  • There is less chance of losing gold if you wet your black sand first and maybe use a surfactant, such as detergent. Dry gold (and some of the dry black sand) will "float" on the water's surface tension... I had this happen to me the other day as I tried out a new mini-sluice (Christmas present!). Luckily, I caught it in a catchment tub and re-sluiced it.
