Can you tell me the road you were on when the video starts, I'm familiar with the Peotone/Monee/Frankfort area and have tried to trace your exact path a few times?? I live about 10 miles to the northeast of that area and was waiting at home for the storm to arrive, but missed me to the south and east. It was exciting, they said it was big and about 20 minutes away!! Great video, thanks!!
@gigan1234 no its not. only 1 ef tornado hit the chicago area and it was in plainfield, illinois in 1995. and plus it doesnt have to be a wedge for it to be an f/ef 5 tornado.
I was at my friends house when it hit. The sky was green, and the sirens were going off. So I knew by the green sky a tornado had touched down. Great sights, though.
I gotta say, at 6:04 to 6:14 you remind me of Elwood of the Blue's Brothers. "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, >> large tornado ahead of us, << it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses. "
@himcky999 lol so true half the time people dont even know about a tornado until after
sadly a lot of times the NWS does see the tornado due to lack of spotters so if they don't get any calls from the spotters saying TORNADO! TORNADO! they don't know the storm has put down a tornado so they will not put out a tornado warning some times if the storm looks real bad on radar they will warn it just to be safe but not all the time.
@train2589 more like "do not try this on your own." you won't have the luxury of catching a tornado on camera once it's bearing down on your home. drop everything and run for cover.
@ImOfNope Yeah I thought that too. Then again, in the Chicago area you can drive not too far outside of the city limits in some places and be pretty much in the country. Of course, that used to be easier to do than it is now.
Being a police officer, or firefighting, are dangerous jobs too, should they stop?
Preventing unnecessary loss of lives is very serious business, and nether police officers, firefighters, or those storm chasers that work for the National Severe Storms Laboratory, deserve scorn.
@XXTHE12THMANXX Major oops, my mind ran ahead of my fingers' -- It should have read "DON'T deserve scorn" -- It was in continuation to my other two posts, and was aimed at goodlife404 and mypalrocco I should of taken more time checking my post. -- I apologize to you and the good people at the National Severe Storms Laboratory
@mypalrocco These "wannabe's" just so happen to work with the NSSL (National Severe Storms Laboratory) in Kansas. They are part of a multi-team crew that track storms and tornadoes. You should watch some of the other videos on their channel, no "wannabe" can afford mobile Doppler radar trucks, yet these people have them.
i saw that thing i lived about 6 or 7 miles away and i could see it and it was huge from where i was it didnt hit us but it was going the other way thank god
I lived in Peotone when this happened. However, I was in Bourbonnais at the time so I didn't get to see it. It was a crazy day though. A few tornadoes hit by my husbands work in Monee.
Those tornado chasers are keeping a lot of people keep safe. They know what's going on before the National Weather Service, and can report tornadoes to them.
Was all these from the same supercell?I noticed multiple vorticies in the first one.The rest were violent wedge tornadoes by which do you know the EF. rating on them?

I see... lucky you. I hope to move to a place with severe weather in the future... but for at least the next two years, I'm staying in Dubai till I finish school.
This was the storm that went from South Wilmington to Richton Park and beyond. I remember I was in Bourbonnais when it started. It went past my parent's house in Wilmington, then my old house in Peotone, then my husbands work in Monee, then my uncles in park forest. It was CRAZY! It still shocks me to know that this huge monster of a tornado went right past where I lived and I didn't even get to see it!!
At about 1:30, you can see a P-10 or P-15 siren. It's a very nice looking one. Has anyone noticed? And WHY it wasn't going off, I will never know. There was a tornado right above it. If I was there, I would have later called the EMA director and asked them, "what were they thinking?" Great movie though.
Yeah, that question, this video and that siren have been brought up together on The Siren Board many times. We or I belive the power lines went down thus shutting down power to the siren.
It was wild seeing entire farms obliterated only a half mile from my house.........one barn that got leveled had a 6000lb forklift pulled out and thrown close to 200 yards away.......that tornado was seriously "the real deal"
At the time, it was reported that Richton Park was hit hard by the tornado, but it wasn't because of the damage....it was because Richton Park was the area with the highest population that the tornado got to before it died down. Green Garden Township actually had the most extensive damage.
A VERY scary afternoon indeed. It passed within a mile of us...still WAY too close for comfort. I'm moving to Tucson AZ next month partly due to my fear of these monsters of nature.

i was at the nhra drag races in Joliet at the time and went into the grandstands and we saw it!!! very wicked. i have video of a twister in Midlothian IL but the sound is jacked up. i wish i knew how to post it!!!
Just upload the video to your computer using the USB cable, then on your YouTube account, go to 'My videos' then it will say you havn't got any, then click 'Start uploading' or w/e it says.
I live in Ontario Canada and unfortunetly they only tornado action we get r the very rare tornado warnings but no one takes them serisly here cause they just end up being thunderstorms I would love to see one tho!
i wish i had tornados in novascotia we barely have lightning!!! Watch my videos when i upload them i made one about shark spotting at kennington cove!
yeah, seeing one and being caught in one is quite different. I would think you probably should just hope on a plane and visit a place that has them, but I don't think you want them to be where you reside. Am I right? :-)
You dont want to see tornados trust i have been in a ef 1 and those are still scary they still kill but ya they are amazing to watch but there monsters i live in Colorado and we only get tornados like once a summer but this summer we had 5 in one day
It was an EF2, it looks massive and has crazy motion but that's what the rating ended up being

Some tornado chasers are wannabes, some aren't.
Some are thrill-seekers, others aren't.
The people at TornadoVideosdotnet are nether of these things.
They are in it for the science, to get warnings out sooner, and ever sooner.
For people like you, or me, or the people down the block.
Look at Yazoo City, or Greenburg, they were almost completely destroyed.
But the loss of lives were low, because people like these tracked the tornadoes.

Just upload the video to your computer using the USB cable, then on your YouTube account, go to 'My videos' then it will say you havn't got any, then click 'Start uploading' or w/e it says.

yeah, seeing one and being caught in one is quite different. I would think you probably should just hope on a plane and visit a place that has them, but I don't think you want them to be where you reside. Am I right? :-)
