Sorry i dont speak much english. awesome performance!. i saw you on youtube when my uncle sayd me look that instrument "chapman stick". on this moment look for me awesome.. im not a music pro, but all my family yes.. nice work continue.. Salute from Venezuela..
..........and living where you do I hope you hook up with Happy The Man / Oblivion Sun at some point. Or the CA Guitar Trio. You would be a perfect fit.
Your playing manages to be both sophisticated and yet accessible at the same time. I've never heard anyone play stick or Warr other than Trey Gunn that held my attention like you do. Hard to believe you still have to work days...
Thanks, Nick, I always appreciate good musicianship. It's especially nice that he's writing his own stuff at his age. I like the slap effect, but, it's kind of hard to watch. I scrolled down and just listened instead. Nice.
As usual, your skill never fails to impress. I only wish the video was better. It would be great to get some closer shots of you in action, like your own vids where we can see the fingerings. Any chance of a better videographer in the future?? LOL! Keep up the GREAT work!
awesome tune, awesome playing. i am considering a stick myself (bassist) - damn expensive things. anyway to deepen the bass sounds on these? i know john myung uses it but doesnt play like you do (on the stick)
It's funny to hear you say you get nervous playing live or even recording videos. You have such mastery over the instrument and your compositions are truly beautiful. You could play to a room full of C. Stick players and you would have nothing to be nervous about.
i've heard some (not many) other chapman stick players/musics, and I still think you're the best (even if you're not playing it professionally), All your songs are very melodic, they just sound good (I love Mighty Wren)! keep on making music, if you ever throw out a record i'll buy it surely
Hi Rob. Did you learn on your own or did you have any "mentor" helping you out. From my tiny spot in France, there's no way I could find anyone to teach me, so... despite 25 years of music playing, I need reassuring! Give us some more when you have time. You're great!
Thanks for your comment. I'm mostly self-taught (and use my own custom tuning) but also had some good advice from Greg Howard who lives near me. There was just a Stick seminar in France, and one later in Germany this month, don't know if you've heard about them.
Didn't hear about the seminars. Thanks for the info. I recognized G.H. on this video. I guess it's nice being able to share experiences with other performers. I HAVE to get started! I just need to convince my banker now ;-)
this is freaking awesome, but one question. who decided it should be called a stick? call it something cool like...uber guitar or something. i dont know, i just think STICK doesnt do it justice.
ive been getin intrested in getin a Chapman stick. but i really dont know if ill be able to pick it up. im a bass player myself, but just wondered how long it will take to get used to playing one? how do u pick it up? great tone by the way. love all of ur video's.
thanks... the Stick will take time to get used to for anyone, it doesn't feel like a guitar or bass although previous music experience should help. There's good instruction material and online resources (forums, etc.).
I had experience with a few other things actually, piano, guitar and bass... one of the reasons I play the Stick is that it's like a combination of all of them!
You know how much I love this song,it is really great for me to see you play it live..very very nice job,it is impressive.hoping to see more, take good care:)
Rob, this is a great tune! Thank you for sharing this clip of your live performance! I seem to remember that you said you performed three tunes at this venue....ummm...don't you owe us a couple more clips there bud???? LOL! It would have been great to have been in this audience. I'm sure there will be many more to come! LC
Im from new york, i'd love for you to come here and play a show! As i said, once your album is released i will buy it DEFINITELY

I'm sure you were quite nervous, understandably. Awesome performance. This is the sole reason I want to go to America.
We have some good acts in Australia... But my favourite bands and musicians reside in the good ol' US of A.
Keep up the good work!
And post some more (or do some more) live stuff.
Good luck!
