Wow, you are very handsome. Sorry, I know the point of the video is the Navajo. But wow! On another note, it is FASCINATING to hear someone speak a language that seems as old as time. I'm 1/4 Akimel O'odham, and I'd give anything to have my grandmother back so she could teach me the tongue.
Here's some Navajo words that are not commonly heard. Hope this helps =) 0:51Lengthwise - Neek'íízhgo. 1:17 Macintosh Apple - (Aká'át'iil - Referring to the Apple) (Naat'áániiye'í - Referring to the last name). 1:48 Screen - Kit'ííl. 2:01 Monitor - Ha'síínilkiidí. 2:28 Speakers - Hałts'a'í. 2:34 Headphone Jack - Ajeenéé' BiHonóní. 3:30 Slot - A'ą́ą́t'óól. 3:35 Downloading - Yaaljíí'.
i-POD in Diné is "HITS'EZH" (HI > Hiiłos = Internet + TS'EZH > Ats'éézh = Legume Pod). Classic is "Wódáanii" (Wódáanii > Wódahnii = Those or that of the upper/initial group [This used to refer to the original four Navajo clans, but now used liberally])
I am utterly thrilled to find a video of 1) a Navajo speaker 2) who is young 3) and talking about a contemporary subject. You are a credit to your people.
This is so awesome! How neat that you can use a language that was never oringially intended for this kind of technology to describe it so well! And I bet this video is useful for helping older people understand the iPod!;-)
I knew about the Navajo code-talkers in WWII,but this just has me even more impressed with the fluidity of the language!I'm showing this to my roommate who loves languages...if she suddenly decides to learn Navajo,it's to your credit!;-)
@KRSONMar I'm a little confused, what do you mean by saying daybreakwarrior is describing his ipod in a language that was "never ORIGINALLY intended for this kind of technology"? ???
@cExingtoNoU I think he might mean they probably don't have words for many modern and technological things in their language. I'm sure they can still find some way of describing those things though.
@Smartguy1992 I guess that's just the way we're taught to think, think about it, as if English was always meant to be this techno-language, theye didn't have i-pods during the battle of Hastings yo! Just keeping aboriginals in the past like always... :(
Great video! The captions with translations are an excellent addition. I'm not a Navajo speaker, but you're inspiring me to work harder on learning Tsalagi. :)
imagine someone doing this in english lol it would seem elementary if thats you're first language but very complicated if it was not. Thats how i feel : ( complicated.
That song is funny at the begining. I don't like the Ipad though because i think it's overrated and just a Netbook with no keyboard. That's pretty cool in Navajo language though.
@daybreakwarrior Ok I wanted to use this vid on my Wix profile, but the video player changes and doesn't have the bubble text. Anyway to out the text onto the video itself rather than using youtubes bubble words?
What a pretty language :D

Hey also are there any modern books written in Dine? Either translations or new books, of either fiction or non-fiction?
