DiRT is a piece of horseshit compared to the CMR series and this is why:

1. Ken Cock is the "main guy" in the game.

2. Its not Colin Mcrae DiRT 3 now. Its just DiRT 3.

3. Its not fking rally anymore!!!

4. There is no real rally drivers in the game.

I had great fun playing Sega Rally 2 in the arcade once, spent a million bucks playing the game, actually completing it a few times. Now I want a game which has the same gameplay, not necessarily better graphics and G25 support on the PS3. I would certainly buy that. Or just re-release Sega Rally 1 or 2.

Reinventing the classic series as DiRT was a bad step, IMHO. DiRT is overall arcadeish compared to past CMR games. While I like the greater variety of vehicles and races, it's simply not proper rallying anymore. As far as the original Colin McRae Rally series goes, 2 and 4 were my favourite installments. The first was promising, but mediocre, the third looked good, but was meh... And the fifth ("2005") felt like a copy of the fourth...

@Inecom: play xbox games on xbox, not on 360. you got a possibility to record YPbPr i guess (what's it? i really want to get this recording capability, too), so as the xbox 1 got this too you can record it on the original console. every other review you do is on original machine (atari 2600/5200/7800, nes, snes, genesis etc.) but this not... that SUCKS!

mcrae 05 was my favorite because of the graphical revamp but all the mcrae games were really great. Much more realistic physics than the dirt series, not to mention pure time trials.

I have 03, this(04), and 2005 for the xbox. The 2005 version I found far better than this, better more realistic physics, more cars and features. I like to turn off the arrows and just rely on the driver notes, which makes it way more fun and a real challenge. I have 2005 for the PSP too, but it's not that great.

Dirt 2 is the CoD of the rally world. In other words, very accesible for those casual gamers and designed for the mainstream. Although still a fun game.

you are right, in fact Rally isn't much of a Hit in USA, however in Europe my friend its like a Huge fenomenon! I fear that American people, see Rally as a off-road competition, but its completely wrong, rally can and it is related to in/out city stages. Games like Dirt2 will make kids think that Baja is rally... the only rally in Dirt 2 is the Croatian stage, and nothing else! :)
