@NthDegreeX10 No, the show is about the characters. The mobile suits are merely a tool of the characters. It's always been that way. This is not Mazinger Z, where the story revolves around the super robot beating the enemy every time. This is Gundam, where the story is based on the struggles of the characters to deal with the hell they've been thrown into, and protect each other, and survive.

The Gundams are just a bonus if done right.

Actually Loran ain't gay there was just flaws in the series. Originally the creators were going to break the norm and make the protagonist a girl(the original Loran) unfortunately some faggot told them to make it a guy because people wouldn't watch it if the protagonist is female. The series was also trying to link all of the other Gundam series' at the time which was a nasty fuck up.
