@steamboatwillie11 It would have a nice effect, but most people prefure recording two separate tracks, to give the nice effect. For me what I do is get two mics infront of one cab (make sure they're in phase) record a track, then record anothe track and pan one left and right
thanks for showing us different techniques of microphoning guitars!!! This music isn´t my style, but I appreciate a lot, what I can learn from that lesson.
Just the function of this nice preamp wasn´t so clear to me, couldn´t it have been any peace of gear to make it sound like this?
Respond to this video... of course he's a dunbass his name is gibson after all. and fender sucks too. i.e., unless you prefer twanggy swing guitar (then just get the "Eleven-rack") then you suck too!
guys i owned this amp....his recording techniques aren't the worst in the world. its that amp dude. probably the worst one to put on display for a recording example. as i was taught "you can magnify the color red times a million, but you can't ever find blue in it" in other words shit is going to sound like shit no matter how you record it. he should do himself a favor and sell that thing like I did for a subway sandwich. thats about all its worth
This CAN'T be an official PreSonus video, can it? The sound quality is so terrible, it sort of makes me ashamed of admitting I own (and sometimes use) a PreSonus micpreamp and compressor... < <
I like how when he pans the double tracked guitar, there is basically no difference because he is using the same amp with probably similar settings. What a dumbass.
I can get infinitely better tone than this dude's garbage with guitar rig, amplitube, or overloud th1. check out my videos for some examples of some of my old garbage that is better than this guy's garbage.
These days I record the preamp sounds from my Vox Tonelab ST with Redwirez cabinet impulses and it sounds awesome!
with acoustic guitars they would not go through an amplifier, they would be go through a DI straight into the mix, The tone on the amp will still be effected by mic placement, Mic placement is essential, i find that the best position is at about 4 o clock on a cab. you still need to have good mic placement on the speaker....
Yes,I agree. You have flexibility to work with in the mix-down and can add various effects to enhance the overall recording.I've done this with drums ,guitars, wind instruments and vocals.
i want to start recording my songs i make on my computer and i have windows XP i relly dont know where to start so if some one could help me out i would appreciate it
Hello, thankyou for putting this up. I have an audio design assignment with consists of searching youtube and finding the best and clearest description of how to record guitar and microphone techniques for the guitar and amp. thankyou! your video was the easiest to understand and covered all aspects.
Did anyone notice that this video is full of crackles we call "the rice crispies" ? I noticed that they became worse with volume input into the soundcard the video was produced on. Anyone notice ?
very helpful with the acoustic mic placement section, however the electric guitar section was terrible. The guitar tone sucks, what he's playing sucks, and the combined "doubled" and "low tuning" sounds terrible. Apart from this I have been very impressed with this series. thanks for making them and putting it up
I NEED HELP! I have the Presonus Firestudio and I am trying to record with Cubase Studio
4. When I plug a mic in, it shows that I'm getting sound (on the front of the firestudio) but I'm getting no sound through the computer because it's not showing up on Cubase. Please HELP!!!
Love the instructional videos, wish I had these ten years ago really help full stuff, saves people a lot of trial and error like I had to go throught. I recommend and support the Firepod, we use that with Cubase LE. Have not been hindered from doing anything we need to make an album with this package. Thanks for posting.
AUCH! the voice-over sounds dull and overcompressed, and the guitar sound coming out of the Line 6 amp sounds almost like stonerrock, thus crappy. but the acoustic guitar part is very good and clear.
Excellent, particularly the first part! The section where you have the mic moving slowly back and forth over the guitar as the musician is playing -- that is the single-most helpful and concise way of presenting that information that I have EVER seen, and I'm an old dog at this stuff! Excellent concept and execution. If you're moved to create more tutorials, please use that concept again. You're really on to something. Thanks very much for the time and effort that went into this.
What is the mic plugged in to? A laptop with a webcam or a normal camera or something?
LukeRD95 3 weeks ago
would doubling work if you just put two mics, one on the rim and another in the center of the speaker, and played the track once?

the guitar tone from the amp was just bad...
muddy..

they have a tube amp now. it's called the Spider Valve

yeah! They should have used a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe instead! Line 6 is probably good for Pop/Rock Clean Sound with much Chorus and Reverb i think.
