posted this, I remembered what Uncle Sam was after I posted that.

I thought it was talking about WWII.

  • Such a beautiful song.. Im glad Jesus "hurt his hands" for us. :)

  • when i read the lyrics and listen to this song at the same time, it makes me cry. every time.

  • if you like this one, check out Seven Wonders.

  • I remember falling asleep to this song. Best nickel creek song ever!

  • @wells0726880 That's a funny coincidence. I always remember falling asleep to Nickel Creek. For me it was usually the Lighthouse's Tale. But I love this song as well. I love most of Nickel Creek's songs haha. Anyway, the coincidence is that I'm going to sleep now, trying to, using Nickel Creek songs and warm milk to help. ;) Such peaceful music you know?

  • @OMGHAIGUYZZilybbq me too but we had a nicklecreek cd and we didnt even know it was theirs and we've had it for like.........8 years and we found out about 2 days ago

  • I've always loved this song. I will ALWAYS love this song.

  • Her voice is so pure! I love this song!

  • My absolute favorite Nickel Creek song!

  • I remember listening to this as a young child but now finding it, it brings so much memories and touches me.

    Beautiful!

  • One of the best songs ever... how could anyone listen to the words and not bawl like a baby?!

  • i did bawl like a baby.. o.O'

    ~*Cupcake-Chan*~

  • So did I.

  • TOO awesome pics & a good song! thnx 4 postin' this! (made my day!)

  • That was the most beautiful song I've ever heard… it sounds really cool

  • Love the song do you think you could make an instramental of it?

  • i absolutely love this song. i have 2 sya it is 1 of my fav. songs.

  • It almost sounds like the theme song for the tv series "Firefly" by J Wheadon.

Close, but I like this song better!

  • Hey Golfman,

The kid tries to pick roses for his mom and gets thorns stuck in his hands. The parallel is that the kid hurts his hands while doing something beautiful for someone he loves. It helps him to understand better how Jesus "hurt his hands" getting nailed to the cross doing something beautiful for the people he loves.

  • @buell41

    Beautifully said.

  • @buell41 exactly. perfect analogy of the song. it's just so freaking beautiful, is it not? i mean the concept of the child picking the roses for his mother, and then him understanding jesus. a lady sang this song at my church once, and the whole place was crying. because the music is sad, even if the lyrics are beautiful.

  • I might be too dense to understand the meaning behind this song but when they say "That's how he hurt his hand" are they referring to getting spanked?

  • same here -- this song is sort of ingrained in my ears (a good thing) cuz i heard it all the time when i was little...its also weird cuz i didn't really know what it meant so i ignored alot like the part about uncle sam so now its like there's new parts...kinda cool

  • this always makes me think of my mom. theres a relationship there that you cant break.

  • This song clams me down...I love it, its so sad but it always makes me feel good and happy inside...I had a rough day at school...But it ended well with a kiss from my Little Red Rose....(^_^)

  • wasnt this also sung by a man? who sang that?

  • Not sure. This is Sara Watkins singing it here.

  • Sara Watkins and probably either Chris Thile or Sean Watkins. That's Sean on the guitar

  • this is one of the most beautiful, yet sad songs I have ever heard. it is about love of all kinds. a real tear maker but you have to listen again. i don't know anyone who has heard this song and has not been affected.

  • i cried the first time i heard this song. this song rocks it is one of the best it has a lot of meaning and that why it is so good! i love this song!

  • I love this song. Beautiful!

  • i love this song!

me and my dad always listened to it together.

i didnt know they broke up):

they are so good together tho.

THEY NEDD TO GET BACK TOGETHER!!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful song - absolutely beautiful.

    thank you!

  • can someone explain to me what this song is about?

  • the little boy the song is talking about wanted to show his mother he loved her. but the roses he picked for her hurt him with their thorns. it goes on to say he understands jesus' love for us through the wounds in his hands, just like the little boy's. when the boy grows up, he wants to get drafted, to show his love for his country. but he dies. and it says its a love his friends and family can understand.

thats what the song is about :]

  • ("moved out on his own when uncle sam comes along/a foreign affair but our young men were there and luck had his number drawn") I don't know how you get that he wants to be drafted from those lyrics. It's saying that he died in service but it wasn't in vain because he still left behind to a friend that love he'd discovered as a child. The song is about someone being drafted into Vietnam and dying in action. it's nothing to do with "Patriotism", as Jesus preached PEACE and LOVE above all else.

  • well i am so very sorry for interpereting a line differently. the 'luck had his number drawn' just crossed me as saying that he kind of wanted to off and fight for his country out of love. my uncle died in vietnam, and i know that he was HAPPY when he was sent off. thats just the way i saw the lyrics

  • Such a sweet song.

  • its the most beautiful songs ive ever heard it opens your heart right there i hope they didnt break up

im usin my bro so im a grl =)

  • This is so.. depressing. Yet beautiful. ;;

  • My ex girlfriends, best friend who I fell in

  • i'm sorry :(

  • Comment removed

  • oh my gosh they broke up? im way behind, srry, but i love them... and their songs are so deep, like this one and lighthouse and stuff...

  • well their final tour was called "farewell for now" (or goodbye for now or something like that) so i'm guessing they plan on getting back together at some point.

  • i think they just needed a brk

  • Yeah, one of the boys (I forget which one) wanted a solo career. Quite frankly, I haven't liked a single song he's come out with by himself. He should go back to them.

  • Chris Thile went on to join The Punch Brothers who are AMAZING! I went to see them and it's just unbelievable what they can do. You should go see, you'll be converted!! But they should get back together! Sara and Seán are also touring but just America, I think, but I could be wrong :]

  • how do you play this song on the guitar? i need help!

  • my band does this song times...its really easy to get choked up.

  • this song makes me cry, it's so beautiful.

  • I wish they'd get back together..

    They were so great.

At least we have these wonderful songs from them. :)

  • i sing this song 2 myself all the time... But i'll never be as amazing as Sara :)

  • I do tooooo. This is the song i sing in the shower at the top of my lungs.

  • I sang this for my last music exam in school and the examiner and supervisor really liked it, asking who the band were and said they'd love to get the albums! Hehe two more nickel creek fans in the world ;]

  • Beautiful song and beautiful video.

  • I wish they wood reform. it's such a pitty.

  • would* @jofrank18

  • @jofrank18 yes and no. I wish they would get back together but not at the cost of getting burned out. I think too many bands do that then they loose the good name that they have made for themselves

  • @nimrod4017 I agree. Nickel Creek was fantastic band, but the band is greater than the sum of it's parts. Each of them is still making amazing music and expanding their musical horizons. Bittersweet, but it's a good thing, I think.

  • really amazing song.

  • one of my friends is singing this song the other one is dancing to it..such a beautiful song

  • i love her voice! it's peaceful. this is one of my favorite song's.

  • what a lovely sentiment -it makes tears come to my eyes

  • Hahaha. Tell him that everyone on Youtube here thinks he's superawesome.

  • pass my greetings to that awesome guy from morocco

  • Will he come to my home? Hehe

  • Ricky T-T...I didn;t know this song...what a lovely song...I am the biggest sucker for acosutic guitar ...as if you haven't guessed...:)

  • I absolutely adore this song, thanks for posting!I wish they would come to Ireland for a concert...dunno i they've ever been...

  • They came a couple of years ago and played in Crawdaddy in Dublin.. It was easily one of the best if not the best concert I've ever been to! It was very intimate, maybe 200 or so there but oh my god they were amazing! Well worth it... Hope they come back :[ Also went to see the band Chris Thile's now in, The Punch Brothers in Sugar Club and they were unreal. Those two concerts are the best I've seen. The talent is like nothing I've seen before!! :]

  • i love this song !!!!:) ♥♥♥♥

  • WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SLIDE SHOW AND SONG! This song is so touching and so beautiful! Thanks Nickel Creek for all you have done for the music world. YOU GUYS ROCK!

  • it gave me goose pimples.

we are singing this as a choir at our school choir.

    it's lovely

  • they let you sing a song at school with mention of a Bible in it? Good for them! Im not religious but I think a lot of or problems in this Nation stem from lack of teaching a some sort of higher power to the kids as they are growing up. Gives them something to help keep them on the right track.

  • this song gave me goose bumps the first time I heard this. Nickel Creek rocks!!!

  • i went to one of one of there gigs and was all dissapointed cos they didnt do this song...i love it so much...btw i met them and they were super nice
