  • Hah, am i the only person who identifies with Light Yagami's character in all aspects, im always thinking six steps ahead and when im asked what superpower id ever want my answer is always "lawnmower man esque, internet powers" i admit i once wanted that just because of forum trolls and gamers who are so up themselves they think they're god. But as life goes on and i meet more and more people completely clueless and without a brain...ehh. I guess im just saying, id go full darkside. Good review.

  • Best. anime. ever. I still don't like the voice for L in the English dub though, he doesn't sound crazy enough for me.

  • I'm watching the Japanese dub, which is excellent despite the whole Misa-thing, but i think i'll check out the English dub next time as i'm a big fan of Alessandro Juliani (Lt Gaeta on Batllestar Galactica for the uninitiated) :D

  • I'm watching this Anime right now and I love it! Well for the most part... L and Light's rivalry is amazing to watch and it's what makes the show for me! My main problem is the Misa character... She has to be the most annoying, out of place, poorly written excuse for a love interest that i've ever seen!

A dark show like Death Note does not need a bubbly schoolgirl to lighten the mood... And why does she act and talk like an 8-year-old?! It's fucking distracting!

  • @WelcomeGhostsIV: You are missing the point of Misa. She's NOT supposed to be a "love interest", Light is using her, he NEVER loves her. And "out of place" was what the writers were aiming for; they didn't want to keep things predictable; Misa is a wild card.

And she's not supposed to lighten the mood; she's supposed to be a psychopathic murderer. She acts and talks like an 8-year old because she's CRAZY. You're not supposed to laugh, you're supposed to be disturbed.

  • @GihirahimOfTheShadow Misa is definitely the comic relief of the series. She gets all the cutesy remarks, she goes off-model for comedic effect and when she's not out killing she's generally there to lighten the mood. If the author was trying to make her disturbing, crazy or even scary; he certainly did a terrible job at it. She just comes off as an annoying brat most of the time.

And being "CRAZY" doesn't excuse her for simply being a poorly developed plot-device.

  • @WelcomeGhostsIV: I'm sorry, but your position is like saying Batman is dark, so Harley Quinn (the exact same type of character as Misa) shouldn't be involved. Just because something is dark doesn't mean it can't have variety to it's characters.

And Misa is a poorly developed plot-device? Wait until you see Near and Mello. -_-

  • @GihirahimOfTheShadow Hey, yeah... They ripped off Harlequin! Except where she could be funny, tragic and disturbing; Misa... Isn't. At least not convincingly! I don't know if it's the writing or the acting for the character but she just didn't do it for me. Luckily she was less featured near the end of the show which, of course, only led to MORE poorly developed plot devices for Light to exploit.

  • @GihirahimOfTheShadow And dont get me started on Mello and Near - One has no personality outside looking like a woman and the other is basically just L, except.. Younger and not as cool. (Were they also related or something?)

Near even wears an L-mask a one point, but Light calls him out on it citing he's no match for L - Being an L-supporter i appreciated that moment and shows that Light does respect SOMEBODY! :D

  • DID YOU KNOW that the voice of L is the voice of Prince Antonio from Barbie as the Island Princess? I know. Mind blowing.

  • Favorite manga

  • Death Note was the gate way anime drug I used for my best friend. >:) MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH~!

  • Actually, it's dubbed by Canadians.

  • Now review "Code Geass: Lelouch of the rebellion" :)

  • @GuillerMak37 What can she say that hasn't been said already?

  • @guncannon109 :/ I just want to hear her opinion.

  • Yeah, I agree. The movies suck! >:(

  • smosh just made a parody of this show

  • My favorite moment is " I'LL TAKE A POTATO CHIP AND EEEAAATTT IIIIITTTTT!,!!!!!"

  • That opening gets me every time!

  • Marathoned this series in 48 hours. Because I literally had nothing else to do. Entertaining. Wouldn't see it again. Loved the potato chips. And "If you keep this secret, you get a strawberry."

  • Japanese Psychotic Laugh

    American Psychotic laugh

    Mark hamill's Psychotic laugh

  • hey, JO, have u ever read "death note: another note, the LA BB murder cases?" i wonder if u might like it. b/c i certainly did. (its novel btw, not manga)

  • Matsuda should have been Kira. Like Adachi. I would lol irl.

  • I like Misa. And I like the second half. :'c

Now I feel like I have poor taste.

  • isnt that ocean dub gohans voice..

  • After watching many reviews I think you primarily do review dubbed anime series in comparison to the original version why is this. I probably said something like this in another one of your videos. its not that I hate dubs its just that I find most of them hard to watch. Sure there are some good dubs out there. I can't really name any since I hardly ever watched any dubs or truly paid many attention to them.

  • @skysword77

I do about 95% of anime subtitled, but I'm faithful to a few English dubs: Mushi-shi was pleasant and calm, and Romeo x Juliet was much better in English (being based on Shakespeare). Baccano! is my favorite English dub, being set in America with accents and slang that don't show up the Japanese subtitles. And it has talented VAs.

I haven't seen Cowboy Bebop yet, but I hear that it has one of the best dubs ever. Also, the Wolf's Rain dub is amazing, equal to the Japanese.

  • @AvatarYoda You should give the hetalia dub a listen. It's by far my favourite dub. X3

  • Still my favorite review of this show XD

  • You are pure awesomnes

  • Misa was basically to this what JarJar Binks was to Star Wars.

  • @VGAfanatic You're insulting Misa

  • @redjirachi1 I don't think comic relief should be in a serious, dark, and calculating show. At least give me the botd for that.

  • @redjirachi1 I feel the same about Matsuda.

  • Almost hard to believe that Sidoh is the voice of Double-D from Ed, Edd n Eddy.

  • @VGAfanatic: not to mention Sidoh and Gevanni are one and the same in terms of voicing.

  • I has found a supergenius called otto, he's in my favorite book xP

  • 6:01

    Prepare to die. Obviously!

  • L is Real 2041

    Super Mario 64 reference

  • ...Most fun part.

"I'll take a potato chip... and EAT IT!"

  • its a good anime and the 3 live action movies as far as being foreign films were off the chain, especially "L change the world" which is the 3rd movie "L" does more than sit down, if you want to call them, he actually has a couple of action scenes. and those movies were pretty good

  • That laugh....as long as it's not the english Vash

  • I loved your intro!

  • The way you say mature... really irritates me... I'm just saying, i've wanted to point this out for a long time XD

  • I was beyond hooked the first half of the show... and then that damn , uninstriting, and just STUPID second half happened...

    I like the movie's ending..

  • @SebTheOtaku i'll take this anime.......AND WATCH IT!!!!!! lol

  • I think one of the reasons the chaarcter in Death Note works so well is because of how relateable and believeable he is.

If any of us were given power of life and death over the people of the world, I think any one of us would be tempted to make the same decision he did. To rid the world of all evil people.

But of course at the same time I think that, like him, we'd be just as capable of being corrupted by that power.

A good moral and cautionary tale.

  • @TheJboy88 I agree the plot died with L T_T

  • Im sorry, yea that anime was awesome, buuuuuut .... for me it died when (spoiler) L died and lost almost all thew point.

Mallo was a little bitch and not all that interesting, Neer was a L knock-off and not all that interesting, and ofter L died all the tension blew away in the wind.

It is still a great watch but beyond the death of L it just fell short.

  • Season 2 was very different from the first season but in a decent way. It's focus turned from mind vs. mind to Light's descent into insanity, and while Near and Mello didn't bring much to the show other than being Light's mandatory doom, I like to keep my focus on just Light during that part. The season was pretty good development for him, not to mention it wasn't dragged on like in the manga. While the 2nd season didn't exactly have the charm of the 1st one, I wouldn't call it barely watchable.

  • "Hey, why are we watching a car chase, i wanna hear the talks some more" :D. Perfectly accurate.

  • Where did you get the shirt you have on from 9:08 - 9:30?

    plz reply ^_^

  • By the way, when it says American Psychopathic Goodness, it should say Canadian Psychopathic Goodness.

Everyone in the English dub was Canadian.

    YUP.

    CANADIAN.

    Lovely, lovely Canadian.

  • @LithuaniaCanada Mello is about ten times more Canadian than the rest of them, too. XD "ABOOT."

  • @JesuOtaku XD We do not pronounce it ABOOT. :P

    But it's true.

  • @JesuOtaku Jesu Jesu you gotta listen tp me. They are making an Americanized version of the Death Note manga!!!!!!! :( It's horrible they're having Shane Black, an action blockbuster man, to direct and having Zac Efron as Light Yagami. Holy sh*t that is the most unholy thing I have ever read. God damnit this is gonna suck. I mean try and picture ZAC EFRON trying to pull off an emo genius look. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • @FilmMasterUlrich Zac Efron said he had interest in the film. 2 years ago. After that he didn't say a word about it. I doubt he'll be involved. Also, Shane Black is a relatively good director. He did some really good movies, not to mention he's a big fan of Death Note. They could've gotten a lot, lot worse... and who knows if they're even making the movie. It's been in development hell for years.

...Wait, did you say Light is an emo genius? I thought that was L.

  • @LithuaniaCanada Further proof that we Canucks do more than just guzzle Maple Syrup all day, eh? (Sorry, I'm Canadian. I have an obligation to poke fun at myself on a regular basis.)

  • @CaptainRaccoonWhitly So am I.

  • I have to be honest about your reviews. I do not agree, only respect.

  • PLEASE

    I BEG OF YOU

    TELL

    ME

    WHERE

    YOU

    GOT

    THAT

    SHIRT

  • 2 thumbs way up.......... (even though I didn't appreciate their dubbed studio comment in digimon though)

  • Short anime..

    OH SNAP!!!!

I loled so hard at that!!

  • just so u know..fyi brah BWHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAH! BEST LINE EVER!!!!

  • SOAD's spirit lives on in Maximum the Hormone.

I really liked Death Note. It defined its' zeitgeist anime-wise along w/Code Geass with characters whose deductive abilities were even less belivable than Sherlock Holmes'.

The dubs horrible :( The Manga's>the anime.

Death Note wasn't as good after L dies and the ending's bullshit but I like the idea of a Kira cult surviving his death.

  • @Kogerii Was ending in anime different? Because I really liked how the manga ended.

  • @Greil9

uh...I think it's the same. Don't think I saw all of the ending in the anime.

    SPOILERS

It was just so forced when Near's like, "oh yeah this guy spied you out, stole the book, forged an identical copy, and so on". The only redeeming part was when that detective got the idea they used the Death Note to murder Kira.

  • @Kogerii *SPOILERS* In the manga the way they foudn out Light is Kira seems to be the same, but in that one after Light was shot by Matsuda, he broke down and started yelling at nay of his folowers to save him, including Misa who was nowhere around and that other chick who he killed with the Death Note. Eventually He asked for Ryuks help but instead of riting his captors names, he wrote lights name. Cue the mos pathetic display of Light begging for his life, whining that he doesn´t want to die

  • @Greil9

It seemed out-of-character how he panicked and had no backup plan but I liked the conversation about there being no afterlife and how the Shinigami's like, "I'm bored again. Goodbye Light"

  • @Kogerii Well how would you except Light to act there? He always acted confident since he was in total control and thought he could never be taken down, but there he was completely deffeated and broken.

But if you think he would have reacted different, please tell (no sarchasm intended)

  • @Greil9

He should be calm and try to figure a way out. He does that to a degree by trying to spell the name in blood and trying to get Riku to help him but even the way he snaps seemed not so much like Light having a mental breakdown as him acting like someone else.

It gives credence to the implication near murdered Light using the death note and staged that scenario just to thump his chest.

  • This review made me laugh so much XD Which is bad cus its 4:30 am

    Whatever

    Awesome review!!!!

  • AZUMANGA DAIOH MUSIC FTW!!!

    .......CAPS LOCK IS UNDERRATED

  • @SebTheOtaku It's the same with Final Fantasy VII

  • Where I can find that shirt?

P.D. I don't know why a lot of people hate Death Note, I mean it's not best anime ever but at least it can be in a Top 25.

  • I haven't had the chance to sit down and watch this anime all the way through, but would you describe it as an almost Shakespearean tragedy...the killing aspect reminds me of Macbeth :P

  • @SebTheOtaku i found it fun and entertaining and clever air gear claymore yuyu hakusho dbz bleach naruto code geass inuyasha gurren lagann those are sun really gud shows i like

  • I'll take a potato chip.... AND EAT IT!!

  • My reaction on Death Note, decent. It's note the greatest thing in anime, but not the worse, somewhere in between, leaning towards the former slightly.

Light was a arrogant fool and I'm honestly glad he got it in the end.

  • Just got back from watching this show. I agree with almost every word she says. I thought the "disappearance" of L was an interesting plot twist...although it did make the plot a little slow. Happily, I was so hooked to the show that I didn't mind much. Death Note = well-written juggernaut! I really liked it! Didn't wholly love it...but pleasantly got really into it. Really glad I picked it up. :)

  • The last words God spoke were, "Damn it!"

  • I am L and I am 90% sure that I exist

  • I laughed REALLY hard at that opening.

  • Deathnote...where you can have your chip and eat it too.

  • @SebTheOtaku It's this generations Evangelion ;)

  • I almost spit out my drink in laughter at the red text "Windows 2000 vomit" lolol. Good review, as always!

  • I think most people secretly would love to have a Death Note! That one of the reason why people love Death Note!

  • you cant be J, you're not Will Smith!

  • Comment removed

  • Love it or hate it, "I'll take a potato chip - and eat it!" is quite possibly the most epic line I've ever heard in anything ever.

  • Your reviews are amazing. your narrations and script writting are clean clever and straight. I love your comparsions and use of tone in your reviews. I am really mindblown how a young girl wrote this.you should defentially think about a career in news or writing or journalism because it very good. It's very mature and at times funny and luring. your tone is smart. Please take me seriously when I say it would be a waste if you don't try to push your talents in writing or anchoring in the future.

  • good review but god so many episodes after l dies destroyed this show got to wonder why they didn't let L win in stead of near and mello... oh well

  • i agree that the last 10 episodes or so really kill the anime, but then again, you cant have the villain win...can you....

  • Holy cow, I didn't realize how young Light was in the beginning!

  • CURSE YOU JO YOU MADE ME WATCH ALL OF DEATH NOTE... AGAIN!!!!

  • (Part Two)

As for the live-action movies, JesuOtaku, I've seen them. I have them on my bookshelf. I thought they translated pretty darn well, even with all of the changes. Movies change a lot of things, it happens, and they did a pretty good job of it. And Ryuk looked way better than a Windows attempt. The Japanese are holding out on us.

  • (Part One)

First off, I loved Death Note. That's just my opinion, I can clearly see not everyone agrees, but it's just such an interesting concept that I couldn't put it down. Some of the characters (I admit) are a little out there, but it's fun watching Light's descent into the chaos he swore to vanquish, and his innovative methods of doing so.

  • Shoen jump rocks but somtimes there manga authors can go way too far with plot and characters EX: Yu Yu hakeshu, Inyasha, Bleach, Rurunoir Kenshin, Buso Rankin, Full metal alchemest, Dragon ball: all 3 of them, etc.

  • To be honest, I fucking hate it when people dismiss the last third of Death Note because L isn't the focus. Admittedly, I don't like it as much as the first two third, but it's still great in my opinion. Although I way the last episode played out, it seemed like they had ten minutes of events for a 22 minute time period.

  • Love your reviews, can watch them over and over again. With the dubbing, it's just me but you might want to either increase the volume of you talking or lowing the audio of the anime as it's hard to hear you at times and hurts the ears when it gets loud.

  • @ParaChomp Tis review is super old, like the intro at beginning says. She's much better at volume control now.

  • I fucking hate Misa; she's so annoying, and the anime because obnoxiously boring after L died. But, I will say, i liked it till then!

  • It's hard to believe the guy who plays L once voiced Kid Icarus in the Captain N cartoon.

  • Duel of Fates anyone?

  • Death Note or Code Geass, what do you guys think? I can't really pick which one in better.

  • @RstandsforRated Death Note

  • @RstandsforRated CG all the way cause Lelouch doesnt fail at the end

  • @thunder3737 Lelouch wasn't against L, or Nier+Mello which equal L.

  • @mohdban No he was against a entire empire and he wasnt being such a cry baby when he died he died with honor.

  • When is the Desu Desu Brigade comeing back?

  • It's not the greatest anime in all the world but I think to harshly bash it smells of ... hipster.

  • @InsideTheMirror

*high five* I think it's absolute trash and a horrible series also filled with wasted potential. I don't think it's overhated, so many people praise it, look at the top anime lists on things like ANN or myanimelist. Seems like all the [newbie] fans find this series to be a fave. I say newbie, because most serious fans or ones that haven watched more than 60ish anime think differently.

  • Thumbs up if you couldn't help but laugh with the psychopaths.

  • lol "I'll take a potato chip AND EAT IT" and "MIIIIIND TENNIS" LOL :D

  • the opening made me laugh

  • Honestly I like near and mello. They bring that little something to the show. It would be borning if L didnt die so thats why i think its a great anime because people think its over then these 2 new people come in. it's that secret spice honestly ^-^ but L was a great dective

  • When I first came across Death Note, a little before it became this big hit, I was fill in love with it. Though I watched it subbed so I'll have to give the dubbed version a shot. But I only watched season 1 and when Light 'killed' L and Near and the holland kid replaced him I stopped watching, because...well it just wasn't the same.

    Excellent Review! :)

  • God I'm so glad I didn't watch the dub its painful just from a preview. All and all think it was creative and different but I do feel that the ending could of been better.

  • God I hate Death Note.

  • @InsideTheMirror

    Me too, me too.

In fact I daresay: FUCK DEATH NOTE.

(and fuck all these little kids hyping it)

  • Jesu, you used the first opening but the second ending theme, why =o

  • Gateway drug is right! I showed Death Note to a few friends who aren't into anime (in fact, one of them outright hates anime) and they both seem to enjoy it... so much so that one of them (NOT the anime-hater) actually want to watch more anime! Success! ^^

  • Cool review on a good anime.I didn't care for vampire knight which is odd because I enjoy almost anything with vampires.Too hype for that anime show.

  • Thank you for reminding me how much I loved this series XD Though I actually liked the movies I saw. (I only saw the first 2) I just assumed that all Japanese live-action movies are like that XD

They're definitely better than the Higurashi Live-Action Movie @_@

  • yup as soon as L died it went down hill lol

  • first lol

this is my fave review of yours

  • @Beier135 Thumbs down, sir/lady

  • @BrUSomania why?
