You fanboys need to stfu. I like the Star Trek genre too but not everyone shares your like of it. So in other words, you get butthurt whenever someone dislikes something you like. And like it or not Star Trek 2009 was a good movie.
@TheMeanConservative1:09 is actually from the series enterprise and 0:45 is from an episode i for got the name of but he is captured and another picard replaces him on the enterprise....
Hey everyone, remember that scene in Star Trek Generations, right after Picard found out his whole family got killed in a fire? Riker stormed up to Picard on the bridge, in front of the whole crew, and was like, "Your whole family got killed? You're nothing but a French faggot, JEAN LUC!" and then bitch slapped him. Piard sulked off the bridge, knowing it was true, and then everyone agreed it was Riker's turn to be captain? No, that didn't happen in the movie?
GeneralGin, which episode is it where all those Datas are putting that object in to the pillar of light? I want to watch it again, because I don't remember it.
@randomperson1701 Yeah i mean seriously, why choose someone to make a film that has such a loyal following that didn't even like star trek in the first place. The latest star Trek film is the only one i dont like.
Telling from the ending, I assume the mental strain involved with his battle against the forces of CONTINUITY IGNORANCE in Star Trek 2009 resutled in Picard's outburst. or maybe he was just being typical Recut Picard?
@mairujyat it's actually because Wesley was killed in an earlier Recut, but because the time line was reset he was suddenly alive again. that's why Picard screamed no when he saw him
@mairujyat You have no understanding of Star Trek. It was an alternate timeline created by interference from the future of the timeline in TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager.
I was just thinking about this entire series, and about Picard's words at the end of the TNG episode "Emergence". He says that if the life form was made of the sum of the Enterprise and it's crew's experiences, and those experiences were honorable, then would not the life form be honorable? Watching these proves that if taken out of context, it can actually be quite evil.
Lmao, loved how you included the other Star Trek series at the start! I loved the new film when I first saw it, but then I started watching TNG, DS9 and Voyager, and I didn't like it any more. Love what you did with jj! =)
What I don't understand is how the Star Wars prequels are almost universally panned for dumbing down the franchise, selling out to the lowest common denominator, relying too heavily on CGI, and having poorly-written scenes of flat exposition that make no sense, and then "Star Trek 2009" finds almost universal praise and acceptance. HOW?!?!?!?
@SothManigan The only theory I can offer is that the new Trek film didn't have Jar Jar. Oh... Nevermind. I just realized what Abram's "J.J." stands for....
@MozTS haha, the movie had no strength, no spine, and no story. It was all just mindless old overused quotes and commercials, unrealistic physics, and teen troubles raped by one lame effect after another.
When I go to the toilet and take a dump, I can improvise better and more exciting scenarios to the sound of my own shit hitting the surface of the water in the bowl, lol :p
If you did enjoy the movie it is unlikely that you enjoy Star Trek though, as they are worlds apart.
@SothManigan Because expectations for Star Trek had been dropping from the end of TNG... DS9 may have been a good show (from season 3 onward) and VOY/ENT sent them through the floor.
Not to mention Star Trek XI was... well, a reboot. It was a big dumb action film that pretty much went "Yup, we're straight up straddling continuity and raping it - WHATCHA GONNA DO?!" But you know... as a big dumb action film it worked. The Star Wars Prequels were big and dumb but they made no sense.
@ProphetTenebrae I'm just curious, why does everybody hate on VOY? To me it was more hit or miss than a totally bad series. Some of the episodes were awesome, like the Q who wanted to kill himself or the one with The Void or the planet with the fast timeline that made Voyager its history. A lot of them were just bloody awful like Threshold and Drive and Alice.
@gussiejives 500 characters isn't really enough to explain it well but... I think it can be summed up with taking TNG - which had already run its course - removed all the likeable and familiar characters from it and then just put the crew away from everything Trek had spent so long establishing.
Sure, there were good episodes but stuff like running the Borg into the ground and Janeway's Mary Sue powers made for a show that a lot of people hated. Would that I could go on at greater length.
@ProphetTenebrae Nah, I can see what you're saying. A lot of the characters were just more irritating versions of their TNG counterparts, like Neelix and Kim. But I did enjoy the way Paris, Seven and the Doctor grew as characters over the series. The Doctor in particular had some good episodes.
Sadly there's always the occasional Threshold that throws a wrench into the works. Yes, warp 10 causes Paris and Janeway to turn into lizards and have sex with each other. Well done, Voyager.
@gussiejives I think the Doctor's growth as a character was by far the best - but then they toss in some episodes like "Virtuoso", "Renaissance Man" and "Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy" which kind of piss all over it.
Threshold is probably not just the worst Voyager episode there ever was but one of the worst (if not THE worst) Star Trek episode and in terms of TV... it's probably pretty high on the list too.
@SothManigan Well the idea was that Star Trek 2009 had at the very least a coherent storyline and some actual character conflict in it. I'll be up front, I enjoyed ST 2009, even if the cost was the timeline of the rest of the franchise.
@SothManigan It's because Star Trek 2009 didn't feature a cartoon rabbit or Anakin Skywalker getting his face melted. Coming up next: Star Wars recuts.
Let me see if I can explain this. The SW prequels featured several bad actors, one of which was a main character. ST09 did not. SW had idiotic humor. ST didn't. SW had serious misunderstandings of its own characters' arcs. ST didn't. SW did not pay homage to its predecesors but rather tried to exploit them. ST did do the former and not the latter. Is that a good enough explanation for you?
@stitch99 No, the only thing Star Trek '09 has is a complete lack of understanding for the universe Gene Rodenberry created
The new Star Trek is related to the other movies and series in name alone, almost everything was changed to make it fit in with the new idea of science fiction as being all about action and nothing to do with the characters and their development or actual real life issues
I actually enjoyed the movie and thought it was a fine modern adaptation of classic Star Trek. It did the right thing by focusing on the characters, adapted some entertaining special effects, and had a well picked cast.
There have been plenty of outright terrible Star Trek films. This new one isn't one of them.
@CyberGlitch While I totally agree with you I can still appreciate the humour. And I'm sure JJ Abrams has big enough shoulders to take it, too. Trek won't be his last movie and he'll go on to do other things. But to many he'll always be to Trek what Pontius Pilot was to Christ.
You Gotta Put That AssHole From "Mr. Belvedere"(80's Show) Into StarTrek SomeHow.... Splice Him Up With Scotty And Have Him Complain About "Wesley".... YOU GOTTA!!!
