I agree. He held his own here. His defense was just as good as his offense, and he can sell. That backbreaker-lariat combination that Silas did was awesome. Though, Aries whooped his ass. Great matchup!
then this match was followed by 10 min of Age of the Fall storyline, totally negating all the hard work Silas Young just did with Austin. i didn't remember this match, this the storyline stuff afterward.
The brainbuster not only knocks a guy silly but does a lot of damage to the neck. Aries finisher does look a bit like a choke it also looks like A LOT of tourque is being put on the neck area too. I dunno, just my take on it.
The same thing used to bug me about Joe when he was using the musclebuster as a set up move for the rear naked choke. Not only was it pointless, but it stole the thunder away from the musclebuster, which is supposed to be devasting.
The best always utilize moves to their fullest potential. It would have created a heck of a lot more drama had Young kicked out of the brainbuster and fallen victim to that crossface in some sort of short late comeback exchange.
I really don't get how Young kicking out would salvage the alleged lost credibility of the Brainbuster. I don't see either the Muscle Buster or the Brainbuster as looking inferior when chained to a submission, I just see it as sort of a setup, and I'm sure when Aries initially started using the Chancery he connected it via the Brainbuster to signify that this is his new finisher, but, like Joe, noticed how awesome the two work off of one another.
Good point. I agree with you. The Muscle Buster and Brainbuster are two very devastating manuevers. So when Joe or Aries lock in their submission after their big moves, you know that the opponent ain't goin' nowhere and the end is near. I still like Aries using the 450 splash because it's such a cool move to watch but I think it makes more sense for the Chancery to follow the brainbuster. It's just an awesome combination of moves that makes sense.
Maybe you ROH fans can help me out here- How does following up a high impact move like a brain buster with a bridging crossface variation make any sense? As if momentary paralysis wasn't enough to put the guy out- you gotta choke him? Why? That's like stabbing a guy you just shot in the face... it makes no sense!
actually, it makes perfect sense to me. if you want to make sure the mf'er you shot in the face is dead, stabbing him is not a bad route to go. following impact with submission is like adding insult to injury.
Good little match showcased both talents very well. ROH please book Silas Young more in the future at this point he should be on the regular roster from all his matches he has had in ROH plus some stuff I have seen from him in AAW he is a very tremendous talent and has allot of potential, and also I think for a while everyone has know how great Austin Aries is.
this Silas Young is pretty impressive. hope to see him again in ROH in a bigger role instead of the ROH role. he seems to have that look and the package to hang w/ the top stars in ROH.
yea i saw that too, that he doesnt really have much of a character, but does Austin Aries or BJ Whitmer have characters? i dont really think they did. not tryin to diss you, i understand where your comin from.
I don't feel dissed, a like friendly debates on things anyway as long as they lead to better things for wrestling. Anyway, you do have point, however, one thing to note for 2 is that they were around ROH in earlier days, giving them better chances. More or less, they are playing roles. There are always those exceptions. However, I do feel that you need to have a personality that gets you over with fans instead of just being a plain wrestler. There are always those exceptions, however, as noted.
With Silas, I will note, I think he was great talent and I would like to see him in ROH in future, though of course, he has to pay his dues first and proof spot.
This is one the very few ROH matches I've seen. Short match, but awesome for what it was worth. I enjoyed myself. What Silas Young did with the headstand on the turnbuckle to a moonsault from the ropes was resourceful.
