  • agree with Archie...Edith bought the ticket with her money...the $500 is theirs...case settled...))

  • @Pauly69s Edith really pisses me off in this episode and Mike and Gloria are useless...lives off Archie...sorry but I'm pissed off tonite...baaaad day...

  • I actually agree with Archie. If Edith bought the tickets with their own money, then it is the Bunker's tickets, not the Jefferson's. I really dont know why Edith thinks it is not their ticket when she paid for it with THEIR money.

  • @69ChevyCamaro100 She thinks that because she never would have bought it had Louise not requested it. If she had given the ticket to Louise, and Louise hadn't paid her, I would agree with you. If they had both remembered the ticket, and she had given it to Louise and collected her $2, it wouldn't have been an issue at all, although it would have been nice of the Jeffersons to offer to share the winnings as thanks for the favor.

Oh yeah...they did that, didn't they?

  • Legally it's Edith's ticket since no money ever changed hands. Now morally - that's another matter. I liked Louise's idea to split. Seems not only fair, but neighborly.

  • Archie: "I ain't never been to Africa!"

Henry: "Neither have I and THAT'S your fault too!"

    Gosh, this show was CLASSIC!....

But truthfully, Archie was right. There was no money exchanged & Louise had forgotten about the ticket all together. Edith wasn't being honest (she hadn't collected money & forgot to deliver), she was being foolish.

  • It's not about the money, Edith is just too dumb and she never listens to Archie. So I would leave her based on principle not about the 500 dollars.

  • $500.00 in 1972 had the same buying power as $2,666.41 in 2011.

  • "Janett's dress and lingery shop, jeez that's a hell of a win fall for me" hahaha Archie is a riot.

  • I'm actually with Archie on this one. Edith bought the ticket with her own money, so it's her ticket and her money.

  • Complete dingbat!

  • I'm surprised Archie didn't have edith get a job to pay him back for her idiocy.

  • @mademoiselle79 That's so fucking RUDE! They are human beings, not animals! What if you grew up like a lot of them do? Poor, uneducated, struggling to survive, wondering where your next meal is coming from and if you'll have a safe place to sleep that night? And you wouldn't turn to crime in order to survive? BULLSHIT! Try walking a mile in their shoes before you judge them and call them "gorillas"! Stupid racist bitch! No wonder they hate us white people so much, because of haters like YOU!

  • sorry mr jefferson im white and i never to africa either so thats 0 for 2 me and archie

  • well i got em already so what the hell you hollering about lol

  • Archie was actually right regarding the winning ticket.

  • Louise should have suggested they split the winnings, Edith is suppose to be her friend. Oh I guess she did suggest that....thats what they should have done.

  • Louise should have suggested they split the winnings, Edith is suppose to be her friend.

  • @toddcharry That's what I said. :)

  • It's absolutely astonishing to me how many people don't get that the character of Archie was meant to be satirical. Sure, Mike's character did the same on occasion, but Archie was never meant to be a pillar of ethics to emulate. Educate yourself about American culture in the early 70s and get a f*cking clue.

  • @smartypantsnyc You are right about Archie being written as a charicature of conservatives. They could make him funny. It has been said they didn't take the same approach with Maude. When she speaks on an issue, her views are taken with absolute seriousness. (The one exception is where his liberal ways are harpooned where says race has nothing to do with replacing Florida. Writers have said that, if Maude had been made more cartoonish, the show might be as funny as All in the Family.

  • It doesn't matter if Edith put her own money down. Louise was going to reimburse her so still it's Louise's ticket. You gotta be able to trust in someone's word! More people should be as honest and trustworthy as Edith. She's not a "moron" or "wrong" here. She has to answer to her own conscience and if she didn't do the right thing, it would bother her heart forever.

  • @librarianlovesrick And when Edith is sitting alone in that run down home scrounging to pay the electric billl, eating generic brand cereal, watching the Jeffersons go out for dinner and dancing, she can console herself that she did the right thing.

  • @snowden67 That's the problem with the world today, there are way too many dishonest people like YOU in it! You would probably rob your own mother with those ethics! What a douche!

  • Yea thats Henry Jefferson, Georges brother. The story was he wouldnt step foot in Archies house, so theyd send Henry over instead. George eventually became part of the show and Henry disappeared after, so they mustve been looking for the right George.

  • Its simple, just split the money 50/50, problem solved! Selfishness is a killer.

  • @FightingForFreedom23 --Problem solved in real life but it would have made one heck of a boring show!

  • uh that is not Mr Jefferson. Who is that fill in??

  • Comment removed

  • @jaroncreed That's the OTHER Mr. Jefferson. The one you know is named George. This guy introduced at 1:25 is Henry Jefferson, George's brother. I believe his first appearance was when he and Archie had a discussion about God, and what "color" he was. The two traded "bronx cheers" at the end.

  • edith is a retardo

  • Edith is the biggest sweetheart ever on tv, ever.

  • Archie "suppose you had the tickets and I come to you, what would you do?"

Jefferson " I'd give em to you!"

Archie " well I got em already so what the hell you hollering about !?"

lmbo one of the funniest lines ever lol

  • Why's Henry blaming Arch for not being able to go to Africa? Planes head that way every day.

  • archie at :58 hahahahah

  • @princev11 haha!

  • She must be a dingbat, look who she married.

  • down down down LOL, I love Archie

  • True that, but hey, it's free money, I aint complaining.

  • Damn, if I had a winning ticket worth $500, there's no way I'd give it up to anyone, even if it is someone else's!

  • Uh, it's nice to know your true colors...

  • this is so funny!!!

  • "You've been cheatin' us for 400 years!?!", and the speech about white people stealing, etc. what a demented victim mentality...that should have been left out, otherwise a great episode! Thx for posting all of these.

  • At 2:59, Jefferson refers to Africa as a country. Africa is a continent.

  • @dannyboy211 just proves archie even more about their intelligence hahah

  • I think they should split it

  • edith is a dumbass

  • nevermind! peace and love

  • for being at Germany in 1930

  • are you for real???

  • i just watched a documentary on attila the hun. people can justify anything. archie certainly knows when he's getting ripped off.

  • If she wasn't thick she would have given the ticket to the Jeffersons 10 months ago.

  • giving the ticket over is the nice thing to do, but not necessarily ethical or moral to do. him keeping the ticket because it was his money that paid for it is reasonable.

  • Sometimes Archie was right.

  • shes so honest people in this present age cant recognise what honesty is and its only tv

  • thats edith for you

  • If only Bunker should have kept his bigot mouth shut in the first place, he could have accepted the Jefferson's share.

  • The blacks were sold to the whites by black slave owners.

  • Information which people intentionally decide to neglect to mention, unfortunately.

  • Technically, the ticket really belongs to Edith since she used her own money to buy it.

  • @UofLCardFan08 Fortunately, Edith knows the difference between 'technical' and 'moral'

  • @UofLCardFan08 Not really, because Edith would've never even bought the tickets if it wasn't for Mrs. Jefferson asking her to. I think Mrs. Jefferson should just split the money with her, because Edith is so sweet and honest though. I would.

  • @UofLCardFan08 excatly i would keep the ticket

  • @UofLCardFan08 But if Louise gave her the money for it then it does belong to Louise. Anyway, Edith was such an honest soul that she never would have kept the ticket to begin with!

  • @UofLCardFan08 But she wouldn't have bought it if Mrs. Jefferson didn't ask to to buy it. A promise, is a promise.

  • thanks junk

  • edith is the big moron this time.

  • @theygotwhattheydeser Yeah, Edith was truly a dingbat this episode.

  • Wow, morals sure have changed since the '70's if most people think like theygotwhattheydeser and americastan...
