The Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex has had some very near misses over the years. Most of the tornados we have had have been relativly small, short-lived ones. The 1957 tornado was the exception, of course, and that one was a "near miss" when you consider what it could have been. I think it isw only a matter of time until a whopper plows over us. I hope i am wrong though! Nice video. Thanks for posting.
@Vinson37Me It actually started to come back down out of the clouds a second time around Love Field, after I had stopped recording, but it didn't make it all the way to the ground.
i was like right in front of it went it started to happened i got home safely and like two or three houses got like literally thrown up into the air like 5 houses down from me
oh how yall get so close to it, thats one big ass tornado. when i was at texas stadium thats wehn i saw it, the dallas cowboys cheerleaders were practicing. it was awesome! i was scared though im a dallas cowboys cheerleader. my kid nadia goes on my youtube channel alll the tim and puts videos of her on it!!!!!!
Definitely a memorable moment. There were a few cells (not just the one right over Dallas) that was tornadic, and there were multiple tornado warnings during that time. I was watching all this on grlevel3 radar, and these were some beautiful storms.
I work near where the tornado landed and drove pass the damaged commercial area. I kid you not when I say on Mockingbird there were a straight row of fucked up buildings, and the only unscathed was the 24hr Adult video store!! lol.. and I'm dead serious about that
I'm originally from Bid D. Lived there for the first 41 years of my life. I was raised to the sound of tornado sirens, and well remember the worst tornado to ever hit Dallas...April 1957. I was 8 years old. It was one of the most beautiful/eerie sights I have ever witnessed. The sky was green...the clouds were various colors...purple, green, yellow, orange. Through the years, there were other tornadoes that hit Dallas; however, the 57 one was the worst. They are beautiful in form and symmetry.
@Gavsta40 I hope youre not serious. I Dont enjoy replacing my roof and fence every spring. If it misses you there is always hail damage..Its not cheap.
They tell you to stay under shelter until the sirens stop, then they go and turn them off while the tornado is on the ground. The message I'm getting here is, "OK, the tornado has passed the people who matter. Everyone on the wrong side of the tracks can come out and get sucked up by nature's vacuum now."
@AtarahDerek Just because the siren stops dosent mean the tornado is gone, i dont know who told you that when the siren turns off the torando is gone and over with
@Ethan07895 Most emergency procedure pamphlets tell you that when the sirens sound for a tornado, take shelter UNTIL THE SIRENS STOP. That's why that rather large gap of silence between warnings is a little disconcerting. At least with hurricanes they tell you not to be fooled by the calm center of the eye.
i live in frisco texas near dallas and the weaher was terrible in my school it was terrible we had to be hid away from the windows the whole day. also they had to close some streets cuz the water was overflowing the streets
I was there at the time in one of the buildings right at Harry Hines and Inwood, and all I could hear was the siren and people running around to get inside away from the windows because it was heading our way!!!I Scary stuff!! Tornado turned away at the last minute, thanks for the vid post!
I live in Dallas, and I was so freaked out! I couldn't believe it! But my parents didn't really care, they were just chillin and talking and laughin normally lol. I was so freaked out tho.
Oh man, I am in McKinney and I was glued to the TV during this whole thing. We had sirens going off up here as well because there was another threat at the same time this was happening, but the news keep assuring us that the threat wasn't that bad and nothing exciting was happening. Needless to say, I was freaking out for my buddies that live downtown.
WOW - I work at the Rosewood Court building right by the Crescent - I left work about an hour before this happened. My boss watched it from his office window - wild! I have lived in Dallas all my life and have never seen anything like this!
Yeah I know it, I thought that was pretty wild. As isolated an area tornadoes occur in, this one was in the exact same path. Thankfully this one didn't stay on the ground for nearly as long.
Really Good Video! I saw this thing from my work building at Greenville & University - it was pretty exciting! Never seen a "live" one before and I've been in TX all my life - go figure! :-/ What a surreal day yesterday was...
UTD in Richardson and SMU were forced into basements around this time. I was at my apartment on the ground floor at UTD just hoping it didn't touch down. Scary stuff.
Hard to believe that everything was just fine in Fort Worth... but I was getting concerned with all the sunshine that something would develop in Tarrant County (due to the effects of daytime heating on instability)... fortunately nothing happened on my side of DFW.
You are very lucky, omg the size of that cell coulda turned for the worst... not just the branch off but that entire cloud coulda turned into a bigger storm. I hate the way the winds sound during those cells... urks me to no end.
i saw the whole thing play out from reunion tower 560 ft up with a clear view of it. it was pretty amazing. i was glad it wasnt headed at us in a giant glass ball!
I was at work when I saw the tornado literally 3 blocks away and yes it did touch down... Cops had from irving blvd to close to 183 blocked off due to powerlines down and buildings roof collapsed
i was @ jesuit waiting for my dad when the sirens went off. knowing me i was outside looking for the tornado when every1 else was inside lmao. i didnt see it though :c i probably looked the wrong way :(
OMFG I am at SMU and we could see the funnel. I was at the computer with headphones on and didn't notice until i was told the sirens were sounding. We could see the downtown area silhouetted against the tornado. It looked like it was standing still, and then we understood what that meant. It was heading in our direction. We all freaked.
at 3:20 I was in the tallest building on the right around 605 pm. Thanks for posting this. I watched it cross the Trinity River and do some major damage along the way.

Laura: There's a tornado warning for Dallas...
