I think it makes quite a big difference if the mother's being kept in a zoo or in captivity for most of her life. A life like that would make any mother want to have an abortion. And now this cub will be raised by humans and feel the same futility and despair I'm sure she already felt. She was trying to do the cub a favor. She was trying to be a good mother.
