Was your tripped shadowed by a minder? Or are you allowed to walk around freely nowadays? Believe it or not, at one time, no one was allowed to these areas. I'm wondering if I should visit Yunnan province when I come there.
@jephboy I think it has been a very long time since they stopped making it mandatory for visitors to have minders on their trips. There is absolutely no problem going anywhere on your own in 99% of China though it's possible that there are some more sensitive areas where this might still occur, not sure. China is a lot more free than most people think. Yunnan is great too.
no someone had die so they weair white clothses so don't even say it because my family wear it too and it so wear i gonna show you the video when i turn 16 XD lol
Great video clip!!! I identified myself as a Miao-American. I would love to visit the Miao brothers and sisters in Yunnan and Guizhou someday in the near future.
I'm sorry, didn't realize it was bad to say miao, but how can we say in Chinese language? Hmong and Moog cannot be pronounced in Chinese and would not be understood.
i know. Miao was the name that was given to us by the chinese. and if i'm not mistaken the name miao is related to a cat not too sure how did we get the name miao... but FYI if u should run into any hmong people outside of china, u should called us Hmong... anyways i love ur clip of the hmong chinese...
yea... u no i was hoping to heard alot on hmong chinese people talking in ur clip cuz, the dialet of the hmong chinese and the southeastern hmong is different... we are from the same branch but it is due to isolation of region that cause our langauge to change... hmong chinese i think are the original of the hmong language...
Just to clarify, Miao refers to "weeds" or grass that grows "krazy". Not cats. People who say it refers to cat don't know their history, because that doesn't even make sense. One theory is that Miao were given the name because they couldn't be exterminated, like weeds. Chinese have indeed been trying to engineer genocide for over two thousand years, obviously without success, so if a Chinaman calls you Miao, wear it like a badge of honor... because they can't kill you!
Excellent video. Thanks for uploading it. Curious...what type of camera are you using. Great quality, and although it's more a hallmark of the shooter rather than the equipment, excellent stability. Not shaky at all. Very cinematic and entrancing to watch, it felt like a Terence Malick film.
Thanks a lot! Glad you like the video. I was trying to be a lot more stable on this trip on purpose because if you watch part one of this vid I shook a lot and really noticed it. It seemed to work out. I'm using a sony dcr-pc350. More to come soon!

Now that I know I will respectfully do that. By the way, 'cat' in Chinese is 'mao' not 'miao'

You can't have planned some of these shots that turned out so beautifully, and are all the more amazing for being impromptu:
The empty street. Then the tourists come into view from nowhere and overtake you.
Smoke-filled view at the end of the funeral procession, and just out the corner, the hot pink jacket of young woman makes a crossing.
German woman trying on the head ornament backwards.
Those goofy balloons.
I liked it a lot--you're a natural. Thanks for emailing the link. ----L.L.
