Next time you edit a lightning video - try,. TRY not to cut a lightning sound mid-way through, it ruins what would otherwise have been a cool video. Would have been 7/10,. but you lose 2 points for p*ss-poor editing.
The storm which you recorded came over from northern france, in the channel it developed into a supercell briefly and dropped a small f0-1 tornado as it hit the coast near brighton. As it moved 5 or 10 miles inland it lost power and turned into a strong multicell storm. This is why there was so much lightning and continous thunder rolling.
@charliegaze We don't often get storms on that magnitude up here in NW Hants either. I think it's because we're situated in a valley, and they tend to go around the edge. Get one trapped in the valley, and boy do you know about it!
That afternoon I'd been in Folkestone. I stood on the seafront and saw that coming and knew it was gonna be a bad one. I got back to Thanet in time and it was bad - interesting to see just how bad it was in the part of Kent that is always hit by the strongest storms from France!
ahhhhhhh this was sooooo nice to watch... i love our uk weather.....it makes me cold to watch yet im all snuggly warmed up inside....i love the rain....
Very nice capture here, my friend, of the different stages of the storm's approach. Just one thing I wanted to point out, but the cloud that was closing in at about 0:35 was not a wall cloud, but rather the shelf cloud of the storm - wall clouds are essentially an "accessory" cloud that extends below the base of the shelf cloud and is indicative of a persistently active mesocyclone, which may be a precursor to a tornado.
still remember this storm lol my mums just told me that once it was like this every night for five months in Malaysia I imagine it was probably the height of the storm season
Never seen anything like that in the UK before, bet it was awesome as well as p[retty scary - my son lives in Folkestone and he NEVER mention this at all!
i cant lol im not in malaysia anymore we came back when i was 4 we do have some on video tapes but i dnt think you can get from videos onto the computer lol yeah i heard the storm last night it was really cool! =) i got a great view out of my room i always watch em no matter what time they start
wow!!! you dont often get storms like that here! but if you do want them go to kelantan in malaysia i lived there for two years we flew out when i was 2 you used to get exactly that every night for five hours! i was scared at first, but once i got used to it i watched it all the time! its amazing!
Thanks for taking the time to comment on this video! Funny you should say that, becca, as we had another one last night (at time of typing this) where a thunderstorm had dumped 60 mm of rain in the space of an hour! It's been a very eventful summer for storms. I can imagine Malaysia do get some really beefy ones regular, do you video any of them as I would like to see it!
Them seagulls had a lotta balls flying around.Lo.

Well luckily I'm from the north-west of Kent in Orpington and we don't often get big thunderstorms like this.

Great vid. That continual growl of thunder was quite scary!
I made a very short video of a storm from my bedroom a couple of years back and was always surprised to freeze the frame and see pink lightning.
