Hi Betty! I watched this video when it was first uploaded but didn't think of seeking out Makers Mark cause i assumed i wouldn't be able to find it here in Oz. I actually found it recently at a local supermarket and bought a bottle of it. I don't drink but my boyfriend says it's really good and he really enjoys drinking it! Thanks a lot for bringing us along on your trips. We wouldn't have found out about Makers Mark if it wasn't for you! Thanks! :)
@happy002 I am also Aussie and makers mark is the only bourbon I buy. jim beam white label tastes harsh and horrible now, makers is smooth and delicious.
Betty Im so glad you visited Maker's Mark distillery.... I have a very important questions that I have nt been able to find the answere no where... Do you know what kind of wax they use to seal their bottles or where can I buy them. I need a wax that is strong flexible and thick, one that wont break... like the one they use. Let me ask you how long did it take for the wax to dry before you were able to touch it? Also this video made me feel like I was there, You saved me a trip :)Thanks Betty.
Just recently fell in love with you Betty.....I mean your videos sorry got side tracked but curious what type of car Rick and you are driving in that video with the bright red interior?
I loved watching this video Betty & Rick! I love the field trips! I was impressed with the information you shared before entering the facility. You are very knowledgeable.
I live in Taiwan now. Im obsessed with whiskey. Scotch is good but I love bourbon. Everytime I see you and your home I sort of miss the atmosphere that western homes can have ( although Im from UK) . Ive had this pipe dream to go to Kentucky and do all the distillery tours ...................unfortunately IF my gf did go to the USA I feel id be dragged to NY shopping ;v( . Keep up the good work I really enjoy your vids from across the pond.
Wow, they have really changed things there. There were no tasting and you couldn't buy the bourbon either, it was a dry county. Your Bardstown videos are making me home sick :-)
Hi Joe! I am far from perfect, and the wax-dipping is just an example of being out of my comfort zone! My second bottle went badly, also! Fortunately, the first bottle I dipped turned out to be beautiful, because it had about 3 times the wax that it should have (my dipping it in way deep and then bringing it up in the air!). The second bottle evened out the wasted wax--it barely got any! Anyway, I guess I won't make it as a bottle dipper...I better just stick to cooking! Thanks for commenting!
I have been so busy with my trips that I have gotten behind in my correspondence! I'm trying to get a few trips that involve food, before the weather turns bad! Thanks for your lovely comment! My family is doing well--I hope the same for yours!
The distillery was beautiful and I hope to one day visit places like this with my husband. What a great bonding experience and something new is always fun.
Whisky and rum are my favorite type of drink when I do have one...Mmm. :)
You have a handsome husband and your so beautiful! (Barbie and Ken?) Also....I love your hair style. Have a great day.
Thanks for your lovely comment! Your * are* an "angel!" Yes, my husband and I are having a wonderful time visiting some places and taking some of you along! Thanks again for your comment!
I am rather clumsy so if I dipped a bottle into the wax I would more than likely end up dropping the whole bottle right in that wax pot...TeeHee
Thanks for taking us along with you both!
The area the distillery was at looked absolutely GORGEOUS! And the sound of the birds was the best! I love things and places like that, I love the countryside!
Hi Linda! I'm glad you enjoyed the trip! It was fun. It didn't cost anything (except for the liquor that I bought). It was certainly worth driving a little bit to get there! I will be taking you to the horse races this weekend! Enjoy your day!
I don't drink much of anything, but I will sip on an Old Fashioned, and I like the flavor of whiskey in bourbon balls! I am *certainly* not a big drinker--you can probably tell when I end a lot of my videos with a glass of iced tea!
Thanks Betty this was awesome!! I was always curious how they put the wax on top of the bottles like that. I live in Georgia and a bottle of 750ml of makers mark is around 40 to 45 bucks. Do you know how much the retail is in Kentucky? Oh and the chocolate whisky ball looks sooo gooooodd MMMmmmm...
I think the retail price is the same. The dipping bottles that I bought at Maker's Mark were 375 ml, and they cost about $20 each, including tax. The bourbon balls are wonderful! I've been having one each night since I made them--trying to pace myself, but they really taste great! Thanks for your lovely comment!
I would have still had a good time. In Kentucky, people are very relaxed about letting you take pictures or video (even taking them for you!), giving out their most famous recipes, etc. Sometimes, I ask for permission with regard to something, but I've never been turned down on anything...yet! I have a big dinner that I'm going to soon (the 10-course last meal served on the Titanic), and I'm going to try to share the experience with all of you, but that may not be easy! I'll try!!! --Betty :)
I will be sharing more with you--Keenland Horse Race track with lunch, My Old Kentucky Dinner Train, the last dinner on the Titanic, the moonbow over Cumberland Falls, etc. Kentucky has a lot of interesting things--and I will relate them all to food of some kind! Thanks for your sweet comment!
This was my first trip. The tour was free, as was the tasting and bourbon balls. Of course, I had to pay for the liquor I bought, but dipping it in the red wax was free! We had a terrific time!
Thanks for your sweet comment! (I don't expect the Food Network to call anytime soon!) Yes, my husband likes to say things that will make me blush! Isn't he funny...
Thanks for viewing and commenting! Maker's Mark is very well known world-wide--so it would not be unlikely that your parents might have a bottle of it!
Fun trip Betty and Rick! Cant wait to see that bourbon ball recipe, lol yumm! Btw, Rick is so funny the way he teases you! I bet u all have so much fun together...perfect match! =-) also your makeup and hair was so youthful, nice cut and cute outfit! Thanks for the armchair trip! --Angie
You will *love* the bourbon balls! They are easy to make, but I would suggest that you make a couple of batches and freeze them for enjoying throughout the holiday season! Have a great day, Angie!
Thanks for taking us along again Betty, I love the field trips so much, very interesting..I was wondering if you have to have permission to film?..thanks again :)
No, you don't have permission to film. You don't have to stay with the tour group. Rick and I just wandered about the place on our own, and there were no restrictions. They were very nice and friendly and eager to please! Thanks for your comment--I'm glad you came along!
Betty, thanks for the tour. I love getting to see where stuff is made. I have never even tasted bourbon, but now I think I may have to take a trip to the liquor store and get me a bottle of that just to try!
Thanks for your lovely comment! Bourbon is one of those historic traditions of Kentucky. I will be showing you more of what Kentucky is like! If you buy some bourbon, you might like it best in bourbon balls--I'm uploading those today. I will be showing a bourbon drink tomorrow, but bourbon is an acquired taste, so I'm suggesting the candy as a start!
WOW it's my fav Bourbon whisky, thanks for the post. I liked it before it was super popular. back in the 80's my college pals thought I was crazy for buying it, I said you can have you Jack and Beam, I'll go with the Mark.

I'm so glad that you enjoyed the video! I learned a lot on the tour--I didn't know the barrels went on to Scotland! That's one connection between Kentucky and Scotland! Thanks for viewing and commenting!
I not a big drinker at all! Since I am associated with the university, I am quite often asked to be a test subject for the Department of Justice & Safety's Breathalyzer program (which trains Kentucky police cadets). That's the most drinking I do, so you might say, I drink when they pay me for it! I do enjoy the taste of bourbon in bourbon ball candy and in things like Keeneland Bread Pudding, but I never get very much alcohol from the amount I eat of those! Thanks for commenting!
You are very welcome...It's just another historic part of Kentucky that I can easily show to some of you who don't live closeby. Thanks for your sweet comment!
Do you mean the fermenting mash? Yes, the tour guides were encouraging it, and they told us they had found baby pacifiers, etc. at the bottom of the tanks! One of tour guides was running her hands through it as she talked. Of course, with the fermenting process taking up to almost 7 years, liquor is freer of bacteria, etc. than just about anything else you might ingest, being 90 proof (45% pure alcohol), and, of course, their procedure screens out miscellaneous impurities!
Well, it was a free tour, so all they gave us was a sip of unaged "bourbon" and a sip of aged bourbon, plus one bourbon ball piece of candy. I don't think that warranted an overnight stay! I brought home the two bottles I bought and dipped!
Betty your video of the Maker's Mark facility was Outstanding. I really enjoyed it,every minute
of it. Rick is a very lucky guy lol.

Maker's Mark Whisky is rated very high in germany so i will order a bottle
(it will probably last me for years...)
You're always so perfect in your videos, i'm almost glad to see you
'mess up' the wax dipping of the bottle a bit..
