ok, i could use some help, a couple days ago my 360 connected to live(an ethernet from my 360 to my desktop which gets wireless internet from a linksys usb) i got home like 2 days ago, turned on my 360, and it couldnt get internet. i tried resetting everything to default factory and reconnecting again, but it doesnt work. i got internet using ics but now i cant, and i cant get it bridging either. and when i see my xbox settings the ip for it starts with 169, any suggestions?
lol i got the 360 slim, my neighbors have wifi with no PW so all i gotta do is connect to his router named netgear and im online on my xbox, saved me money since i don't gotta buy a router, is there anyway they can find out im using there internet?
@TH7596 Yup they can look on their users who is using the wifi connection in their settings it should probably say XBOX and if they dont have a xbox your fucked
@mattpedroscottjamie Never get on XBOX Live? Honestly, how do you expect to get on live without anything to connect yourself to the internet. You're gonna have to buy either an ethernet calbe or the wireless adapter.
If you go to places like Jaycar (in Australia) or I'm guessing radioshack you can buy ethernet cabling by the metre (foot/yard?) which is the cheapest way. You only need plain Cat 5 or 5e.
I don't see the point in this... you will experience a bad connection if you try to put the xbox through a computer or laptop. i tried it when i first got my xbox 360 like 4 years ago. just use a ethernet cable from your router. and if you don't have a router just the modem invest in one you can get cheap ones for like 30 bucks and some of them are pretty good. i have a tplink n router i paid 29.99 can$. Best connection cable is the way to go. I hate playing laggy games from some wireless guy
@champ0053 Some situations dude, you can't use a router, either cause you're gonna need some stupid amount of cable (say 30m or so) or you live with people who don't want cables running around (or even with kids who will pull on them or whatever). And no, it will not cause lag, unless you have a terrible wireless connection, which will be the same through the laptop or with the wirelesss adapter.
I have the xbox wireless adapter, and I'm always getting host (with great hosting).
yesyesesyesyesyesyesyes hell yes !!!!!!!!! finally a good tutorial i freaking love you i want to have your babies tytytyty ive tried 4 today and this one worked and it took me like 2 minutes to save like 80 dollars now i can buy turtle beaches i love you i wish i could donate 10 bucks to you !!!!1
"Connect your xbox360 to internet without spending money "
at 0:35 you already told us to spend $30.00. Unless the phrase "30 bucks" means gathering a bunch of deer, and giving them to wal-mart, i'm pretty sure thats money.
lol, you might want to directly connect your Xbox360 to your WiFi Adapter's LAN Port rather than taking the PC near it. Since your PC is WiFi, it doesnt matter where it sits as long as its 20 meters away from the WiFi router.
@RaYzTri0z14 i'm assuming your desktop computer uses a wireless card, otherwise you probably would just plug it into your router. but in the case that you do have a wireless card, just plug it into the ethernet port, where you would usually plug an ethernet cable in for wired internet.
@AmandaFields I opened it up so that "other people" could use my internet connection and my xbox360 didn't detect shit and said I needed to buy a wireless adapter. Go choke on a dick and die
@AmandaFields check the answered comments up top. this video is for vista, windows 7 requires a different method to do what's called "bridging" your connections.
Under the sharing tab, I click the top box, and under that box, it makes me select "home network connection" which I have noticed is not on the video. I believe this is why this connection is not working for me. I have watched other videos saying I have to bridge the connections, is bridging connections my answer?
yes. bridging your connection is essentially what is done in this video. in windows 7 and xp the instructions from this video won't work. you have to bridge the connections. NOTE if you have windows 7 basic, network bridging is not supported.
check to make sure the correct drivers are installed on your comp. right click "computer" >> manage >> device manager. if you see that one of the devices has a yellow mark to the left of it (probably network adapters) right click it >> update driver software. go through the steps it tells you to do. if that doesn't work try to find the correct driver for that network adapter online (google). else make sure your wireless router is on and working.
I have spent the last 2 hours trying to do this. At 1:42, I do not have a Sharing tab. My xbox knows it's connected to a PC. My PC knows it's connected to an xbox. However, they will not share anything, and the connection test on the xbox fails.
Maybe Game sell the very expensive adapters? It's been 2 hours and I failed to save money. I think it's time to give up. ):
The easy thing to do is use an Ethernet cable directly with a router. The method demonstrated in the video is to use a wifi-enabled PC as a sustitute for a 360 wifi adapter.
Imagine you have a wifi laptop/pc in your room along with a 360 but you don't want an ethernet cable stretching across the house from your modem. That's where this method would be convenient.
Still, it's best to stay wired if you don't want lag. Otherwise you'll lag out of a match everytime someone turns on the microwave.
everytime i try to do that its shows up a window saying that an error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled. null.... why is that happening i just followed the steps as u said ????
imo you're far better off using powerline networking than buying the wireless adapter from microsoft since you can use it with more than just your xbox and because its wire it'll provide faster transfer speeds than wifi
@msmgamers SAME!!! If someone sends him a PM explaining, please forward to me! I can record a video of me trying if anyone wants it because it doesn't show a sharing tab :/
omg i need immediate help. on my settings on the computer where you can see who you're sharing media with , i deleted the 360 and i dnt know how to put it back.
Not only that but im seeing so many thank you's on here, its nice that this helped people but this is rediculous. Step one attach cable to xbox 360, step two attach other end of cable to dsl modem, step three enjoy connectivity as you turn on your 360. I mean if your needing wireless i can see how this could be helpful, but its not the only way to connect your 360 to the internet and its not that helpful
@dbzfromhell i know that this is not the only way but im moving my xbox in my room and my modom is down stairs so this will help anyone who needs to do this
or if you dont want to fuck with all those steps, take a broadband cable hook it up to dsl modem, and your done. honestly this is taking more steps then necessary.
I tryed this, it worked but for some reason after a couple of minutes i get disconnected from xbox live and i check the status of the wired network and its sending more packets then receving why is that. I have a N adapter for my pc and N router.
Thanks for the youtube Video Bjensen17 since i finally got connected through This Morning i am so happy.
my xbox360 ethernet is really small since our xbox360 never came with one in a box first time we bought ours but lucky my other ethernet cable work Perfectly So Thanks for the video
I tried the exact same steps you did, and when i try to enable to sharing and then setup the bridge, get a pop up saying you need to select either 2 LAN highspeed connections, or a highspeed connection that isnt internet sharing, WTF!!!!! this is horseshit lol
Sorry to the people having problems, but I'm running Vista and this worked the first time. Step 1 - plugged a regular ethernet cable into the back of my pc. Step 2 - connected same cord to my xbox. Step 3 - followed video exactly (properties, sharing etc.). Step 4 - modern warfare 2 for 3 hours.
Thx i really helped me alot :DDD an for other users out there who can't get it to work i haveing a normale laptop and wireless internet and it just working for me perfect
Hey, are you still having difficulty ? because mine was saying error too,
But then i read down through these comments and someone said about "bridging" the (Local Area Connection) with the (Wireless Connection) by highlighting the 2 with the mouse "holding down left click and sweeping across them" then right click and choose (bridge..)
It then creates another ICON as the bridge, right click it, and choose (properties), wait for the blank field to load & at the top ("tick both boxes") then ok
I used this method about a year an a half ago. It a nice alternative if you don't want to buy a wireless adapter, but then again, if you don't have a laptop, then obviously it won't be cheaper. The bad thing is, your computer needs to be turned on while you're on live.
select local area and wireles press right mouse button en then click at make brig make it plug in ethernet cable in laptop and xbox 360 you should have internet now hope i helped if you wanna i got cod 4 and cod6 addme ass frend : Vampishrenso see ya
There is no difference between this and directly wiring the Xbox to your home network router/switch. A prerequisite to this would be to have your Xbox close to your computer. To wire it to the router, the Xbox would have to be close to the router.
If your Xbox is far away from both, then you have no choice but to go wireless with the Xbox wireless adapter. Unless you want to run long runs of ethernet cable throughout the house.
Idealy if you wire, you want to go directly into the router
@kbakken1 i got only 1 ethernet port on both my router and pc, my 360 is pretty close to the PC but i cannot connect the ethernet cable from 360 to either router or pc coz they're already taken, should i get a ethernet switch ?
i have vista and when you click properties on the wireless connection mine only shows networking and not the sharing tab...can u plz help me send me a message if u can.
I need help I,m getting a error on the last step where you have to check the box

when i try to enable network sharing it says an error occured and it doesnt work y?
soccerdude0908 2 years ago
Hey, are you still having difficulty ? because mine was saying error too,
But then i read down through these comments and someone said about "bridging" the (Local Area Connection) with the (Wireless Connection) by highlighting the 2 with the mouse "holding down left click and sweeping across them" then right click and choose (bridge..)
It then creates another ICON as the bridge, right click it, and choose (properties), wait for the blank field to load & at the top ("tick both boxes") then ok
bartapian5 2 years ago
2/ The icon started to identifying the connection.. i ran a connection test on the Xbox, and it worked.
you can change the name of that bridge icon, to Xbox ect,
-------------------------------------
I clicked on the video-response under the video above, the one on the right there and he shows what to do with bridging

I used this method about a year an a half ago. It a nice alternative if you don't want to buy a wireless adapter, but then again, if you don't have a laptop, then obviously it won't be cheaper. The bad thing is, your computer needs to be turned on while you're on live.

realy its work!!

omg if you don't have a wireless laptop it will cost more then a wireless xbox 360 adapter
micciboy0 2 years ago
you just need a wireless card in your computer it can be one of those usb things

@kbakken1 i got only 1 ethernet port on both my router and pc, my 360 is pretty close to the PC but i cannot connect the ethernet cable from 360 to either router or pc coz they're already taken, should i get a ethernet switch ?
hoodfigga33 1 year ago
@hoodfigga33
Yes, a switch would be the easiest way to add devices to your network.
