I might not be the best person to give you advice on how to get better. To me, on a scale of 1 to 10, I am just about 1.5 going to 2, if u know what I mean.

I listen to a lot of music, all kinds, gospel, classical, jazz, flamenco (rumba).

I think listening to different kinds of music broadens your scope and your playing doesn't get stagnant. One thing that you can do while listening to music is to just play along, probably just the melody, like what the person is singing. Then you can improvise but within the chords or melody. You can even try to play harmony too by playing what a tenor or alto would sing. Just try different things.
