  • I think with hindsight we can say that Blur beat Oasis by quite some margin.

  • God, the way the solo cut is.. greatness

  • Absolutely beautiful song

  • although its short, I think the solo from graham coxon is really good for the song

  • the pure artistry of this song is just.... ming boggling! I happened to hear the tune by chance and instantly fell in love with it just from the music, then i saw what the lyrics were and the meaning was and just. wow. stunning. the use of the radio, it just feels like and endless expanse when he opens up at the chorus. Bravo

  • THIS IS A LOOOOOOOWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is the band I love most!

    Greetings from Philippines.

  • its not Britpop, its Blur!!

  • @korz777

yep.Tune that only Blur can do.

  • interesting fact - alex james and danny dyer both went to the same boarding school in sussex. apparently, the original lyrics to country house were written by alex and danny when they had their first splith in the school dorm. they set up a band called naughty boys but it fell apart when danny joined the icf.

  • @rankingjohnmajor what's a splith?

  • @stevemindickson its the public school spelling of spliff

  • According to bassist Alex James in his 2007 autobiography Bit of a Blur, "Damon was struggling with the words. For Christmas I brought him a handkerchief with a map of the shipping forecast regions on it... you can never tell where the muse is going to appear. It went on to become Blur's most popular song"

  • Brilliant song, never fails to put me in the mood.

    Graham's solo!

  • Even here in venezuela with our sunny season this song moves me!!! Great song! Thanks BLUR!

  • One of Blur's best songs

  • This song makes me proud to be British. Should be the national anthem. More heart in this than "God save the Queen".

  • this is 'allo?

  • Truly haunting.

    Magnificent.

  • Funny how a song about the weather can affect the emotions and mood so much. They're just that good...

  • I was there at glastonbury '09 when they played this...magical. End of.

  • and the radio says..................

  • one of the BIGGEST bands in music history!just awesome!no more words...

  • Simply Brilliant!, watching this sure brings back a lot of memories!, Blur have always been class!...

  • Damn, I wish bands made more music like this.

  • emotional song innit. gr8 song

  • amazing, my best song

  • WOW

  • this is so good...

  • i love this song...it´s amazing...it makes me cry too...

  • I was there. The sunset that night was beautiful. And this song made me cry.

  • it made him cry also ^^

  • when I saw this on C4 back then, I fell in love with this band for about the millionth time in 3 years..and yes bigbluecampervan, I quite envy you : )

  • I got a chill from hearing this.

    Brilliant.

  • best solo ever

  • Aww Damon! Don't cry...This song is so beyond amazing!

  • I love the guitar solo in this one!

  • bellissima performance

  • That was pretty haunting

  • amazing

  • The ultimate Britpop anthem.

This is a low, refers to his depression - and uses the shipping forecast he was listening to on the radioat the time, to show his feelings.

It is a tear by the way. A very famous tear

  • Is it a trick of the light or is that a tear on Damon's cheek at 4:56?

  • It's a tear

  • @musicalsimsy cjmooney's right, it is a tear. Given just how massive they became the year this video was shot (1994), it's not very well known that less than 2 years previously they came very close to having to pack it all in because their ex-manager seriously mismanaged their finances - the band was effectively bankrupt and the music papers considered them yesterday's news, with Suede on the rise. Blur came back from the dead twice, and both times at Glasto Damon was moved to tears.

  • @turricaned well said. Their manager had stolen their money. In order to raise some cash, blur went lots of pointless tour in US...and in the US , they all hear the radio to remind them about their country - UK

  • @omfgwtfbbqmsn He didn't steal the money exactly, he paid for things like merchandising and stage crew expenses out of the band's own account, when you're supposed to expense them to the label/promoter and let them sort it out (or were at the time). Basically the band were very naive, and didn't realise that the manager they picked was almost as green as they were...

  • Absolutely brilliant piece of music. So of it's time.

  • awesome song

  • MAGICAL, SUPERB, AMAZING perfomance of GREAT song by GENIUS band!!! It really makes me cry... I love BLUR - the LEGEND band!!!

  • Typically noisy, punchy and brilliant solo from Coxon right there.

    Yeah!!

  • priceless....love that man!

  • i think this is my favourite song by blur. it's amazing dont you think

  • still finding ways to stay solo.

  • It's "finding ways to stay solo"... roll on Glasto!!!!!

  • nah mate "so low"

  • absolutely beautiful!

  • the ultimate finale!!

Can anyone give me a track that would better end a show?

  • watching them at the MEN at the end of June... if they pull of a performance like they do here, i'm in for one hell of treat.

  • sounds great.

  • yeah, I'm agree.! Blur forever =)

  • 4:57-8.. a tear? =O

  • right, isn't it sweet? Damon Albarn forever!

  • I was always more in the Oasis camp but having listened a lot to Blur recently, there is class everywhere, this, & Tender are the masterpieces, but they're very diverse.

  • You should hear The Universal as well. Another one of their best.

  • BRILLIANT, one of the best blur songs for sure,

  • Comment removed

  • i no wat u mean!

  • he's always reminded me of tim roth

  • haha, I can see where you're coming from. Roth has skinnier facial features though.

  • this just makes me more excited for Hyde Park

  • and Glastonbury! Summer 2009 will be massive.

  • exactly.see you there..I still cannot quite believe it's happening.

  • I'm happy to find this vid posted. I saw them live in '94 and this song was absolutely mesmerizing, especially the guitar break in the middle.

  • Damon looks so damn cute at the end!

  • coxon rocks!

  • Damons voice was a little higher back then

  • is that the other stage? I take it they were headlining it?

  • theyreeeeeee back!!!!!

  • favorite live song coxon amasing

  • It was 98, saw the warm up show at Bath pavillion on the thursday too

  • Its 94 mate - says so in he beginning title. I was there you if you require anymore proof.

  • wow.. its really awsome,, this is one of my favorite blur's song and they play it very greattttt...

    oh i miss BLUR..

  • was this summer 1994? i cant decide whether this or the version from the royal albert hall at xmas was the best. its on the dvd showtime with blur, its the greatest gig ever. blur were so good live.

  • I was there and it was absolutely electric. They should headline Glasto 2009

  • I was at this gig. the best ever. i will tell my grandkids about it!

  • It was the best end to a night ever. I was chilling out at the other end of the field and this song gave me goosebumps. Blur fan ever since

  • what wouldn't i have given to go to a blur concert? Why wasn't i born before?!! i guess i wouldn't have been able to go then either, but... blur is amazing and this song is almost perfect

  • A truly touching song, and THE defining anthem of the 90's if you ask me. And here it's even more haunting with the organ placed a bit higher into the mix.

  • blur with coxon live unbeatable

  • Classic

  • absolutely beautiful!

  • G.Coxon XXX!

  • love it...i don't know what else to say...

  • great stuff

  • this is AWESOME

  • Simply stunning

  • what a song

  • Not just a great song but I would say one of the great classic British anthems - it should be played at the proms one day - Oasis simply never held a candle to Blur - when will the delided British public wake up....

  • @petercouz Oh, my thoughts exactly. Well said !

  • @petercouz Blur were streets ahead of Oasis. I could never understand the comparisons and all the bullshit that played them off against each other. It's like comparing the Smiths with the fucking Verve.

  • Fuck yeah!

  • LEGEND

  • 2nd best Blur song ever....pipped by "shes so high"! x

  • I like when Damon Albarn plays keyboard

  • I adore this song, what a wonderful song!

    Thanks so much BLUR!

  • This is one of my favourite live performances ever! But... is that a tear at the end, or is he just sweatin'? I prefer to think he's shedding a tear, the wee soul.

  • super!
