hi natalia! i love your work and your retouching technique! i have one question though: i love that trick with high pass, where you pick up a portion of texture from one cheek and move it to another... though i can't figure out what do you do with history brush after? thanks!
@xcakemix666x right but even magazines don't really want to be paying for ocd'ing type restorers. They have people in their employee to do it. But her work is great and even she says she is a control freak. I quote from her DVD, "I’m a neurotic, detail maniac, control freak" So if that is you then the DVD is for you.
@xcakemix666x You may be right. No doubt she does a good job like a artist doing pointillism taking days or months to complete his work. Then there is Bob Ross who takes a half hour to paint a picture. They both make money and they're both art. There just isn't one way to do things. What she spends hours doing can be done in minutes with a plug in. No big deal. Some people sit on a couch while others have their couches covered in plastic all the time. Enjoy yourself . You have a great laugh :)
@TarquinChurchwell Lol it's like you didn't even read the other posts. The only ones who use plugins are:
A. Those who can't afford to pay for high end retouching like Natalia
B. Those whose objectives in portrait photography are not commercial beauty (i.e. editorial quality)
C. Amateurs
D. Those who don't know any better
You will not see a single L'Oreal, Elle magazine, Gucci, Vogue, Burberry, etc. ad or editorial that does not have this type of "OCD" retouching applied. Beauty plugins =trash
@Goatseeee Funny that when I was dating Christa Worthington, former fashion editor of Cosmopolitan magazine and fashion advisor for Elle and Madamoselle and as I sat in shoots with many famed photographers and retouchers for the magazines you mention I can honestly say your wrong but do know that those mags you speak will take plug in images just as fast as and OCD retouchers. In fact Prada retouchers are now using Lucis Art, Enjoy your week friend
@Goatseeee There are a lot of pages in those magazine. A bit of something for everyone. I also don't hear that Portraiture is desperate for business but at this point it seems you just want to argue so I am bored of ya now. Enjoy what you do as much as I with what I do
This is really good but seriously way too much OCD'ing. I have seen images in the best magazines and none of them seem to be worried about how many pores are on a face and even Maxim recent cover proves that you do need to be extreme anymore. Use a quick plug in like Portrature and the heal brush and you will be on the level of most great retouchers. They use it too but they just won't admit it. Trust me even Julia Child and Wolfgang Puck goes to KFC once in a while.
You must be crazy and your advice is horrible. Real retouches do NOT use plug ins, unless they made them specifically for themselves. This woman has an award winning retouching DVD and probably has retouched some of those MAXIM covers you speak of, so please do not advise her. Also, glamour(MAXIM) retouching is different from beauty retouching, so of course they are not worried about pores on a full body image on a 8x11 page.
@OrgasmikGraphicz Really? So Larry Becker, the Executive of NAPP (Photoshop) is wrong for telling people he uses a plug it to retouch portraits and he is wrong for putting out a casting call for models claiming he is putting them in a magazine. The Suits at Photoshop should be listing to you instead right? Look if you wanna OCD on every pimple and take days to retouch a face then have a great time. The rest of us have deadlines. Enjoy what you do and by your name is sounds like you do. Love it!
the movie is so blurry itself, I can't always tell what she's doing. When she goes to the pull down menues, its tough to read what she is selecting, even when I stop the movie.
Glad to hear it too! Keep up the good work. I would love to post my own vids, but I am big-time lazy. I just spend my whole time criticising other people for using PC's. Well somebody's got to do it! :)
@NataliaTaffarel I see that you've become much more skilled since this vid. It's nice though but I think you do much better work nowadays! Or am I right... what's your thaughts on that? Kind regards, a fan.

Por favor, Natalia!!! Un poco de conmiseración para los compatriotas del tercer mundo para los cuales, acceder a una mac para retocar fotos (salvo que vivamos de eso) resulta impracticable!!!
If thats your first retouch than not a bad job. I'm joking, that was amazing, thanks for sharing with the world. Also I like your unique style that becomes apparent at the end with the shadows etc. Dont be giving away your technique for nothing to lazy people or free loaders. Being told techniques and learning are two different things, those that want to learn will watch your video over and over again, pausing and slowing it down. Others will just expect to be given it on a plate.
Also, people should recognize that was well-lit and most likely taken with a quality camera and lens -- their results will probably be a lot different than yours!
Nice job. It just confirms my suspicion though, to get top notch professional results takes a lot of work, talent and knowledge, there are no shortcuts.
Oh fantastic. I love your images (as in the retouched ones). I'm a photographer (well on good way) but I think I want to head for the retouching world. Videos like this just inspire! :-) But how come the end result in this video wasn't used for Charlotte Kibbles' website?
waaa you explained it...haha...i watched the scene over and over aain to match with my PS . and hell yes - i'm pretty good at retouching but the trick with the inversed HP is really some awesome trick :)

what do you do at 3:22? the gray spot you move under her eye. What is that?
yellabell1 2 years ago
@yellabell1 I think she is moving a piece of cheek texture under her eye, because when she painted with a brush, that painted bit lost texture.

Awesome..
I'm using the soft-light layer in stead of those 2 curves. Is their any reason you prefer the last (it's not as fast as the soft-light method).
The shaping is done really well! Congrats.

High pass is done in high radious with 1/3% glaussian blur and then inverted to be blended in linear light and masked.
