You have pushed the AR platform pretty hard - have you come into an instance when you chose to use the forward assist instead of racking that sticking round out for the safety and, hopefully, better operation of the next round?
The debate that I've read is that it was implemented for sub-standard ammo used during Vietnam, and if a casing is going to jam... why shove it in there in the first place? (the question would be addressing why we are still building AR's with the FA if that is the case)
@Spearfisher1970 There are a number of reasons why a cartridge wouldn't fully chamber (even with quality ammunition), and why the FA is useful, as opposed to striping it out and charging with a new round. The best is simply it's a lot faster to jam on the FA than it is to operate the charging handle as a first attempt.
Also, the FA can be used to put the bolt into battery very quietly, whereas racking with the charging handle is quite noisy by comparison.
@Spearfisher1970 I get rid of the round and personally think the forward assist is "nearly" useless. What you've read is correct, it was originally designed when AR's didn't have chrome lined barrels, etc... ~ Bryan
@ITStactical Which is why I'm thinking my next build will have everything but the place for the FA molded into the upper (if they are still making flat-top uppers that way by the time I am ready to build... with this economy choices like that may go away).
@TechnoZombie That's definitely a way of going about it and we address that in the written article you can find linked in the description of the video. Thanks! ~ Bryan
One of the best ejection port cover installation videos on YouTube, really helped me with the spring as I had no idea how to install it.

@ITStactical if the spring breaks could you just take the c clamp off then just slide the bar out? Or would you have to take everything apart

@silvermediastudio Yep, quiet loading is a benefit too. That's also mentioned in our article. Thanks for the comment! ~ Bryan

Why don't just take de C-clip off to replace the spring instead of taking down the gun?
